Training for Copehagen Marathon in May. Ambition is to beat my PB by being structured in preparation… meaning actually prepare properly this time 😂 I will add some strength training to my preparation after seeing this video.
Currently training for my first marathon as well, at 40! It's in Celebration,FL end of January .Beautiful little town, looking forward to it! Just completed my 3rd half marathon a couple weeks ago, and am ready to get into marathon training full swing!
Running must be a midlife crisis thing😂, I have my first ½ marathon in 23 years next month at Alton Towers before my first Marathon in May next year at Newcastle & Gateshead. Good Luck Andy
What app are you using to train for the marathon? I just did my first half marathon and I noticed that I need to strengthen my core and do strength training. Thank you for making these videos.
For anyone who sits on the sofa and says "I could run a marathon", yes, yes you can, but you shouldn't underestimate it, here is an Olympic runner who is nervous about it, let that sink in
Yeah the marathon itself is just the tip of the iceberg. The training for it is a proper part time job for 3-5 months if you want to do yourself any kind of justice and not die during it.
It's pretty crazy. I was able to run a 4:54 mile in highschool, fast forward 17 years im 90 pounds heavier and haven't ran since then and I have all the confidence in the world lol! Ran a half marathon with 3 months training, still fat now training for a full
@@clarity2115 Yes, I'm in a similar boat. 5 min mile in hs, started running again 25 years later and 3:28:46 marathon 6 months back to running. Hoping to break 3 by May 2024 🤞🏻.
@@Tritiuminducedfusion That's awesome! Did you include speed workouts right away when you picked it up? I've just been picking up lots of slow/long miles but haven't worked on speed yet, maybe once I get down to around 210 I'll feel more comfortable, currently sitting at 235
A marathon is an experience. I ran my 1st at 40. (Started running at 38). It’s mostly mental, you got this!!! 🥳🥳 Currently training for my spring Marathon. It will be my 27th one!
This is particularly inspiring as a current 40 year old who started running at 38, did my first half marathons this year at 39 and am contemplating stepping up to marathon distance in the next 18 months. Thanks!
I ran my first Marathon at 60, had only been running for 3 years and the only thing I wanted was to run it under 5hrs which I know is a slow time but I managed to do it in 4:42:41 which I was so happy with
You got this Andy! I ran my first marathon at 63 years old, and my second one a week ago at 64, along with a few 5K, 10K, and half marathons. Still working towards a BQ but getting closer. Only been running for less than 2 years. The Running Channel has been very inspirational, and educational! 🏃🏻♂️
My advice for drinking: take a soft flask, stop at aid stations and fill it, then just cruise along stressfree! You may even be able to skip some aid stations altogether because you haven't finished your soft flask yet. I have never really mastered the art of drinking out of cups while running. So, at first I decided to run longer races with a hydration vest, but I could actually not carry enough fluids (I am a very profuse sweater). But in my last half (as practice) and full marathons (goal race) I have started to just stop at aid stations and fill a soft flask with sports drink, from the cups on the table, or even with pitchers that the aid station volunteers directed me to. Okay, I lost some time standing still (a total of a minute and a half according to Garmin during the entire 3h38' marathon; at 6 aid stations for about 2,5 litres op sports drink) but it was so relaxed and could each time easily catch up with my pack. So worth it!
I entered the lottery for my dream race, Berlin marathon 2024. It’ll be my first marathon at 43 and I’ve dreamed about it for a long time. Good luck to Andy and everyone else!
I started running at 52 for health reasons. Ran my 1st full M the following year at age 53. Since then I've qualified for and have run five Bostons. I recently ran a BQ for both 2024 & 2025. I'm 61 yo now, and getting younger.
0:47 you're aiming for not just sub-3 but 2:45-2:52 on your 1st marathon! I believe you can do it! 😊 I'm 33, running my 1st marathon in 24 days, and I'm aiming for sub-6h 😅
Just ran my first ever half marathon at age 59. Been running since March of this year. My dream goal is to run the Frankfurt Germany marathon as my mother is from Frankfurt.
