Completely agree. The economy is 90% of the game so foresters and miners and so on aren't an afterthought, they're the first thought that should be had. They'll be doing a sequel to Dawn of War next with tiny numbers of units. :(

Real The Settlers was a game in which roads reigned, being the quintessence of economy, gaining land by building towers and hours of gameplay on boards that you could also create yourself. Now it's just an ordinary RTS like many on STEAM, nothing outstanding. Instead of a new "version", do a decent remake of the second part.
Three months before release of a SETTLERS-game: "This will open the door to a deeper economy experience :)" THE WHOLE IDENTITY OF THE SERIES IS DEEP ECONOMY EXPERIENCE. It's like building call of duty and adding headshot or ADS in the final months of the game to "open the door to a deeper shooter experience".
Tried to explain that food wasn't needed anymore and how thats a good thing, even though that breaks the game Added in the forester hut, as if they didn't know that with out it the game was broken..... This isn't settlers...
There is nothing wrong in battling other players. It was a cool in Settlers 3 and 4. But still, military aspect needed the huge support from economy and that was a good challenging game.

Settlers was always, at its core, a relaxing city building experience, with fun campaigns and sandbox modes and not a pvp focus game like AoE or star craft/warcraft. I suspect this game won't do very well unless it gets a big rework.
hahaha....hahahaha...wait, did you really just say that?!?! Settlers has ALWAYS been an arms race to defeat an enemy. Settler 4 worldcup PvP matches are being played to this day. Just because you played it simcity style doesn't mean that the game is anywhere near a good build-up. ANNO, Cities Skylines etc. Those are build up games. Each and all settlers have always been "eliminate the other faction before they eliminate you" games. Be it with soldier production or victory points (S7).
In 1993 The Settlers was released, a game only 1.5Mb in size, running on the Amiga's 7MHz processor. 30 years later they still cant make a game as good.
Can you build walls? Can you build a city ? Settlers 6 was the best in that you could actually build a large bustling city, trade with other cities and of course go to war with other cities.

This still doesnt look good enough! Where did all that work go? Why was it changed? Why are you not listening to the players who will buy the game? There are games nowadays that can be used as inspiration, ie Manor Lord. This what you are offering does not appeal.
Settlers 3 are great, but actually I am waiting more than 25 years for a spiritual successor of Settlers 2 - It is the best game of the series to date. And Ubisoft is unable to create it.
@@Trickyman26 dono if it was the best as i never played the other's till 7 which meh felt more like a stronghold ish attempt. but i love the design of 2. i think ppl like 3 more as from what i heard they were improving the concept back then before they changed the concept in the later games.
I remember the old gameplay elements for this game. Walls, different kinds of military units, an arena with champions, several ways to win the game, randomly generated maps... Why was almost everything you promised us in former videos deleted?
Because the fighting element was what was wrong with it. I would wish they would delete all of it. It is called settlers, not "fighting game with little to no building and economy". And yes, even the early settlers had fighting, but it was not the main gameplay. Beta versions felt like they were just trying to make a money machine with mechanics from games like dota, etc. Might have been good if they had not tried to shoehorn something in a settler game.
@@CouchCoach "fighting game with little to no building and economy" Well, they also simplified almost every production chain afterwards. What they showed us in earlier videos was more complex than whatever they present us now.

