How could you use this info for a fair area to go and use a metal detector? Obviously looking for stuff close to the surface.. already know about rye patch, but how do you know where would be a good area to go?
In these maps you are initially interested in how many are surface or placer deposits. Later you should consider lode or underground then look at downhill downstream regions with your metal detector. Areas just below the hill at the alluvial fan point will often be best. I make and analyze these gold maps using the procedure described in this report: Sourdoughminer.com/GGM/ check it out
I live in VC, NV. It's all deep, it's all hard rock mining. My 3 inch dredge or panning finds little color, but go into the "closed off hard rock mines", it's there you wish you were younger...
I have a patented lode gold mine in the spring valley mining district near Lovelock NV coming soon on the market. This is great. My owner mentioned pressure also from the Arctic makes Nevada so special right now.
In 2015, Nevada produced 73% of the total gold produced in the United States. Unfortunately most of that gold is Carlin style - micron. I live in and grew up in Vegas (which is not overrated - Reno people just love to hate Vegas) I go out into the desert to look for gold at old mines and use these maps too. I think those mines come up on the map because gold is usually secondary, if not primarily on many, many old mines out there - and there’s a million old mines out there too. Whole bunch of old Uranium mines out there to in Southern Nevada - thank you for your vids
Many times there is gold in sand and gravel pits gold is found if in gold bearing areas. Kim know few sand and gravel pits washings use of dredge back home in the black hill of South Dakota. Hebe worked other areas also
Maybe you could explain Nevada's great basin to us if you know anything about the Reconcentration of secondary Gold bearing alluvial gravel That occurred during the draining of lake Bonneville Chris Ralph didn't seem to know what I was talking about do you
Howdy there prospector jess! I mainly like to dig and run a sluice box! I travel quite a bit between California and north Idaho! Any river spots or creeks you may know about or have always wanted to try a spot lmk and I will try to get by there and sample with pan and sluice! When I dig , I dig! And after I try a spot you may mention I'll get back to you and report my finds! Thanks for the videos! Joe gold
Hello my friend. I love watching your videos. I’m looking to purchase some land in Elkins Nevada but my concern is that the land is all flat. Not sure if it’s worth buying it because I never see anyone find gold in the flat areas. Please advise. Thank you.
surprise !! looks like the entire state is claimed and being mined, offering good prospecting sampling and fun trips ~ caveat, exercise caution around ravine geography that offer big danger from flash floods ~
is there any gold in the truckee river near Reno? if possible can you show the relationship between data points of gold and residential populations.. I'm brand new to it, really appreciate the content :)
I just saw a post on a fb group from a guy that pulled a few good nuggets and pickers out of river near Truckee. Didn't say much about where, just near Truckee
Hey jess, im going to lake tahoe in early October. Do you think rye patch is the best spot to look for gold. I only have a day. Would appreciate your feed back. Thanks
Hey PJ im a new sub. Me and my family are moving to battle mountain from ohio and I'm planning on prospecting for a part time living I know it's not easy lol I've been over by south lake Tahoe at my cousins claim on the Carson U have great content very informative your time is appreciated thank you
Would you mind making another video on Nevada. I live here in Carson city. Just wondering why there is more micron gold than coarse gold? And what type of mining would you recommend for the comstock lode area?
interesting about the gold stopping at the idaho boarder. thats close to me and would be one of my places to go. never thought about a political reason but wouldnt put it past them
Hello I have a question about gold for in Minnesota. I heard that Minnesota had gold , but was called "FOOS GOLD " Is this gold real or does it have a value. Like the TV show Little House on Prairie. Where Laura Ingalls took all that gold to the bank But they were told it wasn’t worth anything. So is Foose gold have value?
Your basin and range is exactly backwards. Nevada is being stretched apart. I'd show you where the extension faults are-but they're plainly marked so you shouldn't have any trouble finding them--if you were to look. Hint: Look for the gold mines!
It is a absolutely legal. In fact if you are not a member of any organization (GPAA or LDMA) you’re better off looking for gold on public land without getting hassled about being on someone’s claim.
Michael Neeley Heck yah! Glad I’m not the only one. Been doing a lot of research, probably will shows the areas we know since gold is few and far between unless it’s the Bingham Copper mine lol
Question: I live in Las Vegas, I would like to buy a metal detector and look for some gold for fun. How am I able to know where I am legally allowed to metal detect? I see people on youtube metal detecting, but I don't want to get in any trouble. Please, with your expertise, would you be able to shed some light on this topic?
I use gold maps online . They will send you a download that you drop and drag over google earth and drop it on which ever state you buy .Yes you have to buy them per state . I have NV, AZ and Cali , They are like 17.98 each but well worth it .They tell you where every gold mining claim is in that state .Whether it is an active claim or non active claim. Both lode and placer . The non active claims are the claims that have been closed and you can dig there . Really great help . Hope that helps you .
Is gold found in veins with cinnabar? How rare is this type of find? Did old miners hide there gold veins from government by claiming cinnabar mines yet were digging gold and smelting in Canada or Mexico How often has gold and uranium Ben found in vein side by side?
I have 40 acres land in 1 hour from cortes mine it is operating. My lands is in the desert very close to Crescent Valley . It is desert never I think it was a gold there. Still I'm paying my taxes
Dear Mr Jess. I enjoy your videos and have learned a good but from you but every once and a while you geologic history is flat wrong. Example on the baison and range they are the result of crystal extension. Resulting in normal faults is they slope toward the Groban or down droped block. And the deeper they go the flatter they get. In the idaho one you had the Hotspot moving east when infant its the north American plate is moving west. The pacific plate is moving north west and subducting under Alaska and Japan. One other note I have liked the term Isenberg for the horsts of the great baison. German for island mountians. Some are bounded on one side usually the west by a fault the block of rock may then tilt to the east and the lower part buryed by sediments filling the Groban. The Wasatch fault is west and thus the east side dips gently just as the serria nevada have the fault on the east side and dip west to the central valley at an adverage of 2 foot per mile. One last note there was a down warp weakness going east and west through the uinta mountians and through western Utah. The ocean may not have been hugely deep but as sediment collected it sank attracting more sediments till iirc over 30,000 feet had colected. Latter magma exploited the weak spot in the crust and injected granite forcing up the sedimentary layers that have eroaded away so that driving north from vernal the higher you climb the older the rocks are as the magma cooled hot mineralized waters flowed through the limestone layers depositing gold at park city and copper at Bingham canyon. These lackolithic mountians were originally described by Gilbert when he surveyed the henry mountians [ bromide baison on top of st mary?] ThaT you talked about. These blister mountians may or not have broken through to the surface or not but the material there today definitely cooled underground. Other blister mountians in the area include the abajo the la sal , Navajo mountian and also I think the sanjuans in Colorado. Best wishes to you. Thankyou for your vids
It is not uncommon to find gold associated with cinnabar which is mercury ore, and mercury is found in hot springs deposits as is gold. Copper, zinc, silver, PGE, and Tellurides are good to map out too. BTW thanks for the tips!
I worked at Carlin. it's the pits. Haha.
I wouldn’t say hate. It’s just to busy for me. Reno is more chill.
Vegas is SO over-rated. Reno-Carson has it all without the hustle. I dig ur videos Jess-san.
It's all about diggin (more gold)
Dayton area and back up that canyon is a killer spot