I've always thought Andy made all the running look effortless. It's really reassuring to hear he has struggles with training, life and injury too. Currently following a running plan for the first time ever, training up for my first 10k race.
I am late 50s and just started training for my first marathon which is London next year. My Garmin kindly reminds me how many weeks away it is. Not panicking yet, but I'm sure I will. My goal is to finish and enjoy the experience! There are plenty of other opportunities for PBs, but running London could be a once in a lifetime - for me at least. Good luck Andy. You've got this.👍
You will love London! I ran it in 2021 aged 51. It was and remains my first. The experience was incredible. The running and certainly the time was of secondary importance to me . Good luck!
I’m so excited to see how you do in the marathon Andy. You are an incredible runner! I ran my first marathon in my early 40’s and have now run my fastest to date age 52. Be prepared to get hooked!
Thank you for including all the prehab and base building work you did. For most of us a 16-week marathon plan is the END, not the start of training! I've been working for nearly a year for 50k race with base building, gym workouts, resting, hill repeats, and long, long days on the trails. Good luck in Valencia, Andy!
I was 45 when I ran my first marathon. Training plans are brutal but worth it! I remember being told by a seasoned marathoner that it’s two races: the first 20 miles and the final 6… what kept me going was keep smiling and try and enjoy it and keep a positive mindset (it’s a long way to be miserable!) Good luck Andy!
I’m training for my first 5k in two weeks. I’m super slow and it can sometimes be disheartening to see how quick others are. I keep reminding myself that putting the slow work in now might help me in the long run!
Everyone starts somewhere and there's always gonna be someone faster than you. What I enjoy about running is that your only opponent is yourself and you have all the means to improve and beat yourself again and again!
I'm with you Andy. Ran my first marathon this year at 49 and next year I'm going for a 50 at 50. Us more mature runners have still got the legs even if it's a little daunting All the very best
I'm currently training for my first half marathon, and then, eventually, a full one. I'll be 51 when I hit the start line for the half. I really appreciate all of you at The Running Channel for making these great videos!! Good luck, Andy! I know you're going to crush it!!
At the moment I am in a bit of a maintenance phase, but in 2 weeks I will start training for a half marathon! Super excited and can't wait to see how I go, but am quite nervous!! I am thinking about giving runna a go cause it seems like a brilliant app and worth the money, but we'll see! Thanks for the great videos I am always looking forward to them and learn so much ❤
Good luck Andy! I'm currently training for my second ever half marathon. I finished my first in 2:00:08, so the goal is sub 2! I'm considering a spring marathon, but I still have to check in with myself if I am capable of that kind of commitment. Any tips are welcome!

I'm currently training for a 10k. Next goal will be the Half Marathon. Thanks for the inspirational videos!
I got into London Marathon 7 years ago and blacked out on course... Took years to get the confidence back and managed to complete it this year. I definitely would put marathon running down to more mental than physical especially when you've done the correct training - looks like it's going well Andy!
I started running less than 2 years ago and ran my first marathon last week in Amsterdam (sub 4h! Woooh!). It’s a lot of work to get there but it’s such an amazing experience from start to finish. You got this!
Good on you Andy, I'm 55 and ran my first marathon at Edinburgh this year. Great to see someone like you giving respect to the run. Since doing the marathon this year I've really struggled and hearing your own inner doubts is great motivation for me (and others I'm sure).
My first marathon at 42 was the best experience of my life. Now hopefully within a year back to running, hopefully, i can shred 29 minutes off my time for my 2nd marathon by April/May to go sub 3 hours 🤞🏻.
Excited for you Andy! I ran the Chicago marathon a couple of weeks ago and it was such an amazing experience. I'm currently doing a 10 week Garmin plan to improve my 5k time
Love this, I'm 40 (with 4 kids!) and only started running a couple of years ago. Myself and my wife are thinking about signing up for the Great North Run next year as a goal to motivate us and get some workout structure in place. Great to see someone else at this age attempting new fitness goals (albeit from a very different starting point to myself!)
