Hi I just bought this machine because I wanted the treadle cabinet it only sews straight stitch however even though the zigzag leaver moves is there something I can do or clean to make it sew again? I feel in love with it and I would hate to give it away because in my area people don’t really appreciate this machines and I fear it would end up on a land field somewhere 😢, I loved your video

If you stop the video at the six minute mark you can see the zig zag mechanism with the back cover off. At the bottom of the opening is the rod that swings the needle bar. At the top is the cam that supplies the motion. The arm about half way between the two is connected to the stitch width lever on the front of the machine. With it in the position shown the drive rod is at the pivot point of the yoke and it sews straight stitch. As the drive rod moves up a track in the yoke the zig zag gets wider. If it's not making zig zag either the drive rod isn't moving up it's track in the yoke or the other end of it isn't connected to the needle bar. Hope this helps sort it out.

If you still have this machine, is there a small spring between the bottom end of the bracket which holds the needle bar and the body? Do you know the purpose of the spring (if it is there)?

@@Anon20139 I don't recall a spring in that area. If my memory isn't playing tricks on me it used a "pigtail" style thread guide near there. This resembles a spring but actually allows you to pass a thread through the middle by pulling it around the open coils.

@@joekahno Mine is a FashionMaker that was not sold in US, but the mechanism is similar. The spring fell out when a technician visited to check a needle alignment problem; I've asked him to come back to fix it. But here in India, they often say a part is not needed if they can't fix it. There is a solid thread guide on the body and on the needle clamp.

I have a 206, and the needle position lever will only go half way up, sound like it is hitting something hard, any idea what going on.

I also have a 206 that I'm pulling out of storage and going to function check before I list it on eBay. I'll set up a camera and maybe we can figure things out.

When I moved to the Philippines I brought my 306 with me. Not because it's a better machine, because it's made of aluminum and ten pounds lighter. Before I left I sold my 216g for $250. If I could buy it back here and now for the same price I'd do it in a heartbeat. That's just me.

    Are you selling this?

Actually, yes. Right now I'm waiting for a power cord so I can set it up with a standard Singer foot pedal. It will be going up for auction on eBay next week.

Hi. I have a Singer 298 FashionMaker. I'm told it wasn't sold in the US. From numerous videos I've watched, based on the face, needle and back mechanism, I think the 298 comes closest to the 216G and 316G. You started with saying you had a problem with the needle position. I have a similar one - the needle is striking the back of the hole. I'm unable to figure out how to align it to the centre, ie make a front-back adjustment. Can you help please. I've put a detailed video here.
