Yeah it's completely unacceptable. The confinement is the punishment for the crime. The loss of your freedom and autonomy is what you have been scentenced to. Poor hygiene, inedible food, extremely overcrowded conditions, sub standard medical, dental and psychiatric care if any at all, abuse, violence, bullying, and sexual assult. Constant severe neglect at the hands of those who have unlimited power over you is unacceptable and in my opinion should be illegal.
The County of Los Angeles is closing Men's Central Jail it's been approved last Fall. If I understand correctly, it houses 12000 inmates. There's no say on where current and future inmates will be housed in the County of Los Angeles.

Rikers island is a joke ..it’s best not to even have a dam jail.. seeing how all the criminals booked their are let go after spending less then a week At rikers..anyway..!! what a waste of tax dollars.. what’s the point of arresting some one that’s gonna be taken to an island to be released in a few days.. ha what a waste of gasoline lol
Uhhh I'm not entirely sure that is correct? People who are held in rikers are being detained while awaiting their turn in court. These people haven't been convicted of anything... they are technically and in many cases are truly innocent and should be treated as such. These people being detained in rikers are in the huge majority have been given a bond amount which means they are approved for release to await their day in court. HOWEVER for so so many their bond amount is either outrageously high and completely unreasonable considering the charges. Or even in the case of a more "reasonable" amount bond amount being set you will find it is still completely unattainable to most inmates and their families. So what happens? With no way to pay their bail thy are forced to stay in jail indefinitely, with no set court date, for anywhere up to SEVEN YEARS without ever being found guilty of a single thing. All that and in the end the charges may be dismissed or thrown out. So that means you have just spent 7 years incarcerated for absolutely nothing. It's more common than you realise. So the female council member making statements that there are more officers in that agency versus everywhere else in the country you need to educate yourself on the fact that almost every other jail facility in the country has what is called indirect supervision whereas New York City still has direct supervision so that explains the ratio difference that you mentioned you should have educated yourself on this fact before making comments because it makes you look ill-informed and uneducated on what you are commenting on

You have to hire more officer, that will assist with programs, coverage, callout, vacations, etc