I really enjoy these kind of motivational videos. It shows that given a goal nothing can stop you. This year I completed my first marathon (first race ever). In the past I would only run up to 5km and call it a day then I stopped running completely. This year I started from zero and slowly slowly added a km in my runs. Before I knew it I could run 42 km! Anyone can do it. The biggest challenge is not the 42 km but the mind. Conquer your mind and you are half way there.
I’m training for a half marathon next March, coming back from injury I’m taking it very slowly & including strength training this time 🏃♀️💪 enjoy your marathon Andy 🎉
Prehab has come to my attention a lot recently. I have been getting a twinge on my back recently. All the wise gurus on the internet like yourselves point to body conditioning or prehab to prevent injury in the first place. It turns out to be exactly what I needed. Thanks Running Channel. Good luck Andy!
This was so reassuring to see an Olympic runner concerned about the distance, as I'm training for my first half marathon and feeling the same way! I only started running consistently 3 months ago, but am also planning to do some prehab before starting a training plan for the race in April 2024
I've just started running consistently and I can only find time during the week for two runs and some strength work, so I find it very reassuring that Andy's training for a marathon with three runs a week which is much more realistic for most runners than five or even six that I often see on social media.
I can never tell how these clips are filmed chronologically and I wish I could! 6:51 ish Andy's cheese and shoulders are looking insane and I don't know if it's just the shirt or the work he's been putting in at the gym 💪. Keep up the effort, king!
Currently training for RunDisney's Dopey Challenge. It's a series of 4 races, one each day from a Thurs to Sunday. 5k, 10k, Half Marathon, then a full Marathon. It will also be my first full Marathon! Not going for any speed goals, but just getting all the mileage finished and having a fun/injury free time.
I've started running recently, say 6 months or so ago and completely hooked.. Did my first marathon a few weeks ago, but just did the 5km course part and got 5th place. Huge motivation to do better and more. Started with my wife and we both never thought we would of been doing the distances we have been doing. Im at the point of doing about 10-12km without stopping and my wife is doing 5km. She has never ran in her life so super proud of her and we a both around 40 years old. My goal is to get a better time in 5km, then eventually do a 10k race. Maybe in a year try a half marathon then year later a marathon. Even if I dont go fast or run the whole way its still a huge personal acheivement and a memory I will remember my whole life. I still havent stopped thinking of that 5km 5th place.
I’ve ridden all of life and only ever run up to 5km because I didn’t think I could go any further. Just before my 50th birthday I thought I’d try slowing down and increase my distance. To my amazement I ran 6, then 7. One day I tried 10 and made it without stopping! Never doubt yourself! I soon made it to 15 and had built up endurance. I’m now running Halfies and finally broke 2hrs in a race. My goal is to get to a full marathon. Accomplishing a goal is a wonderful thing and makes you a better person. Just believe in yourself. Thank you Running Channel, you are a big reason why I can run these distances now.
Excited to see what you can do Andy. The marathon is just a very interesting beast! 😅 I'm still chasing a sub 4 marathon despite being a sub 1.43 half marathoner. All the best!
I’m just 3 weeks away from completing a 16 week marathon training plan. Heading out the past 3 weeks running 3+ hours was completely out of the question, for this 63 year old man, when I started the plan. Physically I am ready. Now I need to sort out my nutrition and hydration plan.
You'll smash it Andy! Started getting back to running just recently. I have a 5k booked at the end of November. Aiming to make it under 32 min but anything under 34 min will make me happy (the first 5k I ever run a while ago doing C25k was just over that).
Always enjoy watching you run in my childhood park :) Andy, you've got this! Try not to worry x I am currently working towards a sub 25mins 5km. I am enjoying it!
Love how much you’re respecting the marathon as a distance!! It’s one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done and made me realise that I’m capable of anything if I set my mind to it. I’m finally finding my mojo again after completely falling out of love with running and I’d love to get back to where I was and be able to run a marathon again!! Good luck with the rest of your training Andy remember to enjoy it and your 26.2 mile victory lap at the end 😊
Great to see that you bring in the strenght workouts, we runners tend to skip them. But i did a reboot my self, after injuries, starting lifting again. Less injuries, less fatigue when i run now, still doing 3-4 strenght workouts weekly.
