I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm actually getting a little bit choked up watching this video. I've been a homemaker for years, but my house has never been organized. Never. It's always been piles of stuff in closets and back rooms, and I always thought there was something wrong with me. I thought I was just too lazy to take care of my house. As I'm watching this video, I am only now realizing that the way everyone has been telling me to organize is just not how my brain is wired, and for the first time in a long time, I feel hopeful that things can be better in my home. So thank you.
Emily Sires I am right there with you! Well put, Emily 💜
Same with me
And me mxxx
exactly how I feel after watching this video!
Emily I agree...however to join not just being a subscriber I don't know if I can find her video's she puts our or how to unsubsidized I took test m think I am butterfly..
You're theory on organization is way better than konmari. No way one organization could work for everyone in the world. Genius.
sophiacstaley I laughed when I read konmari’s book. She hasn’t met me. She has a lot to learn about people.
I wonder if she’s realized that everyone isn’t like her yet.
Konmari helped me get rid of stuff... Clutterbug helped me organize what was left in a way that best suits my personality! Nobody cares but I feel better about my stuff!
I was gonna say the same thing exactly I agree hundred percent :)
Bridget Block completely agree....I got rid of stuff and now to apply my ladybug organizing skills.
KonMari isnt really a system of a whole home organization. It's more a mental framing for helping you get over the hurdle of declutter and recognizing what's causing you anxiety or dead weight. Notice how a lot of her systems are used for declutter, not organization. So trying to use it that way is just like trying to be the wrong Bug.
Also, culture barrier/upbringing. Japan is TIGHT AF on space and storage. They dont have nearly the space American-type homes do. Look at any Japanese apartments or content creators. They have a consistent tendency towards minimal stuff / a lot of clever space use.
(Note: I did watch I think her first season, and since watched declutter vids. Never really seen/used her folding systems outside that)
I have never thought of myself as a ladybug, but I AM! I love visual simplicity. I WANT detailed organizing systems, but I NEVER maintain them. Then everything just goes to crap. Lol. Thank you so much for this series. You’re doing a great job and I think a lot of us “get it”.
Same!! I would LOVE a detailed organization system but I just won't do it long term.
Me too…! My cricket side would repeatedly set up organizational systems that I could never maintain. Finally this makes sense.
Ladybug here! She nailed every single detail! It’s nice to hear that we’re not lazy, am I right? We beat ourselves up over the many forgotten/lost items, because we are discontent with the idea that it comes off irresponsible. The chaos behind closed doors is not intentional! We intend to organize it all..again..but only after the next 3 projects are finished! Am I right again? Amazing solutions she gave us here, my sisters living in secret chaos. Anyone who is a real ladybug will agree!
Meghan Glew Agree! 💜
Yep, I’m a ladybug. I knew there was a reason I always feel relaxed in hotel rooms. They’re so empty and organized. Aaaahhh, makes me able to relax. Love your style!
Amy Carlson
Me too!!
Yes!!!
Amy Carlson omg, I never thought about that with hotel rooms!! But that's it spot on!!
Oh my gosh, me too!!
I always wished my house was like a hotel room! Hotel rooms are the best!!
I listen to this and laugh out loud! It blows my mind that finally at 60 years old I feel understood! Thank you Cas!
Cass.... first of all... you are way too hard on yourself!!!! You are doing an amazing job explaining everything, and I am on your facebook group, and I have to say.. for every one person not getting it, four or five of us are... you can't make everyone happy!! You can try, my love, but it isn't going to happen! So just keep on keeping on and know that you are doing a great job!!!
Thank you Stephanie!
Wait, there’s a fb group?! I would love to be in this group!!
A Facebook group!? I need in on this! :D
I agree I would LOVE to be in the group!
How does one gain entry into said group?
I love your channel. One of the few I actually truly follow. I'm a lady bug true and true. I realized it when you explained that a lady bug is pretty on outside but underneath...aahh. That had me cracking up. I think lady bug - put away out of sight with easy storing. Cricket - put away with proper storage. Butterfly - out in open with easy storage. Bee - out in open with detailed storage. Hope I did you justice. Keep it coming, love it!!
Yes...Yes, so much yes...You nailed this...Exactly what I have been trying to say...Why must I overcomplicate everything?
ClutterBug you are awesome just the way you are! I couldn't have "gotten it", without the way you already explain it and not to mention...I wouldn't be paying this much attention if it were put another way. Thank you for a new closet, laundry room, and compliments over and over about our "cleaned and organized " home!
This series is the most brilliant thing I have ever related to when it comes to organizing! THANK YOU for describing all the bugs VERY clearly. I never knew why I had such trouble staying on top of organizing systems I so desperately wanted to implement... now my mind is blown and I am giving myself grace to be me and RE-macro organize my entire home. Love your channel. #LADYBUGSUNITE
Kelly Baum agree. I’m rethinking everything now. 😆 konmari look out! Cas is the big thing now.
"Grace to be me" - love it!
“We are not going to open a lid to put stuff back in!”
I love you! I get myself and my family members so much more. I love this so much!!!! ❤️❤️❤️🐞🐞🐞
Yes ❤️ I totally relate to this when I became a wife and Mother 😍
I totally get it. I'm a cricket when I have time, but will ladybug if I dont. 😂 I think your explanations are really good!
Yes! My fantasy self is a cricket, but most days I'm a ladybug 🐞
Where has this video been all my life?!!!!???