those features had to be requested ? ? ? lol those are the basics of a game like this I am really hoping this game will tie me up for more than few dozen hours without getting frustrated over lack of things that were in the original on Amiga 😉
Sorry guys. I tried the first version of this game, but I couldn't get the 'Settlers feeling' at all. Loved the first 2 games in the 90s. Played them to death. This has (almost) nithing to do with that... With the exception of Settlers 6, I never touched them, until I got the oppertunity to try this one (in an early stage). As it seems now, this will not be a 'real' Settlers game at all unfortunately...
Why so much emphasis on army and combat? Settlers was always about management and building something nice. Talk more about economy and supply chains, talk about challenges of management of large villages. Combat should come last and not be too important. Or you can just go and check Against the Storm game. Now, thats a game Settlers should be.
After Settlers 4 there hasnt been one singel good release. Why not just upgrade graphics for Settlers4 and release it without desync problems. Give the people what we are waiting for!
I’m glad you’ve listened to some of the feedback that was given, but this still is nothing like what made The Settlers 3 and 4 the best games in the franchise. Forget this obsession with mmo/pvp stuff, it’s not the game for that. I still want to see way more production chains from settlers 3 and 4 and more military buildings to do with defence. Why did you cut out walls? That would be an improvement from 3 and 4! I’m not keen on the fantasy stuff as well but not much you can do about that now
Months and years, to keep missing the point. It's a builder not a combat game... this is flopping so hard the new expression for failed games is going to be : "They Settled it."
@@perafilozof yeah dude, it's depressing just how far off the mark this new game looks. Seems to me the suits won't allow the devs to make a new Settlers game like the old ones because they want a million-seller, and to do that they think they need to make it more like other games. This will end up pleasing nobody.
@@deonduplessis4126 I know. They are using the Settlers brand to try and get into the RTS multiplayer market. What they ended up doing is just pushing away the Settler's fans and not appealing to anyone in the RTS audience. This is going to be dead on arrival and the stupid suits are just going to bury the franchise with this failure. If i had the money I would just buy the license off their hands. They don't know what to do with it anyway except to destroy it.
So basically they added 6 maps, of which should be auto generated anyway in Settlers. Added a building which has been a core building since 1992, and tweaked a few configs? After all this time?
This game was so promising until you dumbed it down to a mobile game level. Thanks for nothing Ubisoft. I feel sorry for Volker Wertich (the guy who did the first Settler games), he had such a great vision for the game.
I am absolutely sure some executives in suits from Ubi came to the office and told them to plow everything down as the excel charts were telling they will make no money from that. So sad to see another franchise die.
i think there still hoping old fans will buy it based on the 2019 footage of which it seems nothing is left unless its part of the supposed campaign mode they have now, but i think its more likely the campaign is just like the multiplayer but with AI and a story.
This is a joke, first you tease us with 2019 version which had true potential, then postpone it couple of times saying you listened to testers, although forums had the answers you listened to someone else... and then bring out this rts mobile battle royale game. At least have the backbone to admit defeat and rename to something not Settlers...
Please rework the forester and make mines need food to work. The regrowing trees mechanic could be used as an area around the forester. Just remove the fence and remove the forester being able to harvest wood. And replace the regrowing trees with normal trees on the maps.
It's simpler to navigate dudes from the console market. Try to do something as precise as mouse click and drag bug on pad :) I personally won't buy it as it stands now. Pvp based sim with simplified controls . What a shame.
The developers don't listen to the advice of the loyal fans of The Settlers series and it's easy to meet that this game will be a complete failure! Please return to the 2019 version before it's too late!
i have a feeling the 2019 version was the concept they took to Ubi and Ubi's response was probably but how do we make mo money then just from the game. as that is how it often go's with games under a big publisher these days. for me im calling this franchise dead. the only hope i have is from Ubisoft themselves struggling when trying to get sold/bought out.
This looks more like an Age of Empire spin off. The Settlers has always been a city building game focusing on production, logistics and trade. The war and combat stuff was a secondary affair and often comes in as a late game mechanic. I don't see anything resembling the old Settlers that I used to love. Especially with the hexagon tiles. To me it just looks weird.
Fo Gods sake, WHY are you focusing on WAR?? This is NOT what we expect from a Settlers game. I should be all about long production chains, complex economy, not a AoE with more resources. Just take Settlers 4 and upgrade it´s engine, thats all. You are hopeless, Ubi.
In any case, Ubisoft has listened to us on some important points, frankly the game looks much more complete than the beta, even if there are still some essential additions like fortification in general and maps with randomly arranged resources. Keep it up Ubi. Ps: the game still looks great, both in terms of graphics/modeling and art direction.
This should've been released with another name, but I quite like what I'm seeing. The thing is I bumped into it by accident, Ubisoft will probably kill it by lack of marketing. Edit: I was thinking of getting it, but with no Steam release, this is a no-go for me.
Sounds like they need to play the old games and get the economy up to par with what everyone loved about the old settler games, with added new idea's to make this a successful title once again. This will be the HUGE test to see if they really are listening to the community!
they are still developing the game through player feedback to make the perfect settlers game and I think it's the right direction. so much has already been updated and All we know this could be years away. So we will have to wait and see.
@@mohammadashikurrahman7530 The game is finished dude. It was supposed to be finished at the start of 2022 (well actually 2020) but got ripped to shreds when they showed the beta about 3 weeks prior to the planned release. They delayed it to "adress the feedback from the beta".
@@EdwardDragon96 that's the thing dude. It is still uncertain if the game will get delayed or not. Was supposed to release in 2019 but beta testers weren't happy on what they got. So it got delayed to 2020. Then again the player feedback wasn't good so it got delayed 2022. Again the feedback was bad so they delayed it indefinitely. Now what will happen if the beta testers aren't happy with the game? Obviously it will get delayed again until the game becomes what most players want. If most people like the online features then they will work on the online features more and if people want something else then they do will what they have been doing all along. So I don't get what point you are trying to make. You can always go back to the older titles. Nobody is forcing you to play this game.