Started a 5k training block yesterday to try and get me back into a routine of getting out running. Been inconsistent since May so trying to be better before next year. Good luck Andy, enjoy those long runs to come
Just started my pre training for the Copenhagen Marathon in May, I actually cannot wait to get into the 16 week training block now. And of course good luck Andy, you’ve got this!
I'm 51, started running in January 2023 and currently on a half-marathon training plan. No race planned but on course to run 13 miles early next year - would be nice to make that achievement within the first year of running! Thank you for all the inspiration from the Running Channel!
I completed my first marathon a week ago and it mustn’t have traumatised me too much as I have been looking at taking on my first ultra! You’ve got this marathon Andy 💪
I’m running my first marathon on Saturday (October 28, 2023). I’ve used the Runna app for my training and it is amazing. Love it so much - I was gonna cancel the subscription after my marathon but I love the program so much I’m gonna keep it so I can properly maintain during my off time.
5 Years post Kidney Transplant, and 4 years into my running, after just running with no fixed goals, and managing a Solo Half during lockdown, I'm now focusing on 5k to compete in next years British Transplant games . Find your channel entertaining and informative, and have taken so much on board, I'm in the gym more than running these days but its having such a great effect on my running and far fewer injuries. Wish I'd started S&C earlier.
You got this Andy. I ran my first marathon at 44. I’ve run 18 marathons to date and I’m 52 today. Over time I’ve gotten faster and 2 of those are BQ times! You already have the speed - way more than most of us. Just build out the endurance. Good luck!
I’ve just signed up for my first ever marathon too at 41 and with three kids! Manchester Marathon in mid April. Currently in that initial maintenance base building phase before starting a training plan in December. Good luck in Valencia Andy!
I’ve just started getting back into regular running after a few years off and I’m aiming to work my way back up to the Gold Coast marathon next year. Even though I’ve done a few marathons in the past, and a few ultras, I’m still a bit apprehensive knowing how much time and effort needs to be put into training in order to have a good run at my goal pace. Good luck Andy, you’ve got this.
I’ve run 2 marathons and multiple half’s. This year I took off from long runs and just doing fun 5 and 10ks and falling back in love with running. You’ve got this Andy!
I'm 4 weeks out from my first half marathon. I've been using the runna app for the first time and couldn't be happier, I've never been fitter or enjoyed a training plan so much. I feel like my body just wants to go faster and for longer and that's never happened before
I just ran my first half marathon over the weekend using Runna! It made such a difference. I will definitely be using them for all of my races now. I have introduced my sister and dad to them and we will all be using Runna for our spring half marathon.
It's good to see your confidence growing, training is key! I had open heart surgery 4 years ago, aged 53, and as part of my recovery I aimed for and ran a marathon a couple of years ago. I'm currently in prehab, trying to fix my knee for an attempt at a 63.3km at the Gold Coast next July (half marathon on the Saturday, full marathon on the Sunday). Keep up the good work, you got this :)
Andy, your doing great! I don't know how you can juggle with your job, running and taking care of 3 kids at the same time! Amazing! I love all of your videos, your channel is now my favourite, I also listen to your podcast when I run. Good luck with your training and the race in December! I'm currently doing the 10k Garmin training before switching to full marathon training on Christmas day this year. The race is Manchester Marathon in April 2024 and this is going to be my first marathon race! I've done the first half marathon in May 2023 and I loved it. In a matter of days, I've signed up for the full Marathon in 2024. I can't wait to start the training but also scared of looooong long runs on the coming weekends.
I’m currently training for my first HM in 10 days - with Runna! I’m loving the app and the improvement in my fitness has been staggering. The integration of strength training is a game changer.
I really appreciate seeing Andy’s dedication to prehab and talking about getting to the start line with minimal injury, it’s something I especially resonate with. I am currently training for a faster 5k after having done my first marathon, but I think my big goal is to incorporate strength training more (from minimal to twice a week) so I don’t get injured as much during training!
