  • At MG Motor India’s Halol facility in Gujarat, the diversity ratio is 37% and women employees can be seen carrying out some of the most difficult operations in car manufacturing. The company's paint facility has a higher women representation of over 40%.
Yeshwinder Patial, Director of HR, told Mobility Outlook that MG Motor is making every effort possible to increase the diversity ratio to 50:50. It also helps employees with opportunities to train and reskill. “Every employee at the Halol facility is treated with equal respect and given equal opportunities,” he added.
MG Motor’s respect for its women workforce can also be gauged from its first media advertisement a couple of years ago. The focus was not on its cars but on a woman race driver. Through this ad, the company was encouraging more women to join its team.
MG Motor also has a “Drive Her Back" programme which helps those women who are on a break from their professional innings to restart their journey. The initiative has helped over 60 women and it merits mention in this context that the voice in the MG Astor SUV is that of a woman -- India's Paralympic champion, Deepa Malik.
As Rajeev Chaba, MD & President, MG Motor India, says, ”At MG, you will find different people working in a cohesive environment because we believe diversity does not divide but binds us.”
