My father put my mum, sister and I on this train, waved us goodbye, then drove to the final destination in order to wave to us as we arrived and take us home. This was about 65 years ago and is such a fond memory.
Imagine being a race car driver in the Roaring 20s, and building a miniature railway so useful, that it was useful public transport until the 1990s. So useful, that it played a part in WW2.
The skill and dedication that must go into such a railway is incredible ! This is exceptional and a testament to the people who built it and maintain it. Well done indeed. Australia
Now living in Australia but I was a shepherd on Romney Marsh in the 1970s this railway went though my fields. Could tell the time by the trains, they were always on time.
I was totally not expecting the multitude of cars that these locomotives were pulling. Absolutely astounding that we figured out how to generate this much power out of some iron, coal, water, and fire.
Simply amazing and beautiful! Such marvelous trains/art/engineering/passion put in these machines! I followed the tracks usin Google Maps and measure it, around 22kms!!! WOW! Greetings from Argentina, I'd love to meet this place someday.
What splendid little engines! I would love to work on a railway like this! Unfortunately, I am young, and live somewhere where there aren't any many operating railroads.
Has anybody noticed, the lack of litter throughout? I am of German descent, known for great engineering, and being extremely organized and clean. Thank you for this post really enjoying it. Today is April 14th 2023
This is a truly wonderful railway. I don't think I would have wanted my taxes to go to paying for it though. Of course, now it's a charity with volunteers running it and management making money off it.
Dear uncle Terry here's wishing you well charging my glass of Victoria beer in a traditional big German beer glass with a lid on it happy 80th birthday belated as it is happy birthday to pat and Peter
I travelled on this line as a child in the late 1950s (more than 60 years ago!) whilst on holiday @ Dungerness Sands! Great memories, especially of the model railway that was then installed at New Romney Stations, as well as rides on the trains!
UN FELIZ ANIVERSARIO PARA TODOS ESPERO QUE LA PASEN BIEN y QUE DIOS LOS ACOMPAÑEN SIEMPRE CON MUCHO CARIÑO PARA TODOS LOS ACOMPAÑANTES DE ESOS TRENES Y ESPERO QUE LA PASEN CON MUCHA FELICIDAD 😍😍😍😍😍
Oh so beautifull, engineering and creativity at its best. We have similar train (electric) in my home town kanpur, India in kanpur zoological park Allen Forest Zone. Please preserve it. At the same time we all must work hard to save environment and wild life and use only those products which do not harm environment.
From JAPAN
Can u plz tell me which country is holding on to this railway i really love it so much wish some more countries can implement this railway I'll really ❤it , amazing 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
It's meant to be a miniature tourist attraction, but also practical transportation for this resort area of Kent in SE England. Billed as the smallest public railway in the World, at 15" gauge. The track width is quarter scale, but the engines are 1/3 scale and the cars a little bigger than that. They run at very high speeds for a small railroad, up to an actual 25 to 30 mph, on the nearly dead-flat terrain of the Romney Marsh between Hythe and Dungeness Lighthouse.
I found it actually not too bad to travel in, and I'm 6'5"! The 15 inch gauge comes from a castle owner in northern England to show he could make a practical railway using this gauge, useful to carry goods to the castle as early as the 1880s. Mostly the railways were planned as tourist lines in the 20th century and nearly 100 examples have been built (and continue to be built) around the world, over half in the UK, with most of them still running services. Google '15 inch gauge railways' for a complete list.

This little railway is effing incredible, and I hope it lives for at least another 95 years
It should live forever
Hopefully it will also keep its record as the world’s smallest open railway.

People like to under estimate the power of steam engines
This comment made me realize that steam locomotives utilize all the 4 elements from Avatar. Kinda cool
Pss
MAGNIFIQUE ! Je suis subjugué par ces trains !
Simply amazing and beautiful! Such marvelous trains/art/engineering/passion put in these machines! I followed the tracks usin Google Maps and measure it, around 22kms!!! WOW! Greetings from Argentina, I'd love to meet this place someday.
I can almost smell the trains. Fantastic video - brings back some very happy memories.
OUI !...of a better managed time indeed !
What splendid little engines! I would love to work on a railway like this! Unfortunately, I am young, and live somewhere where there aren't any many operating railroads.
i can 100% see these engines as thomas characters, especially Katie
There is at least one book in the ‘railway Series’ that is based on the RH&DR and they interact with “big trains’
The first class* carriages complete with a licenced bar are a nice touch.
* I remember it being something like a couple of quid to upgrade.
Unbelievable brilliant outstanding
A lovely video and beautiful locomotives the best little railway in the world and it runs on a timetable.

I'm sure it say's something wonderful ? anyone who loves trains is alright with me.

Just amazing 👍
FULL FILL ENJOY 👍👌
Reminds me of Thomas and Friends.❤

Brittain, being obvious of it being radically more fancy and sleek looking than others
i wonder how much i would have to pay to own and operate one of these.

These are the same trains that I played in Roblox
Waoooo Such a Beautiful 🚂..
Good 🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂
Unusual to see bilingual signs on a railway in England! Obviously here in Wales it's common, but to have a French bilingual sign?
kalo kyk gini terlalu inggris
G'day Mate!! Kind regards from Bs. As. Argentina... Could you please tell me tha gauge?? Amazing footage!! All the best, Rodolfo
Thank you and greetings from the UK! The gauge is 15 inches or 381 mm.
A great video! Many greetings from Germany. I show monument locomotives on my TH-cam account.
Like it..
Sangat indah mereka adalah anak-anak Tomas
How many horsepower do these engines develop?
Where exactly this marvelous system is located?
it's located on the south east coast in Kent, UK

How long that train track
13 miles
Hythe to Dungeness.
This is where ill spend rest of my life after retirement
What’s the purpose of those little trains?
it's a tourist attraction. There isn't a 'purpose' as such - just a superb narrow gauge railway with beautifully restored steam locomotives.
Steam Train 🚂 Railway 🚃 Station 🚉
I'm surprised that "health and safety" laws allow them to move with the carriage doors wide opemn.
It would of been nice if you gotten on one of them and video tape it. But this is very nice!!!
If you search RH&DR you will find loads of vids on here ,it’s all there .
There is somewere
Where is this awesome place located?
Kent,UK.
In Kent, England
So beautyful but I don't think it's very comfortable sitting. Is this scale or was this format actually used in the past?

Kalau saya suka sekali kereta api itu
WHY ?
When the hobby gets to this level why not go the next step and build a standard gauge railroad and steam engines?
Railway budget cuts
What gauge is this
15 inch
I didn’t know that the Roblox game was based off a real railway
This is a real public rail way
This is the world’s smallest open railway.