Hello! Jessica, how’re you doing?
This is me and I know now why I could never FILE properly. I just throw them in a pretty box. It works for me. But in the past I would beat myself up bc it seems dumb and lazy but it's so much better than all over the house in drawers...MANY DIFFERENT DRAWERS lol. Thanks Cas, bc of you and your books I feel better about myself!
I’m definitely a ladybug! 🐞 I took the quiz and it identified me as such, but I was still slightly skeptical. What really confirmed it to me was something you asked in one of your latest podcasts: What organizing system is working for you now? Listening to you explain what systems work for Ladybugs helped me realize that those are the only systems I’m currently able to maintain in my home. Just like actual ladybugs, we’re only going to walk for so long. Walking takes forever. We’re flying off to the next thing because we have to stretch our wings! And it’s much faster 😉
wow where is the quiz
As a ladybug, I do like clutter free and I like everything to have its place, but it doesn't have to be minutely so. Desk things go in my desk and my desk drawers are generally organized by different things, but I don't have to have a labelled spot for my scissors, another for my favorite pen, and another for my glue bottle like a chalk outline of a dead body. As long as the pens, glue, and scissors are in the draw where I've put all the small utensil-like items and not in a massive pile, I"m happy.
I love the peanut butter test! I'm very much a butterfly, but also a bee in some areas....or so I'm finding out through these videos. Which, by the way, thank you for putting out there! I always put the lids back on jars...and I even wipe around the threads of the jar with a wet paper towel if they get messy...like on a jar of honey...but that jar can easily sit on the counter for days before I even realize it's out of place. My husband is quite the opposite. In a perfect world for him, there would be no clutter anywhere. Sometimes I even have to get stuff out of the trashcan that I still use because he's thrown it away, seeing it as clutter. I've always been the "messy" one in the relationship and we both hoped that he would eventually rub off on me. 6 years later and nothing has changed. Another example for our differences is when we moved into our house. At the time he was taking classes for his real estate license, but he couldn't study with all the boxes in the house. I was so aggravated that he wasn't prioritizing things correctly because he was at home unpacking instead of studying so he could take his test. He postponed his test a month because he just couldn't handle seeing the boxes everywhere. He couldn't focus on studying or being productive in any other area except for those boxes. Meanwhile, when we moved, I cooked our first meal (breakfast) out of what I could find in the boxes. I found a skillet, but couldn't find the cooking utensils. What I did find was to-go utensils. I cooked bacon and over easy eggs (without popping the yolk) using a plastic spoon and plastic butter knife. As the weeks went on, I was very busy working two jobs and it dawned on me that I had a superpower. I'm able to fully function and be productive amidst utter chaos in my home. Throughout our marriage, I always admired my husband for his tidiness, but when he was faced with the challenge of mere boxes, it stopped him dead in his tracks and the only thing he could do was unpack and organize. Nothing else in his life existed until those boxes were gone. Now I am very grateful that he did all of that unpacking, because if it were up to me, we'd probably still have lots of boxes and we've been in our house over a year and a half. So now with these videos (and other videos you've posted) I'm learning that I actually am organized, but just very visual. And I completely relate with a bee in regards to waiting to organize until I have the time to do it right. My kitchen is the most organized place in my home, especially the cabinets, drawers, and pantry, but that's because I always take the time to set my kitchen up right so that it's functional for me since I do most of the cooking. So once again, THANK YOU for posting these videos. I think you're doing a great job explaining things and I'm really looking forward to the cricket video since I think that's what my husband is.
I think your explanations are really good! The areas that helped me the most 1) looking at 2 variable hidden or visible AND hyper organized (labeled/separated into micro-categories) or not 2) the example pictures help 3)the quiz was helpful 4) when you talk about behaviors it helps. For ex. I have clutter because I refuse to organize certain things until I have the perfect system - labeled with micro-categories, color-coded, I am a cricket. One idea: if you know some people for each category - do a video to interview each one and show pics of their best organization areas in their house
Great idea!!
Simply Neater YES! So much yes! Cass- Everytime you say someone doesn't get it all I can think is "come on people!" AND these videos with the pics of rooms that each bug would like makes it super clear.
also the example with the lids helped, I think :) I´m not entirely sure, but I might be a mixture of ladybug and criquet... because I would definitely screw the lid properly on the peanut butter :D and I think that if I took the time, I would like micro-organizing as well, but I don´t like lids on containers inside my drawers, etc. ... I´m too impatient for that and want to focus on more important things :) (maybe that´s another positive way to put what you tried to say?!) :) anyways, thank you!!!
@@Lysana7 That’s not impatience, that’s some time-saving skill right there!👍😋
You have explained it all perfectly for me! I had wondered for a while what me and my husband were. But after watching these I know that I'm a Ladybug and he's a Bee. Oh, and my 16 yo daughter is a butterfly. Love this series so much! It has helped me out a ton! One thing that drove my husband crazy was the little aluminum layer on things like sour cream. I would pull it half way off and leave it there and put the lid back on. He would ask why the heck I wouldn't pull it all off and toss it. 😂 And that darn peanut butter lid for sure. 🤣
Kristin's Chaotic Life I feel the same way... I'm a cricket and my husband a bee. Cass video help me so much to understand why he can't use my micro organisation 😉 now I simplified my organization system and my husband use it properly, and I feel so much better 😊
Kristin's Chaotic Life - I love this! I do the same thing with the foil lids and the example she gave of the peanut butter lid. Just more confirmation that I am a lady bug through and through!