I'll run my first marathon at November 12, Athens Greece. I'm also 40 years old, but I started running one year ago and I started seriously training 1st of July, a marathon training program with a coach. My Garmin race prediction is about 3:30:00 , but when I was running my last long run on Sunday (32km) , I realized about after 25th km that even my HR was fine, my legs were under a mild pain allover them and my mind was in a war with me, giving me all the time reasons to stop just for a minute etc. , but I didn't stopped. So my Goal is at first, finishing the race and second try to achieve my Garmin race prediction as close as I can. I never had any injury in my whole life, except a minor hamstrings injury a few months ago. I believe you can finish the race because you are an experienced runner and you know to hear your body during a race and adapt to every situation. Your only enemy is your mind that tells you it is a great distance etc. As you know there are people out there 60+ years old finishing marathons at amazing times, so you can do it too. I believe in you.
I was very injury prone when I first started running! Had runners knee in both knees, IT band syndrome on the right and low back pain. I went to physical therapy and still do the routines a couple times a week to this day and haven’t had an issue since! I’m about to run my 3rd marathon!!! You will do amazing Andy! All that professional training will add up for you in the marathon!
Go Andy! I'm really getting a lot out of this series, and am really rooting for you! I'm saving starting marathons for my 50s, as at 45 I'm still working through my main running goal of managing 10 official sub 40 10ks road races during my 40s (at 38 I was able to do in 45min, having done my first one in 63min some years before that). There's been some major bumps on the way ,but this summer I managed to get my 7th(with 2 seconds to spare). These personal goals are meaningless in the big scheme of things, but on the personal level can be what makes life living, while giving all sorts of unintended benefits to others, not least in your case, the chance to inspire and encourage thousands of others. Thanks for being so candid in your story so far, it's just what many of us really need! Can't wait for the next installment.good luck!
Currently training for a 10km in the first weekend of December. Aiming for my first ever sub-50 minute effort. PB'd in a half marathon a few weekends ago, and just hoping to get my body accustomed to 10k pace between now and then.
Just used Runna to complete the Melbourne marathon (my second marathon ever). It was pretty daunting looking at the peak weeks and seeing what Runna thought I was capable of. Defintely helped push me to test my current limits and suprised me with what I built towards. Great app. And motivation from the TRC team has also been great, the podcast was a staple of my sunday morning long run prep! Look forward to seeing what Andy can achieve in Valencia
I’ve just started my prehab too before my 16 week marathon plan. It does seem endless but the time flies and before you know it you’re on the starting line. I hope I feel the positive effects of prehab like you Andy. Best of Luck for Valencia
I’m also training for my first marathon that’s bound for February and I’m a bit nervous but also excited that I’m finally going to cross it off my bucket list! Good luck Andy! We all know you got this!
Just over 2 weeks off my first marathon in Athens! Been training using Runna app also which has been super helpful. Started running in feb this year after hating it my whole life and so far run a 5km, 10km, 15km and Half in race conditions. Looking forward to celebrating all this bloody training with crossing the finish line!
Best of luck Andy, you're so well prepared I think you'll really enjoy your first marathon! I'm also training for Valencia, I can't wait! Hopefully I see you and the team there.
I'm training for my first half marathon and it's so cool to see you training for your first marathon!! The furthest distance I've ever run is 7 miles so 13.1 is intimidating but I feel ready to tackle it. My friends are trying to talk me into doing a marathon next year. I don't know if I'll be ready by then but I know I want to do one eventually! Running Channel videos really hype me up for training, I love it haha
I am glad to see, how much you seem to enjoy Marathon training. I just finished my first ever marathon on sunday and even achieved to go under 3:30 which was the most optimistic scenario. I enjoyed mostly all of my training which started in may. My training plan only existed in my head, but your Channel gave me important input! The only thing I would do different the next time is including some strenght training over the whole periode. The pain in my front thigh muscles could have ended the race and is still absurdly high and I guess I could have avoided this. Good luck Andy for the next weeks and your big race and I am very interested to see how you will get along!
