    Nice score and fix. I worked on a chipper yesterday except it had a bigger engine a Ford 6 cylinder. Some one messed with the firing order. Got it running but not continuously. Not getting enough fuel. Good video. TFS

    You have to wonder how likely it was that this machine would simply be sent to the dump by someone who couldn't deal with it...you guys rescued it! :) Jack

    The A-Team comes through again! For $5 you got a good deal. I have a Craftsman that looks a lot like this one, except Silver and Black.
    You should take the time to sharpen the cutters on the "branch" side of that flywheel as they seem pretty dull.
    that fuel tank looks metal and if they left ethanol gas in it, could have rust and crude clogging the carb and fuel line, make sense to add a filter.

    Good deal for $5.
    I'm surprised that the chipper is just on the crank of the engine without an additional support bearing. Seems like a lot of stress. I built a small engine dyno using a hydraulic pump I will post a video of it soon. We just slipped the pump over the shaft hoping that the weight won't be an issue.

    If he takes it back apart and sharpens up those blades it will chip fast . I have the same one and it likes to grind like that and not feel well when the blades are dull . Thumbs up man , That shaft key was way wrong .. !!

    That's a good idea to hold the plug with a plastic bottle. I think we have all had a little shock before eh! Some of the Briggs shocks can be very violent!

    I Had one of those I brought brand new back around 1986/87 it is a hammer mill mulcher but mine cost me 1450$ Au back then and I put tons of branches through it
    I leant it to a mate and he found it to short to the ground so he kindly built up a ramp/platform that you wheel the machine onto and gave it I think about 8 inches more hieght of the ground that was just perfect to work with as it really was to low , a very solid machine I eventually sold it to a animal feeds place who where going to use it for cracking maize and lupins etc for stock feel so it would have had a fairly easy life compared to what I put it through

    A little tip when you’re running these things, me and Dad found that you get the best results if it is fully throttled up.

    not trying to cost you more money but my experience with pulsa jet carbs tells me to pull the whole carb. give it a thorough cleaning and check the fuel pickups ( just plastic and can develop holes). don't forget to check the tank there is an upper reservoir that you can't see into with the carb on place. this might cost and extra $5-$20 depending on if you need new gaskets or pickups and where you get them but it will save a lot of misery in the future.

    The good old Briggs Flywheel key. Looks like you need a new blade that thing seemed really dull. I have a little 5hp chipper and also had to do a diaphram and new blades and it works sweet now...

    Nice find there for $5 a bit of time and buying a few parts for the carb. Looks like we just found out why fuel injection systems have an ecu. The manual controled injection system was a huge failure early in design by the looks of it L.O.L .

    carb kits r cheap for those older briggs I've used a 7.5 johnson carb on mine and a temp tank I also clean flywheel with fine sandpaper new plug u be good to go

    Done better than my B&S Intek engine, damned thing won't start at all, good spark, flywheel key's intact, carb's clean, compression's good, timing's spot on, but dead as a dodo...

    I don't know. Engine seems to pull over awful easily. I would do a compression check.Does not have enough compression or draw to pull gas from the tank to sustain itself. I may be wrong.

    • @awsomemustang
      @awsomemustang 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      i would check valve clearance common problem after many hours of use the valves eventually get stuck open just enough to bleed compression

    • @daviddelle774
      @daviddelle774 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume you're talking about how long it spins after pulling. That is the weight of the flywheel turning the after pulling.

    Put in a new diaphragm and a new spark plug, and while he's at it, tell, Daddy Dirtbike to sharpen those chipper blades.
    Then change the oil and go to work.
    We used to rent these machines, not like this little one, but much more powerful, and you could be sure the guys who rented it would try to chip 4x4 logs and a ton of wet leaves,....then we'd hear, " Aw this machine is no @#*#@!!! good !
    So we sold them off,...I don't miss renting those machines I can tell you. Anybody in the Rental Equipment business will tell you about the same.
    Great deal, especially for 5 bucks.

    Why do people insist on storing engine powered yard equipment out in the weather? People have no idea how to care for or repair mechanical things.