Oh my goodness I’m laughing right now because I thought this was just a conversation between my husband and I! I’m a butterfly, and he’s a bee. Also, my name is Kristin too! 😂
My father does that with the aluminum layer!
Maybe it's not you. Maybe it's because people believe they're a this when they're really a that. I know when I took your quiz I got the exact opposite of what I thought I would. What?? I'm not creative or artistic. I'm practical! Then I walked around my house and got goosebumps as I saw all the open shelving and clear bins! 😂😂😂 So you must be articulating it well because I have been listening to you for years and it's obviously getting through 👊😘
I’m definitely a ladybug as well. I know part of me wants things micro organized, but the reality is I need something macro! It’s not lazy, it’s efficient! Also, when I try to mold into the micro organizing ways, I get completely overwhelmed and don’t do it at all! Better to be efficient and be done with it! Love all your videos, podcasts and books! You’re awesome!
I took your test and it said I'm a ladybug. This video definitely described me. When you showed the more cluttered (er... visually stimulating?) craft rooms I cringed a bit. :) I love my home being cozy and having things out that I love but only a few well-chosen pieces in each area. Otherwise, I want it organized and away. I really like the smaller plastic drawers. I put a bunch of them in my activity closet (games, crafts, etc.) and it works so well! I can easily toss the markers into one labeled drawer, tape into another, stationery into a third, etc. It's all labeled and simply to do. I shut the closet door and it looks beautiful!
I think it's less about being lazy and more about being efficient! I don't want to waste my time on meticulously putting away something into an absolutely perfect spot. It's unnecessary. I'd rather just do it quickly and move on to doing something else i enjoy more.
But I do put the lid all the way back on the peanut butter jar.
Uh-oh.
It's still sitting on the counter, though...
Rebecca 😉
Well said!
OMG! I was quiet the opposite! When she showed her craft room I was like “Where’s her stationery, where’s her stuffff??” Then she showed the visual stimulating space, then I calmed down!
But I always close the har and put it back.
Im a BEE! Im so happy to know about this. This is a step forward for us as a family as im able to understand them as well.
I never understood why Cass’ kitchen videos had no toaster or kettle on the kitchen tops. And would think that she’s not the advice I need( as there’s so many on TH-cam these days).
Today I can safely say YOU’RE THE ONE! Xx
Love being a Ladybug!!!❤️. It’s simple systems that gives us clear thinking, and as long as we know we can locate what we need, it does not matter how we put anything away. It’s a simple clean look that allows us to be comfortable. I do have a formal dining room where I love to entertain for dinners. It has the beautiful matching china cabinet, buffet, and table & chairs. It’s mostly the china cabinet that has an abundance of china, crystal, and porcelain items that are stunning, and it’s gorgeous and never want to be without it. The buffet doors and drawers contain other china patterns I use for different seasons, and lovely dining linens! The remainder of my home is where I live 99% of the time, and it is all clear simplistic surfaces that works to sooth me, with furniture that has doors and drawers that has containers with labels. Thank you, Cas!!!💕💕💕
Yep I’m a lady bug. No time to put that lid back on but GET IT OFF MY COUNTER OUT OF MY SIGHT
You nailed it! I discovered why I am good at setting up systems but fail in maintaining them - I am a ladybug and I was trying to be a cricket.
OMG 😂 I screw the lid on the peanut butter jar AND put it away even before eating!!! It would give me anxiety staring at it on the counter while trying to enjoy the sandwich 😱 I am a special kind of crazy 😁
Cricket! lol
This is me too! Ha!
That's my momma!
Momma is anal about clutter and swipes at phantom crumbs and picks phantom lint!
Lol! She doesn't give things time to settle!
Yep. Your a special kind or crazy like all of us in the cricket club 😉
That settles it, i am a ladybug! I take my sandwich elsewhere, eat it in peace, and clean up later.
I say work smarter, not harder! Butterflies n Ladybugs don't waste time on stuff that doesn't truly matter. They don't sweat the small stuff. Bflies n Lbugs are efficient time managers; we have to be cuz we get too easily distracted! 😂😈😂 Words of wisdom from a Butterfly that oddly enuf screws caps back on.
Detailed organizing is enjoyable work for us crickets and bees--not a waste of time. But as I age and have more children, I agree that organizing is just one more chore to do. I'm simplifying and purging.
I love the IDEA of micro- organisation, but I KNOW I will never do it. IRL it takes too long and is too much trouble. I have other things to do. Lots of other things! I will put the lid back on the pnb, (probably) but I won't always put it away. 🐞💕
I took the test several times changing my answers on the ones I found were a toss up and I still ended up with the same result. I'm a cricket living with a lady bug and two butterflies. Thank you for your help finding what works for our family.
I'm a ladybug for sure. Thanks so much for coming up with these categories. I keep investing in complicated organizing systems that never work out for me, and now I know why!
I always thought I was being lazy, but then I realized I was just super efficient. I bet most ladybugs are efficient multi-taskers.
Hello! Alissa, how are you doing ?
I think I'm ladybug/cricket
I think your explanations are wonderful! The confusion is because so many of us can be a little bit of two types of bugs! So, we have to figure out the overriding need within ourselves first for abundance versus simplicity and then ease of organising versus meticulous detail! I guess those are the main two features right?
