Just helped my grandson buy one of these at Guitar center used and in perfect condition for $160.00. Absolutely amazing quality. Fit and finish are as close to perfection as you would see in any Strat made elsewhere. Beautiful maple neck with Rosewood fingerboard. Plays great and stays in tune. Best guitar for the money...period!
Tried a used one of these today at Guitar Center ($179) and did an A/B/C comparison with a 60's Classic Vibe Strat ($399) (which I own) and a Mexican Standard Strat. Thought my 60's CV was great but fell in love with the neck profile and sound of the Mexican Standard ($599)..The CV sounded thin, bright and jangly whereby the VM and Mexi strat sounded almost identical to each other being warmer and fuller tones (more "jazzy") with the Mexi sounding almost a slight bit better. Both the VM and Mexi were pretty quiet with less 60 cycle hum than CV - the Mexi and VM had a rounded out mellower sweet tone and made the 60's CV sound thin and biting by comparison. Other than larger headstock, the VM and CV necks were identical profile and feel (VM neck and frets as good as the CV). Mexi neck was fatter and satiny finish which felt great. Mexi knobs and switches were better and more robust. VM Strat was impressive as it sounded almost identical to the more expensive Mexi and was only slight less desirable due to the neck profile and switch quality. I also own a VM Jaguar and my conclusion is this: VM is every bit as good as the CV's for less $. In fact, they appear to be the same on the surface (I know the CV may have better internal specs but I can't tell by touching and playing them) BTW, I also A/B'ed the Mexi Strat against a $1000 American Standard and (not taking price into account) I think I still preferred the Mexi. I am guessing the Mexi's quality has improved lately and people will start to notice but maybe haven't yet. Of course, the American has value holding potential over the Mexi but the mexi seemingly is sitting at a sweet spot of value and quality. If $ is the issue, the VM's are great. I know CV's are in favor but the VM's I have tried are every bit as good if not better. For me, I am skipping the CV's and getting VM's or Mexi's now.
Luuk Huizing i am really confused between buying this or an epiphone les paul standard plustop . which one should i get looking at the overall features, tones, tunimg stability etc?
I just picked up a vintage modified HSS as my first new guitar in forever. I love it. Not an AMAZING instrument, but it's killer for the price I think. Great to start playing again on. Video of it on my channel, actually.
While you were playing that "clean 70s funk" a guy with ray bans and a mustache knocked on the door and told my girlfriend he's here to clean the pool... Strange, we dont have a pool.
Thank you for what I call a great series of videos. It will make me choosing the right Squier for me so much easier. And you give a nice guitarlesson as a well received extra.... Bravo...
Man that sure does look like a Ritchie Blackmore model. Squier is hitting home runs with these models. I have enough expensive guitars, this one is a perfect inexpensive edition to my modest but cool collection.
I just bought the electronics for this to put in my '92 MIJ '62 Reissue.(Squier) I've been wanting this guitar for 4 years but I'm so excited to get this combination assembled this week.
7000ironman Actually, this is 249 new...I got the 299 price tag confused with the deluxe. Still I managed to talk one store down to 200 on the VM and an ebayer down to 229 on the deluxe. The VM just feels so good....and the duncan designed pickups are pretty damn good as well.
I got one second hand for 180euro. Put a better bridge in it, cs69 in the neck, fat 50s in the mid and an old Maxon pickup from a Greco strat in the bridge. I love this guitar soo much. And I have I have much more expensive guitars. but the vintage modified is perfect !!
I bought the VM black version togheter with a fender mustang I amp. Neck is just pefect, I only tuned a little bit the action in order to have the right trade of between playability and sustain. The sound of the pickup is really good and loud (expecially the neck one) I like playing pink floyd, dire straits songs. I also changed the knowbs and the pickup cover (fender Parchment kit) It's look like the gilmour's black strat, it is really cool! possible upgrade (pickups, tuners, bone, tremolo)
I´m sorry to bother you but when you revoved the pickguard did you see if there is a cavity for a humbucker pickup in the neck and bridge position? thank you.
