Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust is a large organisation serving a population of 650,000 people, employ 6,000 staff, have approx. 1200 beds and £440m turnover. Like many organisations in the NHS at the moment Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust is challenged financially to deliver efficiency savings while ensuring that it continues to deliver high quality care.
The implementation of a Inventory Management system showed following benefits:
• Reduction in inventory holding
• Reduction in wastage and clinical risk of out-of-date inventory
• Significant efficiencies in clinical time
• Less manual intervention for products which don't need it
• Reduction of small orders
• Space saving
• Improved service
The Inventory Management system, understands that for Foundation Trusts, the key challenges are both service line and patient level reporting, but recognize that the ability to drill down to the data and have a clear visual of the cost exceptions and find out why is equally important. The inventory technology provides a root to data ensuring lean processes, efficient operations, accurately forecasting activity and stock levels whilst ensuring good quality data is produced.
