  • @no_one00152
    @no_one00152 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    It was far worse than described in this video. Tourists from all around the world were dashing across the busy road to block and trespass the businesses opposite the Lawson to take their photos, and it's these businesses and residents who have been most unhappy, in addition to Lawson staff who are also tired of the behavior. Locals tried erecting signs and fences, but they were ignored and tourists were even climbing up the buildings. Even with security guards and traffic police, tourists were eating meals on private property and in the middle of side streets, and locals were forced to pick up their trash several times a day. Japanese TV news has far better footage of all the bad behavior. The government tried fines to curb similar behavior in Kyoto, but it didn't work. A viewing platform also doesn't work because this a tiny sidewalk in a residential area, not a tourist spot unlike other areas in town, and the tourists that visit are only interesting in recreating a viral photo of that particular Lawson with Mount Fuji in the background at certain angles. There are numerous places to view Mount Fuji throughout town that make far better photos and there are multiple convenience stores there, including Lawsons, with Mount Fuji in the background as well. The locals do not hate tourists, however, and still want people to enjoy the town. They just don't want unruly tourists to flock to that particular location because it's not a tourist spot and what's happening is not only a nuisance for local businesses and residents, but dangerous.

    Foreigners (like I would be) entering Japan should be forced to sign a Code of Conduct while in Japan. Something that makes us aware of specific circumstances that foreigners might find themselves in. A simple orientation material to better inform people of what is expected of them at a bare minimum when they come.
    Anyone violating that will have little excuse and could be readily banned because they have been put on notice. Then those that are left and enjoy society by the rules can enjoy the extra benefits that such peace affords.
    Imagine being able to have a drink of some alcohol in a park, fall asleep, and not be disturbed or robbed? It could happen if people were decent. This is something we need to protect and barriers are not going to fix the attitude problem. What’s most disparaging is the blocking of Fuji-sama. Its greatness must never be obscured or obstructed. That actually is an interesting question. I’m from Hawaii, but live in Japan now. I actually dislike the tourists in Japan way more. When they come to Japan, tourists feel like they’re entering a “fake world.” Different, language, culture and environment. They get absorbed in experiencing everything (especially since flights were likely so expensive). Since they paid more to be there, some feel more entitled. Even my family! I had to warn them about their behavior since I wrote a letter to the government asking to allow them in during Covid lockdown. They told me “it’s fine, we’re foreign.” And I said “that‘s not an excuse to act anyway you want.” It’s not always out of malice, just innocent ignorance sometimes.
      TLDR:
      There’s something about the Hawaii culture that makes people want to fit in and belong, and something about the Japanese culture that makes people want to gawk and gaggle and continue to act like foreigners.