I purchased the black VM with maple neck in Dec 2012 from my local GC in IL. I love it. Got it for just under $200. For the price, I did eventually mod it with the following: DiMarzios Area Strat noiseless pups, a GraphTech XL nut and GraphTech string saver saddles. The stock Duncan-designed pups are good and sound great, but the DiMarzios add better tone and eliminate hum. I opted to upgrade the nut and saddles for better tuning stability. Yes, I spent close to $500 for the Strat with upgrades
These guitars look and sound fantastic....:-) You can gig with them for months, or even years, and when it's worn out.......you just buy another! Cheers Mate!!!
that guitar just SCREAMS Ritchie Blackmore(minus Ritchie's famous scallop job{much different than the Yngwie scallop}). I was hoping you'd play Rainbow's "All Night Long"...
great video! love the sound and looks of this...Just what ive been looking /waiting for...from Squier....I had a MIM like this years ago...but I just orderd this model couple days ago!
I just wonder if this squier is the same with my indian made vintage modified? My Squier is made from Cedar and sounds really well. I would be really glad to hear it in this wonderful hands. My Squier was made in 2008 and has red metallic finish. So, I had really difficult times to choose which one to buy. Cedar seemed to be better then basswood.
Changed the pu to fender player alnico 2 n 5 (hss). Bone nut. Fender mim tuners. New pots. Paper in oil capacitor. Golden Brass trem. Black strat with white pearl pickguard.
Actually, I paid less for my used MiM Standard. Sorry if I sounded harsh, it's just that I thought they could have given it a more '70s vibe than they did. I really like Squiers a lot, and I have a Friend who has a VM '70s. It's a good Axe, plays great, the pickups are just ok, but that's an easy fix.
Holds up ok. No problems with mine. I think some people are clumsy and bash their gear around. I've owned a couple of basswood guitars, no issues at all.
i'm considering to buy this guitar OR squier vintage modified telecaster custom i. Which one is the best for R&B/Soul and groovy music? little bit confused...
'70s Strats didn't come with Kluson style tuners, they should have put trapezoid tuners stamped with an "S" instead of an "F" on it. An "S" plate 3 bolt neck with micro tilt and Bullet truss rod would have been a nice touch also. As it is, this is basically just a Squier Standard, with vintage tuners, and 6 point bridge.
I have this exact guitar. It has always sounded muddy to me and not very "stratty". Anyone else have this issue? (But I must admit it sounds great in this video...)
whichever feels better. 2 totally different necks, 2 different scales. if you have smaller hands I would go with a Les Paul with the shorter scale. opposite for bigger size hands
I have not seen either first hand, but there is another video on here that states that the vintage white is a solid colour, whereas the vintage blonde is not (allowing the wood grain to be seen).
The VW is copy of Blackmore's and the black is copy of Gilmour's. I like first so much. I bought schaler tuners and bridge and setup the guitar like Blackmore and the sound is awesome!
Wrong....the black is a replica of The Edges guitar...Gilmours strat had white pickup covers and knobs...whereas that squire is identical to the edges.
If you want to sound like David Gilmour, learn to play like David Gilmour and every guitar you play will sound like DG, This guitar should be fine, in fact on paper looks pretty good for that task. . . . get the black one with maple neck, put a one ply black guard with white pickup covers and knobs and you have a poormans David Gilmour Strat, which I'm considering doing myself with this guitar. . . . .
***** I was being facetious. I own many guitars, among them I have a Squier Vintage Modified and a Squier deluxe. I love them both (i like the vintage modifieds neck better, though). I picked both of them up new for $200 and $220, respectively. I thought it was obvious my comment was humorous, but oh well....

Proof that you don't need an expensive guitar to sound good. If you put a Fender logo on the headstock it would sell for 4x as much.
Tried a used one of these today at Guitar Center ($179) and did an A/B/C comparison with a 60's Classic Vibe Strat ($399) (which I own) and a Mexican Standard Strat. That neck pickup sounds awesome!
