There is a song I have been trying to remember ever since my vinyl collection was destroyed in a flood in 2006. I couldn't remember the artist, or the title. And then, like a miracle, Ronson pulls out a Nikka Costa record, and immediately a light went off: That's it! I quickly opened up another TH-cam window, and sure enough, there it was: Nikki Costa - "Like a feather". Thatnk you so much, Mr. Ronson, you've finally set my mind at ease. That's been bugging me for years!
Brendonmakesmesmile Mad respect to the guy, and I get the accent and all, but the guy's a mumbler. ....guess his music/production speaks louder than he does. jk ;)
The audio is a little bit off, Mark tends to end his sentences with a softer voice which makes it a little bit hard to hear what he's saying. But glad to see the full video in youtube again!
Hey Fuse, I appreciate these. I'm not sure if you have done it already and I can't find it but it would be cool if you made a playlist of the records featured. I get you can't include the track in the video due to rights issues but to deter people from drifting away from your platform to find these tracks it would be good if you curated a centralised playlist to go through that is synonymous with the video. Just an idea.
I saw an article that labeled him a "SVENGALI" - and it really pissed me off. Genius takes so much today, and as a Producer I know he is one of a kind. Honestly he's made collaboration a high art in this current music machine.
Thankyou Mark for getting me into Latin tempo! Already a jazz but that record made me get into latin/Afro-Cuban jazz and all other weird and wonderful funky music.
This one was a Good one, keep em coming, Large Professor, Premo, Q-Tip, Buckwild, RZA, Prince Paul, Showbiz, Madlib, MF Doom, 9th Wonder, Alchemist etc
I remember paying $80 for Santa Esmeralda's "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" at NYC Downtown Records. It was an amount I thought I'd never spend on a record. But, looking back to that day, it was well worth the investment. Thanks for this video. It brought back so many great memories.
'Baby, This Love I Have' was indeed sampled in Check The Rhime. They used the bass line. The song you may be thinking of is 'Inside My Love' off the same album. The long note Minnie holds in the breakdown of the song and the Rhodes behind were sampled.
That prince story! like WOW! I bloody love the Crate Diggers series, it actually was one of the inspirations for my major work at University last year. I created a documentary style short film about collectors of vinyl records, called 'Gathering Grooves'. It's on my channel, please check it out!
Fuse for actually uploading a whole video here and not redirecting us to another link! Also bring the past videos you did that to so we can watch'em I really want to watch the QBERT video.
tried to act cool like the most I paid for a record is like 80 or 100...then picks up a 200 dollar album he just bought to have....you know his spoiled rich ass be spending thousands on records trying to be as cool as his heros
+melun dank but its not like he bought all those expensive records with his family's money. i can also say im in a rich family and I have a house 5 times bigger than yours but to make my own money I have to sell homework at school and it has taken me about 3 months to make enough money to buy a turntable.
+melun dank I also hate it when people relate being rich with being spoiled. I have never been a spoiled child and I have been responsible since a younger age than most. As for my maidens son, he is the most spoiled kid you will ever see and he yells, cries, kneels, and/or throws whatever he has in his hands just to get attention from someone

Thank christ, please keep them on TH-cam in full length from now on, I think it works much better in all respects.
Never been a fan of his but from this interview it's obvious his passion for music is huge, respect.
when someone mentions Blahzay Blahzay and you are into hip hop, you only got to salute and respect this dude!
OMG, Danger!
this is my first time hearing Mark Ronson speak, and i've been a fan of his since 2007. Lol
his half-british half-american accent is really fun to listen to
he kinda sounds like jay z lmao
Brendonmakesmesmile Mad respect to the guy, and I get the accent and all, but the guy's a mumbler. ....guess his music/production speaks louder than he does. jk ;)

It's crazy how I got that Minnie Riperton record for 99cents at a thrift store, and I see it in Mark Ronson's collection a day later #GoodSign
i know, crate digging in shop is like tresure hunt at jeweller

I saw an article that labeled him a "SVENGALI" - and it really pissed me off. Genius takes so much today, and as a Producer I know he is one of a kind. Honestly he's made collaboration a high art in this current music machine.
Someone just in it for the music. Here Comes The Fuzz. Wow.
one of the better episodes of this fantastic cratdiggers serie.
Very intresting stories from Mark Ronson.
Thankyou Mark for getting me into Latin tempo! Already a jazz but that record made me get into latin/Afro-Cuban jazz and all other weird and wonderful funky music.

