I knew that impasto was when a paining had thick paint and visible brushstrokes, but I hadn't really given all the applications of that style much thought. Like in my head impasto paintings looked emotive and sorta simplistic, while sfumato paintings looked realistic and almost ethereal. I only really took art in high school so we didn't get to cover these things very thoroughly, I digress. The point is that I really appreciate that you not only explained the term but showed- and explained- how impasto paintings can look all kinds of ways and have all kinds of visual effects on a painting.