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your systems!! Thank you so much for sharing! Realizing I'm a lady bug has helped me to stop feeling like a terrible slob/lazy/terrible housekeeper to feeling like I CAN get control!!! =-) Thanks so much!
I am a very neat lady bug. Even with some organizing systems already in place in my home, your videos have helped me so much. I hate folding and have always used bins for socks and yoga pants, etc. My husband is a butterfly. He just won't put things away if there is a top on a bin (to save his life.) I've changed out a few systems to work better for him. Now, I have a more peaceful and clutter free home. Thank you so much!
Wow, I'm so glad the Clutterbug types have helped you! :)
Yay finally organizing tips and ideas for me! For 2 years I had my daughters medical supplies in the cardboard boxes they came in. Now I have a shelf with bins. Everything is organized easy to reach and putting away a new delivery of items is a breeze! Thanks Cass!
I am SUCH a ladybug. Your channel has been transforming my life over the past few weeks. I'm so grateful I found your channel. Thank you infinitely!
I can’t wait to start my LadyBug organizing system! Thank you, thank you, thank you for helping me discover the differences. I’ve been a LadyBug in another bugs garden, no wonder I’m not thriving!!!
Hello, I took the quiz and I am a ladybug now. I think when I was alone with no kids and husband I was cricket. I want to be tidy and don’t have a lot of clutter on my furnitures. With two kids now I want just to put things away. I don’t have the energy to sort everything in micro parts, may be only the stuffs that are mine. For example my kids toys-for 2 min its all the same, it’s not worth the effort. I throw everything in baskets and put the lid. Thank you for the tips I like your show on HGTV. Keep doing the things your do, you are so positive and charming. :)
Umm. Efficient? Doing as little as possible to get the level of satisfaction that we need.
thank you, i started a couple of years ago to use open boxes and baskets in cupboard as i found them so pretty and easy to use, i didn't know why. Your explaination really clarified my organisation skills and when i mentioned it to me 21 year old daughter she was so excieted. she said it you perfectly described my organisational habits. What a relief to know to understand why this works for me and why I lovw buying baskets and boxes so much fun and I don't feel guilty anymore about not using the lids!!! finnally i feel at home with the level of organisation that i have. Now to organise my travel craft bag and easy to open when using but still stay closed when actual on the move!!
Can I just say this was an absolute break thru for me? This is exactly how I am!!!! I'm really looking forward to implementing some of your ideas!!!!! Thank you! I feel so much better about myself 😁
This is so life changing. I can't believe how obvious it sounds now. You are a life saver XOXO
Thanks for your great tips! I am a Butterfly and my husband is a Ladybug. From everything you’ve said, it seems like we will both highly benefit from easy, quick organization systems once we implement them better.
This video was so helpful. I am a ladybug and never knew it. I feel liberated. Also, you are a breath of fresh air. Thank you so much for your time.
Thank you for explaining this! I know I'm a LadyBug! I want cabinets and drawers in my closet so my closet looks visually simplified as well ha!
Inspired by Nikki I’m a ladybug too! I’m in awe of your beautiful house and style ♥️
I can barely even use a closet. I hate hanging my clothes. I rather open my armoire and toss the clothes in, then shut the doors....
I love how you explain the types of “bugs!” It makes so much sense to me! I’m learning so much about myself!
Cas, your craft room is gorgeous. I wish you lived closer so you could help me organize my tiny space.
Oh my god! ! This is me! Makes so much sense. I like visual space because it helps me have mental clarity. And I think I like macro organising because I don't want to spend my time at home doing chores or non-fun things. That's what work is for. I want simple, easy, easy to clean and maintain systems that free up my mind and my time. When you said 'macro organising' I swear a light bulb went off in my head. This is what I do, but I didn't know it had a name! ! Much love xxxxxxx
I don't think that it's so much as lazy but just thinking about the next thing that we're going to do and we kind of just don't finish what we were doing to start with. Does that make sense? Hope it helps!
Fangirled so hard when I saw you liked my comment then highlighted it! Even if it's just until a better comment comes along... You've made my night! Thanks!
Oh my goodness you are so amazing. I've run across your TH-cam videos on so many occasions. I just found this clutterbug breakdown. I took the test and was not fitting into any bug catagory! Then. Then.....then I heard the lady bug organizer!!!! Described me to perfection! As I walk through my home I can tell if anything at all has been slightly moved or removed. If I do ever sit down, I can't relax until everything in the room is a visually perfect. I constantly have decorating projects swirling in my head that I can't get rid of i til I complete the project! My brain does not connect with organizing tiny compartments or comp!ex systems. i am anything but lazy and it's not unusual to complete a two hour project before my ten hours work day! My drawers and closets are war zones. But I'm working so hard at getting better and I'm so glad I found you. You are adorable !!! I now do not feel so bad about myself.
I think you've explained it perfectly. I am a ladybug. I like order, but I'm not obsessive about it. Good enough means I can find my keys, and my purse, I know when I'm running out of something, but I'm NOT going to get a label maker and alphabetize my spice rack. I have a spice rack (hidden in a cabinet) -- that's enough organizing effort.