Wow thats dope his stepfather played in foreigner
YES. This was overdue. Love this show
Thanks for this, I enjoy this series and Mark’s perspective .
First time I've ever heard "Rubenesque" used in reference to Rick Ruben, haha.
This one was a Good one, keep em coming, Large Professor, Premo, Q-Tip, Buckwild, RZA, Prince Paul, Showbiz, Madlib, MF Doom, 9th Wonder, Alchemist etc
A Doom one where he goes through all his samples from Special Herbs would be incredible.
Dan Ritchie agreed
LivingHipHop17 if they still did this dj evil eddie richards would be great a long with Norman Jay
RIP Doom
his voice fades away .
Can you guys and Fuse please place the episodes that were put on your website back on TH-cam in full length also!! Thanks in advance!
Not the craziest beat ever but (i believe) he produced q-tip's "won't trade" on the renaissance album. One of my favorite tracks right now.

What actually is that Minnie Riperton track that plays for 5 seconds from about 4:26?? pls help thank you
Get flying lotus!
That was not how I expected his voice to sound
does anybody know the song beginning at 4:27?
ive listen to the album wheres the break you talking about
GREGG FOXX what album is it?
14:30 I like Gwen McGrae a lot but Mark forgot to say that Vanessa Kendrick did a more smooth version of '90% of me is you', IMO.
What shoes is Mark wearing?
+Mike Rotchburns suede nike air force
23 minutes of name drops
You would though wouldn't you!
Oops...I dig you Mark, but the Minnie Riperton sample is from TCQ Lyrics to Go...and it's the rhodes line...not the bass line.
'Baby, This Love I Have' was indeed sampled in Check The Rhime. They used the bass line. The song you may be thinking of is 'Inside My Love' off the same album. The long note Minnie holds in the breakdown of the song and the Rhodes behind were sampled.
Ahh...my bad. You're right.
Love the Premo story, hilarious
his reaction to hearing actual musicians playing actual music live is fascinating.
Niiice!

I wanted to give this guy a chance despite having reservations, but he seems like a connected rich kid celebrity party DJ who can't help but namedrop.
He’s a talented record producer, and if he’s rich he earned it most definitely.
Keep posting them on TH-cam!Easier for me to watch on my mobile device!!
Thanx
Fuse for actually uploading a whole video here and not redirecting us to another link! Also bring the past videos you did that to so we can watch'em I really want to watch the QBERT video.
Amy wasn't even there for the tracking of that record...jeeze.
Very Nice!!
Cheers, BpmSupreme

had to rewatch parts several times to figure out *exactly* wtf he is talking about. No doubt: the guy knows his stuff, but mumbles it out, doesn't he?

mark "mumbles" ronson
He sounds like Jay-Z
I'm sure that this man is a great artist in his own right however she who has done just particular film truly sucks can't hear a f****** thing
To cheap to get a sound man
Mark Ronson looks like an evil villain in some comedy
is it just me who thinks he sometimes tries to sound american? 0:56
I don't he's trying to put in on, he was raised for some years in the states I think so his accent is probably a mix of the two places.
Maybe you're right... i think it makes him sound a bit scottish occasionally
George Hartley Its even worse when you hear an Aussie with a half aussie/yank accent!
he was born in the UK but moved to the US when he was like 5yrs old and hes been moving back and forth since then
Peekaboo Junebug wasn't aware of that :)
First 12" he bought was Whistle "Buggin'"? Not sure how old he was at the time… I smell BS on that one.
You assumed he bought at the time of release. You should know Tower Records had an extensive back catalogue.
Whistle was in NO WAY shape or Form a Fat Boys knock off group, what the fuck is he talking about? They sang and rapped Produced by Kangol Kid of UTFO
cool but he mumbles SO MUCH.
Hmm I don’t think so. He’s just soft spoken.
can't understand what he's saying a lot of the time

+melun dank he is not spoiled if he made his own money, he deserves it.
starting out rich helps.
+melun dank but its not like he bought all those expensive records with his family's money. i can also say im in a rich family and I have a house 5 times bigger than yours but to make my own money I have to sell homework at school and it has taken me about 3 months to make enough money to buy a turntable.

point is he knows damn well he has paid several hundred for many records...

This man is definition of white privilege lol
His Middle atlantic accent is horrid
🥰
