- Here is your chance to take a ride on the North Bay Railway from Scalby Mills to Peasholm Park and back again. This is a 20" (508 mm) miniature railway, built in 1931 with 4 steam outline diesel locomotives, Poseidon, Robin Hood, Triton and Neptune, which run 7/8 mile (1.4 km). along the North Bay area of Scarborough in North Yorkshire, England. This video was filmed on Tuesday 29th July 2014.
Neptune, built in 1931 is the worlds oldest operational diesel hydraulic locomotive. The two original locomotives at NBR were built with diesel engines for ease of operation, but were outlined to represent the top express engines of the day, the Gresley A1/A3 class steam locomotives. The driver of the second train in this film is my son.

Having a Steam engine fitted with a Diesel engine inside it just ain’t right, but great video tho 👍🏻
It's what you call a "steam profile" model. They're easier to maintain and cheaper by a factor of 10, although you miss out on the feel of an authentic steam locomotive. They're good if you can't afford (or don't want to pay for) and/or can't deal with the necessary maintenance for the real thing but still want the look of a steamer.
Hm fair enough.
Not really.
It’s not
It’s what I call identity thief
These are amazing little trains and the engineering should be appreciated 🏴
Some of the iron castings on these Locos were made by my father in the 30's at Ashby & Anderson Ltd Foundry, Hunslet Leeds ( sadly long gone) I'm now 81yrs young but I remember as a 12/13 yr old taking several rides on these wonderful old girls....Regards Noel Anderson
Looks really nice but the effect is totally gone without the chugging, and hissing of steam
True that
LOL steam enginge case with a diesel engine I'd want my mony back flase advertising!
you're right. I would actually just spend more money to go on a real train than going to a miniature train ride that's powered by diesel and not real steam.
Red Blood It’s more dangerous you know
@@NortheastCorridorFilms what's dangerous? the smoke I can understand. what else? the heat? which is just the boiler. what else? no seriously. what else?....
24:09 That kid sounds like a brat!
He was just yelling-
@@NortheastCorridorFilms yeah in hindsight 15 year old me was a bitch with that comment lmaooo
Dylan Clark Wtf, I never realized this was 5 years old 🤣
Welp, you’re an adult lol
Shame that loco has to be either diesel or petrol. It would be sweet if it was steam. A bit like Green Goddess from the RH&DR.
Oh yeah. Nice video btw. Shows the railway nicely.
thank you :-)
the do use a real steam train sometimes but not often.
Tomedy34 1994 yes
Or a oil burner
I don't like how there are diesal engines.thats one way to ruin a railway. But to be fair, they did a good job, so did you filming this. Matt
MI Rail thank you :-)
Exactly what I think about this loco and many others. It would be super if this was real steam.
I think you mean Diesel as in Rudolf Diesel who invented the 'Diesel' Engine
Oke yes
Ok pak pokok e siap
Before anyone else keeps saying it's a shame they're not steam. Let me explain: these are quite old diesels built by a very well known steam building company Hudswell Clarke during the depression of the 1930's and are quite unique and well built, they only built 9 of this type to keep the workshop busy and fortunately they all survive. They are not a modern lash up.
I much prefer the ROMNEY, HYTHE & DYMCHURCH RAILWAY , with real steam locos......
What about the Eastleigh Lakeside Railway?
It’s not a competition!
did annyeone saw the pigeon at min 7:18
Great film! Thank you for uploading it, we have just 'shared' it on our Facebook page.
Thanks very much, I really enjoyed your railway and I'm glad you enjoyed my video. :-)
Wow never thought I'd see a diesel powered steam locomotive! This would be a great idea for keeping and using steam engines around the world for the sake of keeping the look but having it be more efficient and easier to maintain.
Great video! Really enjoyed the passengers perspective!
Now if only I could drive/operate one :)
Hey, steam or not this certainly is better than no railroad. Diesel in 1931, now that was way ahead of its time for sure:)
Especially making them _look_ like steamers, rather than just a box on wheels.
What kid has never dreamed of being a train conductor? This is a really big toy that everyone loves. Take it for what it is! A great big toy to have "FUN" with. Great video ! ! !
Amazing to see this railway is still going. Fantastic childhood memories from the 1970’s of going on the pedlos and seeing/hearing these engines approaching. Cable cars seem to be gone though. I must admit I always thought they were steam powered but makes no difference they are still great.
I love it!!!...that is a beautiful loco.. I'd be so happy to be that engineer, doing that daily....Love trains!
I would like to own one and ride around the yard
+Raven Roth so would I :-)
Same! I always have wanted one!
Fake steam engine there hummmm
For the uninitiated these are OLD diesel locos that have historic merit in they're own right, they were built by Hudswell Clarke a well known steam loco builders during the 30's depression and were designed to be economical for the operators. So much so that they could afford another within a year of operating. You'll notice they are quite faithful in outline to the original steam loco and not the usual abortion you see built today. All of the nine built survive today and all but one run.
Lovely footage! There have been many very happy customers since the 30s, me included - lots of times!
Wait.....what?
Your over 80??
Just a word about it: weird
Kindly explain why this subject of matter disturbs you.
Absolute amazing rail therapy....Thank you for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
rail therapy....perfect!!
Never overlook a little engine!
Dunno why but I love that clacking sound trains make when going along the track
Ross Smith Yeah, I agree Ross ! :-)
Ross Smith It’s called a gap in between each rail connection. They have to repair the track soon or face derailment