Running my second ever marathon no in December.. going for a sub 3:30:00, building up to my first altra next year April.. going strong and goal is looking like it'll be done 👟 Love the work from you guys, inspiring every day!
I love the way you're approaching the training and showing it to us in this video. I find this channel interesting as it brings content for various types of runners but the fact that Andy is an ex pro doesn't make the content of this video unattainable or a bit dislocated from people's reality (as some sports channels do), on the contrary, apart from his performance that is amazing due to his pro athlete background the whole training routine is pretty normal and what one would expect of a training plan for a marathon. That's what I'd expect from any of the channel's presenters/runners. Good job and keep up with the good work!
Sounds like you got this.I'm always smiling when the marathon comes up on the podcast. I myself am on the start of my training plan for a half marathon with around 860m elevation .It's a special event in my city. Running laps trough a shopping center and the spiral driveway of the parking garage. It's in the middle of January. Hoping to finish the race with a smile ;) .
I got the running bug beginning of 2023 and have ran 4 half marathons so far, I am planning on doing a full marathon next year and I am finding the everyone from the channel very inspiring! Looking forward to seeing how you progress and good luck for December Andy!
Hey all, I started running this year after my aeromedical examiners requested I lose weight (108kg). Couch to 5k certainly got me started and I cannot thank that platform enough for what it's given me in opening the door to running. Now an avid user of the Runna app, building up to 10k for the London Winter Run on 25th February 2024 alongside 23 others from the running club I've now joined and standing at 98kg currently. It's great to see that no matter your level, struggles are out there to be overcome and the limit is only in your head. Thanks for all the great content, wishing you every success in the marathon to come Andy!
Sooo happy for you Andy!!! I'm looking forward to watching the video of your marathon day and watch you do absolutely amazing. I love watching you all and it truly helps to get my training moving along and definitely always is great motivation. I'm currently working towards a Half Marathon and would like to better my time from my previous Half Marathon time. I hit a personal best in my 10k a couple weeks ago from my previous (and first 10K a year ago). I started January 2022 at the age of 41 and have completely fallen in love with the sport. Its my me-time and I enjoy my music, podcast (of course the Running Channel podcast is on during runs) and just seeing the progress each run. I had an accident in May of 2022 and suffered a mild brain injury. Had to take 2 months off of running and cried when I was able to reach new goals. Every long run that surpassed the last was filled with tears of joy and gratitude for what my body could do and of course my brain. I'm thankfully all recovered, only I can't smell since that was a side effect of the brain injury. All this to say that, once you put your mind and heart and soul into something, it can be accomplished. It's also a great model for my kids to see that "you can do hard things." Looking forward to your video. Cheering you on from Miami, Florida-USA!!! You got this Andy!!
You can do this Andy. I have been running for over 20 years but always thought running a marathon is only for elites. A friend pushed me a few years ago and since then I have enjoyed the journey of marathon training. The race day does not matter but the 18-20 weeks training is what I enjoy the most especially the Saturday long runs. It also helps running with a group. At 50, I just ran the first world major, the 46th Chicago marathon. I am planning for at least 2 for 2024.
I feel your pain with fitting running in around full time work and children. Still aiming to PB all my major distances in a 12 month period. Using Runna now, 8 weeks in and just PB'd my 10km 2 weeks ahead of schedule! Next onto the 5km and then full on training for my first Backyard Ultra in May!!! Good luck Andy! 2:42:00 is coming!!!
I ran the Berlin Marathon a couple of weeks ago - my second one. I was a bit worried that I would loose all of my running motivation after that race, but I didn’t. I came across Sarah’s video where she follows the Garmin suggested workouts for 30 days, and it inspired me to get a Garmin watch myself and follow (most of) the suggested workouts. Now I am very motivated, and run five times per week. Next goal: Copenhagen Marathon in May 2024 on my home turf 😊 Thank you for your allways inspiring videos, and god luck with your marathon training, Andy! 😊
Great watching you take this on Andy, now you are retired its nice to see you going through all the things us mere mortals go through. I'm 55 and managed a pb at London marathon this year having followed trc's plan, in the last two weeks I smashed my half marathon and 5k pb as well. now targeting another marathon pb. Thanks for your help !
