I bought fallout 3 last week and have had a remarkably similar experience. I have not played the game since I was a child and I was astonished how broken it still was. Enclave showed up ahead of schedule, a bunch of quests stopped functioning, characters would walk into the wastes oblivion style and just die. It was cringeworthy that they still sell the game without ever fixing the critical issues with it. Also getting it to run took me hours of fiddling with settings and even still it would crash without warning too. It is like a timecapsule from the mid-late 2000s still perfectly preserved in all its ugly glory.