Man you tore that thing a new one. As a Ritchie Blackmore fan, it is cool that there is a guitar that captures his attitude on a workin' man's budget.
What a novelty - someone giving a dem who knows what they're doing. Excellent
I'm amazed that a $300 guitar is capable of that tone. I need one badly.
I have got one, they are monstrous!
Joseph Wheeler yeah men is fuckin great!
Luuk Huizing do they stay in tune
??
the biggest problem that is with me is guitars going off tune
Upakar Dhakal They stay in tune really well actually!
Luuk Huizing i am really confused between buying this or an epiphone les paul standard plustop .
which one should i get looking at the overall features, tones, tunimg stability etc?

Looks like blackmores strat.
I've got one just like the one in the video, and it plays and sounds great!
John Dial yeah me too :D
John Dial does it stay in tune?
I just bought this guitar and man for the money this guitar sounds good I was kinda leary when I looked at it but when I played it I was impressed
I have this guitar and love it.
7000ironman 299 new. If its been on the rack for a while, you can talk some down to 200 bucks new like I did.
7000ironman Actually, this is 249 new...I got the 299 price tag confused with the deluxe.
Still I managed to talk one store down to 200 on the VM and an ebayer down to 229 on the deluxe.

Amazing neck on the all black 70
I got it for $179
Put white pickup covers and knobs :)
Just ordered one of these..can't wait to get it !!
Great , clean sound from that Little Fender Champ!
I have old one Squier VM start and it's amazing. My was made in India.
I have the black one on the right. Love. It!!! I also have the Frontman 65R, too loud to play in my flat.
I bought the VM black version togheter with a fender mustang I amp.
Neck is just pefect, I only tuned a little bit the action in order to have the right trade of between playability and sustain.

I got the black one because it looks like a guitar tony clarkin from the band magnum would use haha, can't wait to get it and jam out
I'm planning on getting one of these.
Looks like Blackmore's strat. Sounds great too.
These guitars look and sound fantastic....:-) You can gig with them for months, or even years, and when it's worn out.......you just buy another!
Cheers Mate!!!
sounds amazing
that guitar just SCREAMS Ritchie Blackmore(minus Ritchie's famous scallop job{much different than the Yngwie scallop}). I was hoping you'd play Rainbow's "All Night Long"...
Wish fender would do a special run of these guitars again in 2023...
HELL YEEEAAAAAH DUDE ROCK ON
great video! love the sound and looks of this...Just what ive been looking /waiting for...from Squier....I had a MIM like this years ago...but I just orderd this model couple days ago!
These things are fucking SWEET
wow you just show up brother!!!!
Damon, you gotta stop teasing me with all these cool guitars. My budget can't take it anymore.
Im getting the black Gilmour one in the background
It's more "the edge" than Gilmour
lovely
I just wonder if this squier is the same with my indian made vintage modified? My Squier is made from Cedar and sounds really well. I would be really glad to hear it in this wonderful hands. This will make a great mod strat! Frankenstrat anyone?
James Russo No reason to, this is an awesome strat.
krelbar Yeah but I'm thinging better pickups, better nut, and a really good setup
Mick Jurries true. But I don't like locking trems so ya. Lol
blackmore -lized it!!
Changed the pu to fender player alnico 2 n 5 (hss). Bone nut. Fender mim tuners. New pots. Paper in oil capacitor. Golden Brass trem. Black strat with white pearl pickguard.
sounds kinda like a sexy, funky, filthy beast of a guitar
I've heard basswood is a very soft wood and doesn't take any kind of knocks. How does the Vintage Modified range hold up to gigging and heavy usage?
I wish they had this in a lefty. I have a 1971 natural lefty strat. I want a backup in case I break a string on stage. this strat would be perfect
Hi everyone in TH-cam land! Just wondered what amp is the video?
Just ordered mine...
It sounds like it should, Like a Strat.
Cant wait to play some Pink Floyd with this!
my dream!!
Hi Demon, I want to have The Edge's strat sound, should I buy this guitar?!
I'm aboit to by one of those. Will I be well served?