Great to watch this video ❤ I’ll turn 42 next year and I have started training for my very first 42.2K. Felt reassured that I am not the only one feeling stressed about running a marathon. Thanks Andy and Good luck!
New to running and just finished couch to 5k. I'm 36 as fit as i've ever been as an adult and loving it. Watching The Running Channel videos is fantastic inspiration to think that, with enough time and motivation, I could eventually be working up to a marathon too! Go Andy!
Did my first half marathon last week (been running a year now). Booked up another half in March, 10k in April and Milton Keynes Marathon in May. Really looking forward to the big one - daunted by the training - so this has come at the perfect time!
heard about your attempt on the podcast, and came here to see more! Can't wait to see how you get on Andy, thanks for taking us along with you. You may not have run a marathon before but I love seeing a pro athlete's approach.
So excited to see this evolve! Wish you all the best for the last bit of training, taper and then the actual marathon!! I'm also turning 40 and have a marathon on my bucketlist. But in contrary to you, I had to start at absolute zero, and I am veeery slow! Did a quarter marathon (10.55k) a couple of weeks ago and have signed up for 15k in december. Hopefully I can continue upping my mileage and complete a local half marathon in april and then the big 42.2 next October! I am daunted, scared, overwhelmed (I mean, seeing an actual Olympian being nervous makes me doubt myself and my abilities a bit) but also very excited! These videos (Andy's marathon journey, Rick's awesome Rickovery, Tom's Chicago marathon, etc.) highly motivate me to go out and run, ánd work on my S&C! Thank you for this!!
Been absolutely loving the podcast coverage on your marathon training so great to see a video. Side note: Great work on the re-brand, the whole team should be proud of the quality of the content recently. Really stepped up to a whole new level. Thanks guys and gals!!👏

Training for Copehagen Marathon in May. Ambition is to beat my PB by being structured in preparation… meaning actually prepare properly this time 😂 I will add some strength training to my preparation after seeing this video.
I'm also training for my first marathon in my city early next year 💜
Currently training for my first marathon as well, at 40!
For anyone who sits on the sofa and says "I could run a marathon", yes, yes you can, but you shouldn't underestimate it, here is an Olympic runner who is nervous about it, let that sink in
No, they cannot. There's a reason less than 1% of the world's population has run one.
Thanks!
This is inspiring as I just started running this year at 38 and planning my first marathon next spring
I’m turning 47 in a few months, so there’s hope for us all. I’ve slowed down but still absolutely love running the marathon.
@@Ruateddybear2 hey . I ran my first aged 51. You are a spring chicken 🐔 by comparison 😊 you've got this
You've got this! I ran my first marathon at 54. I qualified for Boston and am running it in 2024 at age 56!
INCREDIBLE! 🎉
@@rutherke41 Thank you!!! ☺
My ambition is to earn a BQ. My PB is about 10 mins too slow. So congrats on yours 👍
I'm still 4 minutes off a BQ after my 8th marathon. But love the journey, still learning and pushing for it.
@@jamesdrury6627BQs are brutal pace, enjoy Boston next year!
I ran my first Marathon at 60, had only been running for 3 years and the only thing I wanted was to run it under 5hrs which I know is a slow time but I managed to do it in 4:42:41 which I was so happy with
Congrats
Way to go! Congratulations!
That's amazing! Its such a great feeling to hit that goal! Congratulations!!
Congrats!
I can see you going sub 3 with ease, Andy 👍
Let's see! 👀👀
of course.
His target is 2:45-2:52, I saw it in the beginning 😂
timestamp? :D@@thekizzaa

You're an inspiration.
@@abqp7158 Thank you :-)
0:47 you're aiming for not just sub-3 but 2:45-2:52 on your 1st marathon! I believe you can do it! 😊 I'm 33, running my 1st marathon in 24 days, and I'm aiming for sub-6h 😅
Can’t believe you caught that! 😂Yes! I figured that range would be totally possible for a former Olympian!