So maybe instead of lazy -- how about "adaptable?" I can even give you an example - last weekend a family friend we hadn't seen in 10 years came to town. She, my mother and I had specific plans (my house for lunch, then off for a driving tour of the area). My mom was getting over a bad cold, and while our intentions were great, by the time lunch was over, Mom had decided she wasn't up to the tour. Did I get upset we didn't leave the house (so my husband could clean the kitchen --no dishwasher-- while we were gone) -- no way. We cleared the table and talked and drank coffee and wine most of the afternoon. And when we decided we had sat at the dining table long enough, we walked past the piles of dirty dishes and went to the living room. Someone suggested games, so I pointed to a cabinet that holds games (and cables and movies and old remotes) but games were easy to find. A complete day of fun was had -- I'm a ladybug -- a cricket would have had everyone washing and drying, while she put it away in exactly the right spot. As a ladybug, I waited until my company left, then cranked the music and my husband and I did the dishes.
I get it glad someone's finally sharing nor everyone cleans and organizes the same. You did a great job explaining
What about MOVING as a test.
I'm guessing bees and crickets would label each box specifically with what is inside. Not just kitchen. Not just pans. But black metal pans. Very specific. Bees and butterflies would prefer to have color coded stickers or table. Ladybugs would have "master bedroom" on the label. Crickets master bedroom and nightstand "HIS" . A Bee would add a colored label or sticker. A butterfly would be ok with master bedroom and/or a colored sticker.
Bees and butterflies would wait until the last minute to pack so they visually know where everything is.
Crickets and ladybugs would have the closets and things in hidden areas packed up earlier.
Your thoughts?
Sounds right!
I feel like your abundance/simplicity and micro/macro is brilliant. As a ladybug, I don’t file. I loved your video about stacking the papers. I say complex filing doesn’t add value for me. In fact, I have a two drawer filing cabinet that is empty! I don’t like making decisions about where things go because I’m worried I’ll forget do having the fewest number of places to look for things works for me.
I'm pretty sure I'm a butterfly but I'm so glad you brought up moving... the anxiety of not being able to SEE what was already packed drives me nuts and eventually after much panic and frustration I always resort to tossing everything together and leaving the tops open. I hate moving.
tornfeather1 I'm more of a bee. I can't put the tape on until I'm sure that everything in the category is in that box...unless it's the day of the move. Then boxes say the room (with a colored sticker) AND "random" . I also come up with a scheme for how the movers should stack the boxes in groups, make a map (color coded), post signs, and then writhe in agony as they completely ignore me lol
LadybeetleSolomon - this is ME! I made a map and signs on every door and coded every box. The movers did a great job, tho, and dutifully deposited each box in it's designated room.
To comment on your end of video chat, I think you have been explaining the categories very clearly! You definetly do not “suck” at it.
Remember a PUNNETT SQUARE? That’s how you should show the differences. It’s easy to understand when in a diagram of four squares. We all learned Punnett Squares in like third grade!! the outside of the square should be the stuff/no stuff, micro/macro and the bugs inside the boxes. Love your system, Cass!
Yes!!
Good idea! 😀😃👍😎 Yes, run with the visual models Cass!! I was thinking of a Venn Diagram myself. 😉😊
So you are a visual learner...a bee?
I think you've done a fantastic job explaining the different styles of people. I'm 100% a lady bug! And I didnt even realize what I was until this series...thanks so much.
I was confused until I took the test you have to see which bug you are. As a ladybug I crave things to be organized, and visually clutter free, but tend to shove things in drawers, closets, the garage (which my hubby doesn't care too much for) lol. I think if people take just a minute and take the quiz on which clutter bug are you it clicks. It did for me. Love your book, too! The peanut butter test is good, too! lol Chuck it I do!
Dont give yourself a harsh time, I think you did a marvelous job explaining everything!
I got your new book. Love all the work book pages. Im a butterfly. My house is a tornado of a mess and my life. I daydream of being this wonderful organized person but just cant seem to get there. And im so glad i have your book and these videos to help me cause i feel very overwhelmed.
I totally get you!!! I, too, am a butterfly & my clutter drives me CRAZY!
Slowly, but surely, I’m tossing & organizing. Now, though, I’ll simplify my organizing style so it will actually WORK for me, rather than leaving my mess out because putting it away is too complicated and/or burdensome!!!
Don't be so hard on yourself, you've explained it perfectly. I had my a-ha moment when you said something about having small kitchen appliances on the counter. I like the simple look of kitchens with everything in cabinets but this butterfly has the toaster, crock pot, and blender on the counter at all times. Thanks for all you do!
Thank you SO MUCH! Never could figure out why I couldn't keep my house organized. It was clean but I have a junk room, but no more!
We Ladybugs r not lazy. We r just efficient. We want something fast, easy, and organized... Simplicity and efficiency is how we thrive! Love this series n u r doing a fantastic job explaining. (Btw half my house is super organized bc of dollar store bins n ur videos so thank you so much! The open bins I can do!)
A bin for the year! *forehead slap* Sooo simple. Thank you.
Your explanations do make sense to me as well!!! I think where people are confused is that just like your personality type can be fluid and change, so can your organization style! You just have to find the main tenants of the style that you gravitate towards, and using your main tips and tricks people can personalize depending on the subdominant styles as well! When I was younger, I definitely would have called myself a butterfly, but as I've gotten older and lived with and without roommates throughout college and grad school, my style has definitely changed to a ladybug where I like to have a visually simplistic place and need to have a home for all of my clutter, otherwise I get stressed out by the overstimulation. But I'm also not ashamed even in my ladybugness to tell guests in my home that I LIVE there and if a few things aren't put away because I'm living life than so be it. Thank you for sharing your professional organization strategies for the world, and when I spring clean later this week after returning from spring break I'm definitely going to buy some drawer organizers and more pretty baskets to spend some time macro organizing!