I remember having relaxing experience. That's what I would expect from this game. When I want an action I go play FPS. I hope some marketing guy reads this.
You are doing with Anno 1800 everything right! Building an Anno like the old Anno's. Everyone loves this game. With settlers ... you are doing the complete opposite side. Why are you not creating an "old" settler-styled game? Everyone wants that like Anno but NO ... another Age of Empire clone that nobody wants to play. Give us a real Settlers game, please.
The trailer made this game look like a deep economy/city building experience with some combat tacked on- i.e. the game I and apparently most of the people in the comments actually want to play. This update makes the game looks like AoE2 Clone #713. So are game devs horribly uncreative or is the business office demanding you copy something that already has its market cornered? At the very least have a low/non-combat mode.
You know what ubisoft if you want to make settler into pvp multiplayer strategy game so bad at less make every settlers need food and troops need fed or they will died and change the title to knight and merchant instead
I remember playing Serf City in 1998 or so. I played Settlers 3, Settlers 7 as well. I've always been rubbish at them, never being able to fully understand the flow of goods and materials required to make an economy that was balanced enough that I could defend myself while also not starving, but I have gotten better as I get older and play more games like them. I look forward to being terrible at this game as well.
I am a fan of Settlers 4. I need that to be visually upgraded, having twice more buildings and improved army, while still keeping feature of unlimited number of settlers. This is another settlers game which is not settlers. Good that Settlers 4 anniversary version was updated to run on modern pc's resolutions and we have games like Farthest Frontier.