Yes, flash floods can happen even if the sun is out in some desert watersheds.
I spoke a U S Forest Ranger and he said you prospect in National Forest because the land has no claims on in the National Forest.

Not much gold, relatively speaking, has been found above 3,500 foot elevation in California.

You need to go up over the hill out of Reno Hwy 80 ? just as you start down the other side go to the right where the Yuba starts . Yep
Great advice Jess!

Even going to have a fridge, a couch, and a BBQ. And radio. Cb radio.

I'll be in Juneau here not to far away.
I'm building a Styrofoam dock with a canvas tent on top. Dredging the darn thing.
Thanks for making this video, Sir!

Is it legal to do gold panning on public lands? I've been interested in doing it just for fun but I don't want a fine.
It is a absolutely legal. In fact if you are not a member of any organization (GPAA or LDMA) you’re better off looking for gold on public land without getting hassled about being on someone’s claim.
So I paid $24 for the USGS gold maps and video help. How do you access this information? Or is my $24 gone?
😔
If Nevada was a country, it'd be the 4th largest gold producing country in the world. Carlin
Will you do utah next?

What interactive map are you using?
Good gold video,
Yo! We need you to do a video for Utah!! Lol
Patience is a prospectors key skill. ;-)
Prospector Jess Guess I should have waited and watched the video where you say you’re going to do Utah next 😂 Thanks Jess!
Good info
Interesting video. If I were to go prospecting at any of those mines, how do I know which ones I need permission for? Who do you contact?
You’ll need MSHA and sites specific. But you’ll have to be an employee of the mine