that heavy steel grinding on steel.....yes, yes yes!!

Nice video. The layout is pretty awesome. Well done!
I have been on this.
FYi I would LOVE to have his job!

I think they're all volunteers
Nice channel."thumbs up".
Thank you very much!
This is not about how realistic the train sounds, it’s about the joy this small railway brings to these people
my father Frank Hall deceased of york was involved in building these in leeds in 1931, i was born in 1935 now aged 84 years, cheers
great to hear Terry. Hope you are keeping well and safe these days.....do you know which firm build the railway? There were quiet a few back then in Leeds, like hunslet and kitsons....all gone now.
@@stratman9449 sorry do not know
I was on this train in 1982. Talk about a blast from the past.
Is that an old rollercoaster in the water??
It’s an old water chute from an abandon small theme park.. Jesus Christ is the way
That looks like a DELIGHTFUL park to visit, wish I was there with my grandchildren! Bet it's more fun than ANY of the Disney parks and cheaper.
Which place is this?
It's a shame she'll be turned into a foreign 'no go' zone.
That locomotive looks like Henry from Thomas and friends

"Never Overlook a Little Engine"!
It sounds really weird and stupid for a steam train, would of made more sense just to use that engine in a diesel chassis
It was built like that to pay homage to the steamers but be more efficient.
How did I get here?......
what a rip off, why bother if you're not gonna do it right. frigin internal cumbustion engines. what!!! BLASPHEMY!! arrggg
+Thad ward I was thinking the same thing!
+Thad ward i know how hard steam engines are to maintain so it was probably a solid movement to diesel for a tourist ride like that :)
Thad ward Your average 5 year old who wants to ride a train really doesn't care/even know it's internal combustion...
Thad ward I agree, live steam or nothing
Thad ward แล้วนะคะพี่จ่ายตังครับพี่
Excellent! No live-steam locos, but well appreciated from my side, weil made…greetings from Germany!
Guten Tag, Danke
man it would be fun too own this. cheers from across the pond. Michigan U.S.A.
Which place is this? Would love to visit it once.
Scarborough in North Yorkshire.. Jesus Christ is the way
At @2:00 my friends,you can see D.J. Trump,after the 2020 ofcourse!
Not exactly what I call minature train as in the headline, but nice nevertheless.
very nice film and railway come to CLEETHORPES and ride on ours in steam
Where is the Railway
I don't understand why people are so upset it doesn't run like an actual steam locomotive like... Do you know how much that would cost to operate? Not to mention the hazards of having steam/sparks from the fire box blowing in not only the drivers face, but the passengers face? It looks fine as it is in my opinion!!💚💚
But fire boxes have a little door that you can close it
Sorry, I can't abide these fake steam locos however good they look.
that is not a steam train!!!!
Of course not, it’s too dangerous to use steam on them
@@NortheastCorridorFilms ok
D I E S E L !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ?????
omg well done this has 1.1 million views 🤗
well, it is cheaper and easier to have no steam and be a diesel. It doesn't look too bad there in real life.
ヘンリーやん
Yes weird Diesel steam engines but I can guess why. To me just make it a model of a actual diesel.
Great video and an amazing little railway.