But now that the creators go with their goal one step further and further empower RTS at the cost of the economy... that's where problems start. Perhaps in their minds they are still creating true settlers game, but better
Combat was always part of the game too, but it was the ENDGAME of every map not the entire focus
ok i dont get how standard things likea forester had to be requested. these are all building and units the original settlers had. have none of the people making these games played the older ones? just slap everything thats in the older ones and update it with newer graphics and mechanics i dont get how standard things need to be requested.
Completely agree. The economy is 90% of the game so foresters and miners and so on aren't an afterthought, they're the first thought that should be had. They'll be doing a sequel to Dawn of War next with tiny numbers of units. :(
@@jonevansauthor its like making a dawn of war without the buildings to make units lol
@@mccoyisthebest yeesh - is that what they did with Dawn of War 3? I knew there was something in the back of my brain telling me not to buy it in a sale only to end up weeping for my lost game wife :(
Still no Random Map Generator? Sorry, too much used to The Settlers 1 and RMG is essential for me, because for me, The Settlers is not about pre-made maps.
I loved the Mystery feel when you 1st play the old once too.
Settling on a shore not knowing anything of where you are and slowly extending your borders and exploring more. and only got or are about to get a good economy up and running do you meet your 1st mysterious opponent.
This is literally 10% of what needed to be changed for it to be somewhat enjoyable. I'll pass. Shame that a franchise like this has gotten this far from its roots and is clearly not doing well.
Volker Wertich is now releasing his own real settler: Pioneers of Pagonia
The early access for this starts in 4Q 2023. That could then be the settler that we were hoping for.
This is good to hear
Ah, 4th quarter is near. Good.
ubisoft: let's make an anti settlers....and let's actively work against core values of the IP
hope embracer group will pick up you guys up for cheap, so we get a real settlers again in 5-6 years
I'm having the feeling that ubisoft saw microsoft age of empires and said. Lets butcher settlers original idea and just make a multiplayer game
It was dsigned to be multiplayer from the beginning. Just like Settlers 3 and 4 were.
I personally hated the settler 7 as there was no much interaction with military units. I liked playing with AI for all other settlers 1-6.
With Military being control by you gives the user the full experience of Economy they have handled.
Military superiority shows economic power of a nation or how well you are at the economy.
Or sell the IP to someone who knows what The Settlers is.
Second part is my favorit! Sometimes i still play it.
Three months before release of a SETTLERS-game: "This will open the door to a deeper economy experience :)"
THE WHOLE IDENTITY OF THE SERIES IS DEEP ECONOMY EXPERIENCE.
It's like building call of duty and adding headshot or ADS in the final months of the game to "open the door to a deeper shooter experience".
Tried to explain that food wasn't needed anymore and how thats a good thing, even though that breaks the game
Added in the forester hut, as if they didn't know that with out it the game was broken.....
This isn't settlers...
The deep economy they are referring to is probably the in-game shop.
We don't want to battle other players.. We want settlers!
There is nothing wrong in battling other players. It was a cool in Settlers 3 and 4. But still, military aspect needed the huge support from economy and that was a good challenging game.

no stop this nonsense please settlers never was a simcity or cities skylines please boot up old games and fix your memories :D
No it hasn’t Wth it was originally pvp it was way better I still have some of the original games that got me into playing RTS pvp games
I Hope, that sounds dope af.
u can't, nop, never, this game is rip...you better look at Manor Lord =)
You could build the walls in 2018/2019 version. Now its cut (:

Calling that door a vault door is a huge understatement.

Settlers 7 is the best game for me and I was eager to experience that again with this game but sadly not. Hope you will make an economy mode as well!
Settlers 3 and 4 were best. Every game after that ruined the game bit by bit. This newest one is just a big f*ck you to the fans of the franchise.