I think for the Ladybug and Butterfly it's more of a "good enough is good enough", which is why we're far more likely to hide clutter or toss something at the garbage can and if it doesn't make it: "meh, I'll get it later".
Whereas Crickets and Bees want to do it "properly or no way at all", which is why they pile things until they can set up that perfect system.
100% agree I'm a cricket although I wait till I'm ready to throw the garbage out then pick up all the papers that didn't make it then, depends on what the garbage is. Definitely not with kitchen garbage.
Nicole Tracy yes...so much yes. And Bees and Butterflies are visual, while Ladybugs and Crickets are hidden
Your channel has CHANGED MY LIFE!!! THANK YOU!!! I came across your channel while off sick, binge watching TH-cam videos. I started this weekend de-cluttering (it's a bigger challenge than I thought, but I am determined!), and went and bought storage boxes - lots of storage boxes!! I am most definitely a Ladybug...and your videos have taught me what NOTHING ELSE has worked that i've tried before to organise my home. I just wish we had more options for boxes in South Africa. Thanks Cas xxx
I think some people are in denial about what they are and what they would like to be!
I've realised I'm a different bug depending on which room but sometimes what I like and what works for me aren't the same- for example I think I'm ladybug in my bedroom as it's good to have a simple area to sleep and relax but obviously you need things like clothes in there so I shove them all away! Where as my craft room I think I'm a bee, I have to be able to see everything so I know what I have and give me ideas, keep productive but I'm too lazy to be butterfly lol. I'd love to be a ladybug in there too so it looked nicer but it just wouldn't work for me and I'd never find anything.
You just described me to the T! I can't stand filing and the more detailed a spreadsheet is, the more stress it's going to give me. THANK YOU!😊 I've always felt like there was something wrong with me----laziness, procrastination, ignorance. People come to my house and think I have it all together, and I'm like, you have no idea what's behind those doors!!
Ur intro music makes me happy
Meriem Ali me too 😀😄😄
I've always loved the intro music and the swirling colors. Sherry Ruddell
Meriem Ali yes! My baby dances to it too!
The combo of the music and visual effects are the Best! 💜
As a Butterfly/wannaBee, I completely agree with the idea that persons who need easy storage solutions are not lazy - we are just super efficient when it comes to how we use our time. We have to be, there are so many things to learn and fun activities to experience! Why would I take the time to put a pot, favorite cup, condiments, you name it - away after every time I’ve used them, when I use them every day - often more than once? Not gonna happen. I’ve got better things to do!!! Thamks so much for keeping it real:)
I took the peanut butter test. I close the lid tight and put it back in the pantry. So, I'm not a ladybug, does it make me a cricket? I guess the best way to explain is through a flow chart method. You did great with: are you a person that likes stuff or keep it simple? From there, you divide the categories. If you ask the question in a way where you get a close ended answer it easy to either move forward or backwards. If you ask an open ended question, then you stay getting the more complex or combination folks, like me. It depends on the questions. Tell us how do you deal with a combo bug. Great stuff, sounds like book #3. what bug are and which is your organizing routine?????
I wondered if I was really a ladybug. YES. I am. I feel so much better about myself. Thank you for sharing your ideas. It is making such a huge difference in my life. ❤️
I am having a hard time determining which one I am. I first thought butterfly. Then I watched some of the videos from Alejandra and thought, no I must be a bee. Now I think I could be a ladybug. I am for sure one of the ones that is not getting it, but I'm really enjoying your videos!
Jinny De Luca did you take the quiz?
Yes. I did. I either found that I had multiple answers that applied to a particular question, or I would have answered a question entirely differently and my response was not a choice.
I think reading her first book helped me sort things out the best. :) I’m a lady bug butterfly mix lol
I feel the same!! My result was ladybug and I do think that I am in a lot of ways, however I tighten the peanut butter jar and leave it out. I get stressed about messes that my kids and husband make, yet don't feel as inclined to clean up after myself. What does that mean?? Lol Maybe bc I'm already overwhelmed so I ignore my problems and focus on making sure everyone else in my family is functioning? Idk!!! Haha
I seriously love you! I’m a butterfly with bee tendiences and my mom is a ladybug. 😳 It’s not that youre are lazy as much as you are eager to move on to the next thing. Its kinda like a box of chocolates: if you’re visual you want to buy them from the store where you can see what you’re buying. If youre like a lady bug- you want them in a container where you can quickly get them outta the way, or if you’re a butterfly you want the chocolate everywhere so you can nom on it when you please :)
After I read your book and found out I was a ladybug, I took all the lids off my containers and now I stay more organized. I just wish I had cabinets in my craft room that had doors. Unfortunately, I don’t have it so I make do with shelves and containers on the shelves. Not perfect but better!
