A morning of non-stop DOCKING and a night out at the Portsmouth Commodore Theatre!

  • Our 48 hours are up and it's time for our final leg until arriving at the Great Loop Rendezvous! We kick off from the Great Bridge Free Dock just prior to the Great Bridge Lock in Virginia before heading to get Fuel, Pumpout, and dock again at the downtown Portsmouth Free Dock! There's not much better than free docks in our opinion and we try to fit them in as much as we can!
    We wrap up our vlog as we visit the historic Commodore Theatre, which is a MUST-SEE in the area.
    Thanks for watching!
    Cheers from the Loop,
    Jennifer and Elliot

    ABOUT US
    Hi! We are high school sweethearts from Atlanta, Georgia who decided to take a year off to travel around the world. Together we decided to create vlogs for our journey as a fun way to remember it. On September 15, 2019, we left Atlanta with 3 bags, 2 one-way tickets, and 1 goal of traveling for a whole year. Little did we know, 6 months later we would find ourselves in a nationwide lockdown in India. After spending 5 months in India, we came back to the United States and decided to purchase a 34’ Trawler, dive headfirst into boat life, and kick-off America’s Great Loop.
    The good, the bad, the ugly - and most importantly, the real and real funny. We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.”, just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem.
    Thank you for following us along our journey!

    A wrap of black tape around the upper helm wheel is a handy and cheap way to mark the wheel to indicate a centered rudder.

I remember in a past video you had to clean up your prop and rudder

    The success you are having in docking and undocking directly relates to your great planning, communication and confidence in what you are doing. Your planning changes depending on weather condition and location and I believe your worry times can be reduced. Being cautious is a good thing and you guys nail this. Great to see you having a great time, usually hugs to Ollie. Aloha!

    My wife and I are following your journey as we also hope to be able to do the loop! We live in Wisconsin and would love to meet you when you come through Lake Michigan. I know that will be a bit from now but we just thought it would be good to give you the heads up. We are in easy driving distance of Green Bay, Sturgeon Bay, Manitowoc, Sheboygan or Milwaukee. Would be happy to meet you at any of those. If you’re up for it, let us know how we can connect with you to make plans as you get closer.

    Rudder indicator, rudder indicator, rudder indicator! They're cheap and easy to install, and it'll help reduce helm anxiety. It'll also keep your wake from looking like it was made by a drunken sailor. ;)

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So when i was getting our autopilot set up, it ideally should have shown a rudder indicator (since one is installed and connected but was never visible). I'd like to get that working before installing a new one... just need time 😁

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It took some time to get used to it for sure. The first time we were on the boat in the water, we attempted to wrap the line around the bow chocks instead of a cleat... if we can start there and get here then anyone can 😁

  • @johnwootton836

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are definitely ideal for locking and docking, I don't have the exact measurements but I think they are about a foot - 1.5 feet wide. We can walk comfortably around but not without putting one foot in front of another 😁

    Just a fabulous episode, guys🎉🎉🎉 Not having breakfast till noon is not that unusual......generally. I do it every day as I participate in what is called 'intermittent fasting,' which means no eating from 10pm (for me) till at minimum 10am the next day, usually 11:30- noon. It is very healthy way to maintain weight (or loose a couple of pounds) yet most importantly, it fires up your cell mitochondria (your energy factories) and keeps them healthy. As to Jo doing the docking, GREAT JOB‼️ see you next week. ✨🌊🌬🛥🌞✨
