Animal Fun Fact: The Rev W. Awdry's original ending for this story was to have Henry be scrapped after his accident. This was because Henry was Awdry's least favorite character, and he wanted to have him written out due to issues with illustrator C. Reginald Dalby drawing him inconsistently. Ultimately, Awdry ended up rewriting the story to have Henry undergo a redesign, but could you imagine what life would have been like if he had gone with the original ending? I imagine it wouldn't have been pretty...

If I'd listened to this when I was younger, Johnny's narration style probably would have been nightmare fuel for me too x) But listening to it now, I find it almost relaxing.

It's Lao why they made hi blue again in the last book. In the original publication of "Thomas Goes Fishing" made Henry look like Gordon. The TV series ignored the paint change to avoid the same problem.
Now I know why they let the goods trains crew jump out in time in the TV series, because they didn't want to put in that silly part with the fireman complaining about the bloody cocoa ! 😂

I really wish that this story removed that stupid line where the fireman complains about Henry spilling his coco. This was not a crash that should have been sugar-coated. If that line was removed, the story would be perfect. I'm so glad that they removed it in the episode
Did anyone else thought when they said cocoa you thought they were talking about cocoa puffs when they watched The Flying Kipper on Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends? I did when I use to watch it on video tapes.
@matthwe3468 Actually, you are correct. That part where the engine's face is is called a Smokebox. I'd hate to see the engine's crew cleaning out the Smokebox of one of these engines. Good thing is, the engine can warn them if someone is coming up behind.
7 years late, but the reason is that Henry didn't quite line up with a real world engine (issues from the first book's artist) and Dalby was inconsistent on what Henry should look like 4-6-2 vs 4-6 being one of them, and looking like Gordon was a particularly infamous one while he was painted blue. As a result, this story was written as a way of rebuilding Henry into a Black Five Steamer, which has a design that forced consistency, while also permanently making Henry's wheel arrangement 4-6-0.
Wait, so the other train's entire personal was STILL IN the brakevan when it got hit... and just got thrown into the snow? That makes me feel better about the fact that the TTTE&F adaptation says "the driver and fireman got out just in time" but doesn't mention the guard... although the adaptation was a lot more somber in how it portrayed the gravity of the damage, so perhaps I'm back to square one?... okay, let's just assume Ringo forgot to mention the guard leaving the brakevan. [Shrugs]