Actually, I paid less for my used MiM Standard. Sorry if I sounded harsh, it's just that I thought they could have given it a more '70s vibe than they did. What you recommend? The Hot rails deluxe squier or this one?
'70s Strats didn't come with Kluson style tuners, they should have put trapezoid tuners stamped with an "S" instead of an "F" on it. An "S" plate 3 bolt neck with micro tilt and Bullet truss rod would have been a nice touch also. As it is, this is basically just a Squier Standard, with vintage tuners, and 6 point bridge.
you have any vintage modified hss strat vids??
what would you recommend for a john mayer sound?
whoa tha dude can play lol!
I have this exact guitar. It has always sounded muddy to me and not very "stratty". Anyone else have this issue?
(But I must admit it sounds great in this video...)
It's a Fender Super Champ! Just found that out and answered my own question! Ha!
cool : )
hey guys, I need help, I want to buy this guitar or les paul epiphone standard as my first guitar, wich you would suggest?
whichever feels better. 2 totally different necks, 2 different scales. if you have smaller hands I would go with a Les Paul with the shorter scale. opposite for bigger size hands
renxytolol they are both 2 separate animals. You should really buy both eventually if you really want to cover all bases.. what did you buy???
is it still retailed?
Hey guys, anyone knows how it sounds like when played neoclassical? Yngwie malmsteen type of vibe ?
whats the difference between vintage white and vintage blonde. they look the same to me.
I have not seen either first hand, but there is another video on here that states that the vintage white is a solid colour, whereas the vintage blonde is not (allowing the wood grain to be seen).
Sc101m pickups ?
i want to sound like John Frusciante. It will be a good choose?
+Henry ‘Henryl4’ Lugmania try a gretsch white falcon
Yeah if you want the Frusciante sound play a Strat. I do and I do..
Yep - sounds like a Strat.
Can you play metal or grunge on it?
The VW is copy of Blackmore's and the black is copy of Gilmour's. I like first so much. I bought schaler tuners and bridge and setup the guitar like Blackmore and the sound is awesome!
Wrong....the black is a replica of The Edges guitar...Gilmours strat had white pickup covers and knobs...whereas that squire is identical to the edges.

Yes, I agree that Gilmour is all about the way he plays!! I will be doing that too
@Lovemylovething The Vintage Modified series is not meant to be 'period accurate'.
The clue is in the word "Modified".
Jack Black?
Was it made in japan???
Wich amp do you use in this video?
Carlos Gonzalez fender super champ
Don't modify it and you have a Ritchie Blackmore Strat copy -.-"
And anyway: Malmsteen's signature model is also available with rosewood fingerboard
I am the only one who thinks that Damon Chivers looks like John Norum? :D
The black strat looks like the Edge's strat
Proof that you dont need to spend a lot on a guitar to get a good sound. You just need to know your way around a fretboard like damon.
@randomtwit Indonesia!
But my guitar is on par with more expensive Fender Strats now (IMHO).
@blazedcurse it's a fender super champ XD
It sure is, nice amp.
Sexy?
You better believe it!
*Schaller
In order to dent it you first have to bash it against something. You're not supposed to do that !!!
150 bucks a lady I know is selling one. She wants it gone. So its mine
so it's got a c-shape neck, then? 70s strat my bum!
Umm Jimi wasn't really alive in the 70s but ok
He was for nine months of it! ;)
Big headstock came out in 66 not 70
Great guitars. Make sure you go to confession and repent for supporting slave labor for the sake of an inexpensive guitar.
So what guitars do you play?
***** I was being facetious. I own many guitars, among them I have a Squier Vintage Modified and a Squier deluxe. I love them both (i like the vintage modifieds neck better, though). I picked both of them up new for $200 and $220, respectively.
I thought it was obvious my comment was humorous, but oh well....
Lol and your comment about the deluxe and VM got me thinking to ask as to why you like your VM better besides the neck?
fuck that I'm an atheist lol
You just feel a fool because you paid a lot of money for ovepriced guitars!
sounds quite harsh and tinny :/
still good for an entry level guitar