Has anyone there actually played Settlers 1-4, Anniversary etc? Because that is the sort of game that we want. The one that was promised to us a couple of years ago. This still doesnt look good enough! Where did all that work go? Why was it changed? Why are you not listening to the players who will buy the game? Settlers 3 are great, but actually I am waiting more than 25 years for a spiritual successor of Settlers 2 - It is the best game of the series to date. And Ubisoft is unable to create it.
If only it had speed controls.
@@CouchCoach "fighting game with little to no building and economy"
Well, they also simplified almost every production chain afterwards. What they showed us in earlier videos was more complex than whatever they present us now.
No one wanted that, they wanted more of the gameplay from original Settlers.
Walls? No thanks. When old players say we want old Settlers we mean 1-4.
@@aseitic494 Walls would be a cool addition to the game. In general 2018/2019 version of the game would satisfy everyone. People who like to win economically, military or both combined. Right now its like a Star Craft.
I really like Settlers. Guys, let us face it. You have no idea what you are doing :). Make a game, call it whatever you want. It is not Settlers.
I think Age of Settlers would be a good name. 😅
I miss the Ubisoft of old. Creation, inspiration, innovation, it's all gone.
Perhaps for a good reason, at least now we know what this company does NOT stand for anymore.
"at least now we know"
are you frozen in time or what?
those features had to be requested ? ? ? lol
those are the basics of a game like this
I am really hoping this game will tie me up for more than few dozen hours without getting frustrated over lack of things that were in the original on Amiga 😉
Absolutely right!
WTF. You still haven't understood what "Die Siedler" is. Failed, start from the beginning.
I was going to pre order that, thank god i watched the video first. Thank you Ubi you saved me some money!!
Wow, Load & Save function - how amazing ;)
It does look gorgeous but it seems to be more PvP oriented and simplified.
And keybinds!!!
Imagine making a game and NOT having custom keybinds in it and then showing it off when you do add it lmao

And you can teleport to the other side of the map when you're about to get PK'd by a griefer...!
This is not The Settlers!
I’m not keen on the fantasy stuff as well but not much you can do about that now
Costume Keybinds omg what a genius feature 😂

Moreover, you can save or even load the game

Now it is only a RTS like 1000 others, will be played 1 month before getting forgotten by thousands similar ones
Excuse me if I don't hold my breath in anticipation. The last good settler game was settlers 4 and it's been downhill from there.
i think there still hoping old fans will buy it based on the 2019 footage of which it seems nothing is left unless its part of the supposed campaign mode they have now, but i think its more likely the campaign is just like the multiplayer but with AI and a story.
This is a joke, first you tease us with 2019 version which had true potential, then postpone it couple of times saying you listened to testers, although forums had the answers you listened to someone else... and then bring out this rts mobile battle royale game. At least have the backbone to admit defeat and rename to something not Settlers...
Age of Settlers would be a good name for it i think.
Please rework the forester and make mines need food to work. The regrowing trees mechanic could be used as an area around the forester. Just remove the fence and remove the forester being able to harvest wood. And replace the regrowing trees with normal trees on the maps.
I can't watch this. Such a disgrace.
Yeah get the hell out here youtube dude
I'd like a Settlers game if you can find time please?
Why is the map hex based? Seems like the settlers is taking a step backwards every new releases
It already is
Dont think the devs call the shots on that im afraid, they worked there asses off for nothing =/
i have a feeling the 2019 version was the concept they took to Ubi and Ubi's response was probably but how do we make mo money then just from the game.
as that is how it often go's with games under a big publisher these days.
for me im calling this franchise dead. the only hope i have is from Ubisoft themselves struggling when trying to get sold/bought out.
So customizeable key bindings is a highlighted feature...thaaaankksss byyyeeee
This looks more like an Age of Empire spin off.
The Settlers has always been a city building game focusing on production, logistics and trade. The war and combat stuff was
a secondary affair and often comes in as a late game mechanic.
Customizable keybinds is something that devs are excited about in 2023... wow.
The bar is set very low indeed :D
Coming to steam or windows store? Or only ubisoft connect?
I have pre ordered the game last March. Still have not played it. Stop focusing on pvp. Go back to the original settlers feeling.
better to say this before already throwing money at them.
They didnt listen at all! Gimme romans, vikings, trojans and aztecs and devs go back to AOE with ur clone

Settlers: running through textures literally at 0:34
This should've been released with another name, but I quite like what I'm seeing. The thing is I bumped into it by accident, Ubisoft will probably kill it by lack of marketing.
Edit: I was thinking of getting it, but with no Steam release, this is a no-go for me.
Sounds like some good improvements but still a sad departure from what made settlers so magical
and the saddest part is that in 2019 it looked like they had found it. and now lost it again.

Everything in this video is standard functionality I already would expect...
