the biggest thing i ever caught when i was a kid, 60 years ago, were ragworm and lugworm, at the Black Middens in Northumberland :). No books on sea fishing in those days ! It never put me off... fishing at Amble, Blyth, North Shiels, Beadnell, happy days though.Even made my own lead weights, melting lead in the confines of a small garage !!!!!!!!
Nice information there Chris. It would be good to see a bit about how you use those Gaper Clams. I've heard of them but not used them. Stay safe & well. 👍👍
Ya man that will be a very simple video to do aswell so I will do it this evening and can hopefully edit and post tomorrow. I'm hoping to get a good few videos done before Christmas to keep the channel momentum up
Cheers Chris. All your vids are fun and easy to watch and very informative! Would it be possible some way to see how bait and rigs are presented in the water? I was thinking of a gopro on the seabed and dropping a line in or something. That might be cool to watch and give a real example of rigs and bait in action. Get me? Keep up the excellent work mate!!
Ya that's a really good idea. I've tried to do it on a few occasions and it's very frustrating. What I've found so far is that the beaches with enough tide to show the bait throw up sand and ruin the video. Then places that dont throw up the sand just have the bait lying on the bottom like a bathtub or something lol
Hi Steve it turned out that the surf died completely off on the Sunday and I didn't need to use the clams at all. I don't bother with the siphon or foot part myself and treat it like the tail of a worm. Good news is the clams will last an age before dying so plenty time to get it done
Great video Chris. I've came across those clams when diffing for lug. Il take them home next time. Have you ever slated lug that we're left over? I've used them katked with salted mussel and they seem to attract the flounder.
To be honest I haven't ever bothered I can get lug fairly handy and am good with the pike so i use live almost all the time. I prefer my mussel with white wine 😂😂 but I might have to look into it
@@Inshore_Angler Just reread my comment. It looks like the work of a drunk man 😂. I had 0 alcohol. I meant salted lol. I've noticed they work well when dipped in to the mussel juice you told me knock back 😂. I found 6 of those clams today digging for lug. Il use them tomorrow evening at Valentia. I used to rebury them until I saw this video.
@@damienbrown2894 just be sure that the clams are alive when putting them in the bucket the smell off dead ones is brutal lol. I do a lot of deciphering of comments lol I often wonder is there beers involved
Hi tomas, it's hard to know the right answer there as some beaches fish better around low water and some do better when the tide is in. I find a lot of surf beaches tend to fish better over low water for me personally 2hrs down and 2 hrs up from low water. It's all about trying out places and times and trying not to get too disheartened if it doesn't go well
@@Inshore_Angler thanks Chris, will definitely go out and dig a few lb and try it out. This cod fishing is getting awfully expensive. Good luck in the match 👍
Hey Luke you can wear gloves on the beach if you wanted but I'm too clumsy and would just keep ripping them. I never tip with mack for bass but you could put a couple of maddies on with the lugs. Lug tipped with mack is very good for flats and whiting tho
@@Inshore_Angler yeah hi chris on my dads phone I had 35cm flounder on maddies where is the next comp after this weekend is it fenit? And loads of lads caught more fish for example you what bait and rig were you using 😁👍💪💪
@@philiphanafin9359 thats a fine flounder well done. 👍. I was using a 3 hook flapper with lugs and some maddies and some mackerel tips. Ya fenit is most likely the next one we are hoping to fish over Christmas too
Morning Chris just an idea if time. Let's say from day of digging how long will they stay fresh changing the water like that on the lug. Or do you try to dig as close as possible to using. Stay safe. Mate
That's a good question. If it's a bass session I like them as fresh as possible to be honest but generally mine tend to be 3 or 4 days old because of work getting in the way of full time fishing 😂. If you got them and minded them like they were your babies 10 in a tray you could definitely get 2 weeks or longer depending on your set up
@@Inshore_Angler thanks for the reply. That's good to know. So with care a week is achievable. Be giving that a go. Keep up the great videos. I hope your going to be filming when your in competition or is it too time consuming.
@@johnwyatt2316 I'd love to film a competition but it's just not possible if I want to be competitive. A clip here and there is fine but setting up camera angles and trying to actually stay in shot is very tiresome. One day I'll have a camera man lol

Will that must of been a great adventure. Fishing all them spots and exploring new ones you must of had some good fish and stories from them.
Nice one Chris great video as usual
About time you tidied that shed!
It's 10x times worse now man 😂 at least now though there is some fresh worm for the first time in months
Great vid Chris very helpful info 👍👍
Thanks for the comment worms can be very frustrating and way too expensive to be killing

1st on sat and 2nd on Sunday so it absolutely did 😁😁😁😁

Thanks for showing us this. Fair play to you man.
No worries man I figure it's us vs the fish 😂
Informative as always chris good job. I seen ur shed is as organised as mine lol
I think someone is coming in and wrecking all the cleaning I have done. It's the only explanation

Great info. I’ve always struggled with keeping bait myself. What size tray are you using there?
They are just small cat litter trays Lloyd. I think they are a pretty standard size they were about 1.49 eur each as far as I remember