Becky Hopper fabric window curtains in front of containers? :)
Ahhhhhh this video is life changing. I've learned about myself recently that if it has a home, it goes back in its place, which is why I can handle laundry really well because everything has a home. But other things I struggle so much with and the laundry is what helped me realize "give everything a permanent and itll go back home"
I have your book, and have carefully read it. But, I need to reread because I thought I was a lady bug....but now I think I am not. I like stuff. Decorative stuff. Neatly arranged decorative stuff. But! My closets and drawers and anywhere else I can shove are full. Really full and junky. Organized by category, but junky. But....I put the jar on the peanut butter correctly...always...and put it in the closet. Oh good Grief. What bug am I? Maybe a roach....cuz I hide (stuff)....maybe a cicada...I only clean out once every so many years....maybe a stink bug....cuz I make a big stink when someone criticizes me. Lol. Oh my. Back to the book, I guess. Thanks for trying to figure us out and help us to become better. ❤️
Cynthia I also enjoy decorating.. I love it so much but I find myself very overwhelmed with too much.. if that makes sense? I also hide everything... baskets all around my home so things are organized but a mess 😂 I also stress out about keeping a clean appearance.. I always just thought I was crazy.. good to know I’m not alone! ❤️
Could you be a cricket without a system in place?
Well done! I think that we are related...
I'm very similar (also typed Ladybug). My personal opinion is that I'm a Ladybug in that I would rather spend time arranging my pretty decor so it looks organized than actually organizing my clean laundry. As one other commenter said here, I also have limits on how much decor I can handle before I think it looks disorganized (and I throw it into a box in my closet). The thing that sold me on being a Ladybug was that I had organized my bedroom right before reading the book and all my new organizing systems were very Ladybug - a box without a lid, holding 1 category of items haphazardly thrown in, inside a cabinet or drawer. My mom had tried to convince me to buy a box with a lid and I had told her that it was just too much work to take the lid on and off to put something away. :) I'm just a Ladybug who likes looking at china shepherdesses.
Yes, there is a difference between what we want to be, what we can be, and what we are. Thank you for offering me the opportunity to understand myself better, and help me help myself! I am a ladybug, with a few cricket tendencies! 🐞🦗
Just got your book. Missed the deadline for the Roomba. Oh well 🤷🏼♀️
I was reaLLLy hoping for preferential treatment for ladybugs since you are one. Haha. Love this bug series. 🐞
I think you are doing a great job explaining it all. I realized my daughter is a total butterfly and have been getting after her for not putting away all her little treasures that in my eyes is total visual clutter.
This series is really helpful! Love love love it 💕
I was wondering whether I’m a cricket or ladybug when I saw the first video and now I feel like I’m in between both but lean more towards the ladybug in some things or a cricket in others. As you said no one said we can only belong to one !
I have been stashing my drawers and intending to buy organizers but didn’t know where to start but not anymore!
I am a bit of both bugs too:)
Thank you for finally breaking these styles down! And thanks for making it ok to not be a micro organizer. I am 51 years old and never found systems that work for me. I thought I was lazy. Have you ever thought of franchising your systems? There are so many ppl this could help!
Ha ha ha ha ha.. you're the best! I'm a cricket... and after the peanut butter test... I can 1000% confirm it...lol
Becky SaumierHood Me too. It made me anxious just thinking about not putting the lid on properly. 😂
Maybe we’re on the same wavelength because I’m also a ladybug...but I think you articulate the different types clearly. I love your positivity and enthusiasm. Great job!
For me, I think it comes down to when you physically feel your body relax. If you go to someone's house or an office or something, if the place was 'cluttered' in an organised way with pretty things, would you physically feel nice there? Or even though its organised, would you still feel slightly closed in and unable to fully physically relax?
I’m bawling! I have never felt so validated in my entire life. Thank you!!!!!
Think I’m a ladybug for things I’m not interested ( papers/ office ect) in and a cricket for things i love (crafts and kitchen)
Same! When it comes to things I love, like my crafts, books, movies, etc, I can spend hours categorizing and organizing things.... but other stuff just gets tossed in a drawer or a huge storage bin!
tyrroo yes! Exactly!
I like that explanation. I feel that way too
You nailed exactly what I was trying to figure out about myself! This explains so much.
That has nailed it - couldn’t work out why I was a bit ladybug and a bit bee - love sorting and seeing stuff I like but would rather shove/hide/dump normal everyday stuff
LOVE THIS!! I AM DEFINITELY A LADY BUG! THANK YOU FOR BRINGING AWARENESS TO THE DIFFERENT ORGANIZATION STYLES. I HAD A HARD TIME ORGANIZING BECAUSE EVERYTHING I SAW WAS LIKE FOR A BUTTERFLY AND THAT JUST ISN'T ME! YOU HAVE BROUGHT SO MUCH SENSE TO UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENCES OUT THERE AND I LOVE THAT!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! IT HAS HELPED ME SO MUCH!!
yay! I am a ladybug, too!
Yep I’m a ladybug! I have a two story house in Florida with zero storage. My public space is very organized but the bedrooms are a mesh, goals! I have a profoundly disabled daughter do my time is so limited. Your channel encourages me! Keep going❤️
Yes with the peanut butter!!!! (And everything else lol) aint nobody got time to close it all the way but it better be picked up and put back!!!! XD
I am a ladybug like you :) 💕now I know why I always watch your videos thank you so much your videos are the best!
I'm a ladybug, great video! :)
Love the peanut butter test. I leave the jar open on the counter so that I can have more later. When I am completely done I have probably forgotten and then there is an open jar of peanut butter on the counter. When it’s time to use the counter for something else, I will screw the lid back on, all the way, and put (shove) it back in the fridge.