Just ran my first ever half marathon at age 59. Been running since March of this year. My dream goal is to run the Frankfurt Germany marathon as my mother is from Frankfurt.
Best of luck on your journey
Congrats. Best of luck for your marathon!
I've always thought Andy made all the running look effortless. It's really reassuring to hear he has struggles with training, life and injury too. Currently following a running plan for the first time ever, training up for my first 10k race.
Good luck! Try and enjoy it 😊
All the best for your training and race! 👍
You've got this.👍
London is AWESOME. Put your name on your shirt, the crowds will boost you so much.
I am preparing myself for next year Berlin. First time running after 10 years on inline skates. And I am also late 50s. Good luck to you Tony.
7:00 "I don't know what's happened to me!" 🤣
It's ok Andy, we've all been there. Take a deep breath and enjoy the new you. 😁
I’m training for my first 5k in two weeks. I’m super slow and it can sometimes be disheartening to see how quick others are. I keep reminding myself that putting the slow work in now might help me in the long run!
Kudos! Don’t see the others. Slow is fast for someone.
comparison is the thief of joy
You've got this, just stay consistent and enjoy the grind !
@@Thib262came here to say exactly that. Everyone is on their own journey - focus on you and your achievements! You can do it!
Well done for getting out there. Don't worry about times (especially other people's), enjoy yourself and be proud of your achievement. 👍
Us more mature runners have still got the legs even if it's a little daunting
All the very best
I just finished my first marathon and am now looking to improve my 5K- and 10K-time. Good luck with your prep, Andy! Looking good and fast so far!
Amazing work well done!!
Amsterdam was my first as well, really enjoyed it
Good on you Andy, I'm 55 and ran my first marathon at Edinburgh this year. Great to see someone like you giving respect to the run. Since doing the marathon this year I've really struggled and hearing your own inner doubts is great motivation for me (and others I'm sure).
Building consistency, staying injury free and improving form- hopefully be in a good place to be marathon ready next year
My first marathon at 42 was the best experience of my life. Now hopefully within a year back to running, hopefully, i can shred 29 minutes off my time for my 2nd marathon by April/May to go sub 3 hours 🤞🏻.
Good luck Andy! Im enjoying training for 10ks at present having stepped up from 5k this year.
Amazing Gabby!! Which half marathon are you taking on?
Wow! Good luck 🏃🏰
I am astounded how much more difficult the full marathon is compared to half. Good luck Andy.
I'm currently training for a marathon too. I've signed up for one in April and hope that I can finish it 💪
Good luck! Which one are you running?
Thank you, I'm running the Zurich Marathon in Switzerland
Always enjoy watching you run in my childhood park :)
Andy, you've got this! Try not to worry x
I am currently working towards a sub 25mins 5km.
Love watching Andys content, especially going from a world class athlete to an every day runner is very interesting to see.
You will absolutely smash the marathon Andy! I’m training for a sub 45 10km and sub 1:45 half in the spring of 2024.
Andy you are a legend and an inspiration to the running community
Running my second ever marathon no in December.. going for a sub 3:30:00, building up to my first altra next year April.. going strong and goal is looking like it'll be done 👟
Love the work from you guys, inspiring every day!
I am training for my third 5k. After this one, I am bumping it up to 10k. I couldn’t have done without this channel. You guys keep me motivated.
It's also a great model for my kids to see that
"you can do hard things." Looking forward to your video.
The best feature of the Runna app is that the plans include suggested speed for treadmills and pace for outdoor runs. Great feature.
Go Andy!
Go Andy! Been a fan for a long, long time. Thanks for everything you’ve done to help us!!!
Good luck Andy! Inspiring to see you taking a huge step out of your comfort zone into the unknown distances. Look forward to seeing your journey.
Been absolutely loving the podcast coverage on your marathon training so great to see a video. Side note: Great work on the re-brand, the whole team should be proud of the quality of the content recently. Really stepped up to a whole new level. Thanks guys and gals!!👏