Cannot help but laugh at the mugs on here posting negative comments about the fact the locomotives are steam outline Diesels, do some research and you will find these locos have ran since the 1930's on this railway and have historical significance on there own. And they are an attraction in their own right.
I visit Scarborough every year and the railway is always bustling and in fantastic condition with friendly staff, if you are visiting Scarborough I whole heartedly recommend visiting the railway and Peasholm Park where the railway is located.
Never quite understood why they called it "Peasholm Park Station" when it's in "Northstead Manor Gardens" ... I think.
It's a good way to get around
Xo
Super ride
Funny, I live near North Bay, and Scarborough is 4 hours away. I’ve never heard of this RR. Now I realize it’s NOT in Canada. I was gonna correct someone but I’m the one whose wrong. I’m still giggling inside. Great video and info in the comments. Thanks to you all.

This is cool as fuck where do I get one
i feel click baited visuly by the thumnail it gives promis of steam locomotives when relly its just a fake steam locomotive powered by a deisle engine LAAAAAME!
That's not northbay and Scarborough that every single person in Ontario Canada knows !!!!! False ad lol
Was keren
Ok for kids as its just a glorified fairground ride, but it looks and sounds hideous. Enough has already been said about the locos except if its a diesel make it look like one. But the coaches are horribly out of scale. Check RHDR for how it should be done
It's not steam!!! I spoiled the video by turning the vspeaker on to listen to the steam engine. Oh well - the kids seemed to like it. Put a bigger muffler on it and use some steam sounds coordinated with the wheels. It's around. I think Maerklin has some for their trains.
nice until you hear that bloody IC engine thumbs down from me
WOOOOW. A diesel steam Locomotive . The Scarborough Fake!
não itendo nada
Oh no
That thing sounds like it's running on diesel
Never overlook a little engine!
Una idea fabulosa para los amantes de los trenes. Voy a dedicar mucho esfuerzo para implementarlo en el lugar donde vivo en mi país Chile. Desde ya agradezco información y apoyo de las personas que puedan. Gracias.
I wanted to see this railway but after hearing a Diesel engine in a steam locomotive….. Pass….
Makes me want to ride the train at the Portland Zoo. Ahhh memories.
That's a cool looking train geus I like trains
I Think That Thomas And Friend Arlesdale Railway in real life...
oi
That looks like a fun job
Wow, I thought they meant Scarborough and North Bay Ontario.
People are asking why it is diesel and not steam the answer is that this is a seaside railway that gets its money from the summer season and is closed or only running at certain times of the year.
This is what inspired, The miniature engines on Thomas And friends.
No, it was the RHDR locos that inspired them
I remember going here a few times, got a look around the engine shed once
Sweet ride
That look liked Rex from Thomas and friends
how old are you
950000 years old
OVER 9000!!!!
I like green steam trains 😁👍
I used to love this train when I was young i went on it 24/7
Well done!

+psyclonesteve He was asking why there were steam engines with no steam coming out of the funnels, which is also confusing me...
I don't know ! :-(
WonderfulL!!!