Often my husband will come behind me, see the peanut butter out, and put it away. The same guy who used to leave a week’s worth of dirty socks on the bathroom floor. Go figure?
Great content. Thank you. 🌸
So butterflies and bees like to see their stuff, and ladybugs and crickets like to hide things. But butterflies and ladybugs are more relax about the organization as they don't need everything organized to the t, but bees and crickets need to organized everything super organized. For example butterflies and ladybugs will put the buttons on their craft rooms on a box, but the bees and the crickets will have to color code? Am I getting your ideas correctly?
Nilda M. Bonilla so much yes. You got it nailed!
Nilda M. Bonilla U explained it perfectly
Yes you got it. But then another step is, are you more of a person that needs a lil bit of visual abundance or more of a person that needs minimal visual. After watching tons of your videos, Cass, I think I’m a ladyfly or a butterbug hahah I am def on a scale of a lil bit more visual macro .org when organizing my craft room and maybe home decor in living room but the rest of it I’m def a ladybug. Hope that makes sense.
@@amiablecrafter I would so agree - I am totally a ROYGBIV girl when it comes to my craft supplies, but the rest ladybug!
@@amiablecrafter I've been so torn, I thought I was going crazy being both a ladybug and a butterfly. I think it depends on the room for me. Still learning!
Oh, my gosh! Finally! I'm a ladybug. That explains so much.🤓 Your advice on papers are my life saver. My Dad is a cricket and he was the one helping me to learn how to organize and clean up, but even then I always felt like a failure 'cause it just took me a few hours to get everything in chaos again. Now, with my own home, I still struggle with a few things and after watching your video I finally understand why. Thank you sooo much.😍❤❤💐 It is not that we ladybugs are lazy, I for instance just like to invest my time in other things I value more, instead of putting everything neatly back in their itsy bitsy containers. I just don't have the time and being so meticulously, does not bring me joy or purpose. My father on the other hand loves his little boxes, containers and filers, you can always see it on his happy face. 😄
I can't wait to see the cricket video
I have to say thank you!!!! Your videos are helping me so much! Knowing what type of organizer I am makes life so much easier! I followed your tips and organized my makeup/filming area and I’m so happy with it! Everything feels and flows better! Everything has its place now, and I found everything I needed at the dollar tree!
I still have the rest of my house to work on, but at least now I don’t feel lost and overwhelmed! Again, thank you so much for what you do!!!
Holy Cr*p! I was not quite sure where I fit in until I saw Ladybug. But now I’m certain! And that Joe is a genius! Does he know his wife, or what?! The peanut butter sealed the deal. You, my friend, are my clutter twin!! One question- My fantasy self LOVES a schedule (Monday vacuum, Tuesday dust, etc) but I can’t stick to one to save. My. Life. How do you stick to that?
Nope...nada. I can stick to my morning and nighttime routine..because I FORCED myself too. But I cannot stick to a regular cleaning schedule AT ALL. That is why I love speed cleaning. Zone or Day cleaning is just too rigid for me.
Wow, me too! Thinking it's about time I give up on the Fantasy Me 😁
ClutterBug Thanks for permission to not be a Flybaby. I have tried for years, thinking that something was wrong with me. I appreciate your help, routines and speed cleaning! 💜 Blessings to you
Thanks for posting that question!! I to spend way too much time on the fantasy gal I want to be. Cass thanks for mentioning day and night routine b/c without knowing that’s what has helped me, I have a day schedule hanging on inside of med cabinet and have never been able to successfully follow . I always follow day/evening routine. Awwww I can breathe... I doing good for the most part
OceanGirl me too. I tried to be a flybaby, but I always fizzle out in the end. It's just too complicated for me and too detailed. I love clutterbug because I feel like (Me with 4 homeschooled kids) she gets the struggle of trying to be a clean person but our brains don't naturally want to be.
I LOVE your husband's peanut butter test! I am totally a cricket, but I live with a family who can't cope with with the level of organization I need. I won't name names, but I have at least one ladybug in the house who gives the lid a half twist, but makes sure to put the jar away. But then we have the one who loses the lid completely, one who makes an unholy mess all over the jar but absolutely must screw the lid all the way on, and one who must put the jar in the cupboard - even if it doesn't have a lid anymore! Clearly, we are dealing with a mix of organizing types :)
Haha, that is a full spectrum!!
Well, thank you for creating a category for me! I am SO a Ladybug! However, I'm not sure which category this falls into, but I have an aversion to putting away items that I use daily or even multiple times per day. I hate to see my lotion and medicine bottles sitting on my bedside table, but I've discovered that I will forget to use them if I stuff them in a drawer. Then, a week later, I'm wondering why my blood pressure is sky high when I've forgotten to take my pills. Do you have any suggestions for storing those kind of items in a pretty but convenient way?
I have to leave my pills out too...it's a bummer, but it has to be done! Sometimes we just have to forgo the pretty for function!
If it is a pill you need to take...I set an alarm on my phone. Only need to do that once! Label with the medicine name. I set most alarms to remind/ nag at least 3 times, so I can "snooze" it if I am seriously distracted.
Then I have little easy to open container in my pocket. Handy & no visual clutter.
And...try pretty bottles for things like lotion, if you need pretty. Ask a cricket for help?
@@karengerber8390 Thank you!
I’m a ladybug!!! You hit the nail on the head. I feel so liberated now that I know what I am!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!
Awe, I'm so glad knowing your type helps! :)
