I remember watching this with my mom as a kid and bawling my eyes when the dog’s face appeared in heaven at the end. 😭

This is my favorite episode. I cried like a baby. The reason Jonathan wasn't getting any signals from God is because this was the dog's assignment, not Jonathan's . What a beautiful story .I've always said that dogs are our guardian angels. I used to tell my dog all the time .

We won't get shows like this. It takes imagination. An imagination you get growing up without computers, cellphones, the internet, and social media. I wish God would take it away. Then we would have a better world.
Having lost alot of dogs the end really gets to me especially the last shot of the dog. This is a great show. Michael and Victor had so much chemistry

Boomer had me from the first "woolf". What a beautiful dog, no wonder he could escape a 6 ft fence. Tear jerker for sure.
I was a very little boy, and remember that when I saw this, it was the first time I've cried in front of my family watching TV. I still can't help it.

It's going to take a lot of people of colour and members of the QUILTBAG on TV to make up for the long time when everyone onscreen was straight, cisgender, and white. If anybody at all still is, they're strictly over quota, seeing it means it'll take that much longer to make things fair for everybody else.
Regarding dogs, I don't think they're usually gay, but plenty of other species often are, including sheep, cattle, penguins, and dolphins. We can't tell if any animals are trans, because we don't know how to ask animals how they experience gender. If we ever learn to talk to them, we might find out. :)

This show had to be the Best of the Best of shows. The ending, to find out Boomer had passed, yet came in spirit form to save his owners, I fought tears, esp when the film went to the sky & heard Boomer's bark..
Sadly miss Michael Landon & Victor French, 2 of the Greatest actor's..

This is probably my favourite episode of the series so far. A real canine hero who saved not two, but four lives in a single day. And the ending was totally unexpected, and sad.
You forgot the boy, who would have gotten bitten by his own rabid dog if it hadnt been for Boomer . That makes 5 !
Four, since Johnathan was already dead as an angel.

This is the episode that really tore me up inside. I was crying my eyes out for days after I saw this. I've had many dogs over the years that have died, so this episode really hit home. I haven't yet watched this here on TH-cam, but I'm already crying, knowing what's coming. One of the BEST episodes of this series!

Living proof that all dogs go to heaven. Our dog, Daisy, an Irish Wolfhound mix, a rescue sweetheart visited me twice in my dreams after she passed. She was beautiful, shiny coat, and so happy...and I got to stroke her beautiful fur, and hug her, I cried the happiest tears. I know I will see her when I go to glory when the time comes. Praise You, Jesus! The Bible says He cares for people and animals alike. God bless you.
We had a dog put to sleep the day before my birthday and this makes me think about it

I was 8 when I watched this episode and I think it marked my life since that day. It maybe explains why I adore animals and I try to protect them all the time. I think good TV is meant to do that. The final escene is ABSOLUTELY MOVING, and after more than 30 years I watched it again in 2023 and I'm crying again. A big hug for everybody who shares this feeling towards animals and people, I´m glad I'm not the only one.
I was 8 years old when I first saw this episode as well. Even though the "cold war" was still going on the world was such a better place. I wouldn't trade being a kid in the 1980's for anything. It was the last "normal" decade in my opinion. Don't get me started on all the great music we grew up with too! Salutations fellow 80's kid👍

Yes, the final scene (40:31) is so incrediby heartbreaking. Micheal Landon was himself, so compassionate and empathetic. He absolutely knew how to touch people's hearts.

I used to watch Highway to Heaven when it originally aired. Some how I missed this one but caught it in the 90’s. Are you freaking kidding me? This is pure gold. The sucker punch ending - good lord it blew me away. This is a top notch episode. Period.
This is such a wonderful story. I remember watching it on television. If you love dogs, you will definitely enjoy watching this episode of the series. I miss Michael Landon. He was such a talented person.

Already crying. I have such a love for dogs and have four now and have had a dog or dogs my entire life. My first and best friend was a dog his name was Different. I still remember him always waiting for me after school waiting for my bus.😪😭😊I will always love him and all my dogs. Never met a dog I didn't like and have loved many. God thank you for giving and others The unconditional love of a dog.
I never forgot this episode. I watch this as a 10 year old child and hit me so hard.
The most epic badass opening to a show when you see Victor French got the stuff, and put that shrimp on the barbie. Then the rest of the episode was sad af.
This is the 1st episode of this show I'd had ever seen i was home 1 day a few months back get my shed built and this was on must say 1 of the best shows ever only have about 20 episodes left until I can say I've seen all episodes from every season
This show was great! Back when TV was worth watching. The only thing worth watching now are documentaries and reruns of old shows.

I love how Jonathan didn't even know that God brought Boomer back to life to help him and Mark find Larry and His dad. It felt almost cruel when Jonathan and Mark realized what happened. The looks on their faces were telling. I cried when Larry's dad told them Boomer was dead. I didn't see that one coming, either.
It made me sad that it wasn't a true happy ending. The animal never should've had to die.

He didn't bring him back to life. The dog loved Larry and his dad so much that he came back from heaven to get them help. Once Johnathan and Mark found them, his mission was over.

I was wondering just yesterday how I was going to find this episode. I saw it on TV a long time ago. Cant believe I found it. I knew the ending, but Im crying anyway. Animals are so special and this dog was an angel. Im going to put this in my Favorites so I wont lose it again. Hey Boomer, good boy.

Nice to be able to see these episode. Had never seen this series before because worked evening shift. Still very pertinent to today’s situations & is good illustration of “what the world needs now is love sweet love” as the song’s words go. That is love as defined by God-love your neighbor as your self. Not -love only yourself.
I don't want to ruin the ending... Wow what a wonderful episode of highway to heaven. The best line Jonathan gave at the end "I'm sure he made it home".

That's only in the show though. In reality angels are angels and humans are humans. We don't become angels when we die.

Only a select small group of humans will become like angels, that's a promise (Matthew 5: 3 and 5: 10, Matthew 22: 30). The rest of people of God will inherit the earth, that's another promise (Matthew 5:5). The ones who declined the invitation to the eternal party (Matthew 22:1-22:14) will not see their names booked in the registration list so, neither to the earth nor to heaven.

About 5 years ago, the guy living next door, asked me if anyone had died in his house. I told him the original owners mother had passed away there, like 50 years ago. He said he'd be watching tv with his two daughters, ages 5 and 4, by his side on the couch. He said at times both of the girls would be looking down the hall towards the back bedroom. One night the youngest daughter whispered, daddy, who is that lady down the hall. The other daughter said she had seen her several times before also, going into the back bedroom. He said at likes , he felt like someone was watching him, but never saw anyone. You never know about these things.

You might not believe me but I myself supported missionary in Taiwan and I lost my French bulldog 2 years ago cried for 3 days straight it was so hard not having him be there I felt like I was dying inside and it was amazing was I felt God pull the sadness out of my heart like physically.
For about 7 months I'd always tell Jesus could you please tell lucky that I love him and he's a good boy I just assumed he went to heaven because animals don't sin against God.
And I one afternoon fell asleep and so lucky in heaven with Jesus who was beautiful from a distance and like he came over and I could hear what he was saying I could understand his thoughts he can understand me.
After that I just know I'd see him again one day and he'd be healthy and happy he was in heaven and never lonely
Tears popped out when he said,no boomer is dead😭it was the spirit of the Dog!so pure and simple beautiful 👌💞🙏

I'm here watching this again June 4, 2021....What a brilliant story writer Michael Llandon...and the scenario of that Track that hit the front of that Restaurant was exactly like what happened in the town where i live.....A jeepney hits the front restaurant too...its good nobody hurts...the lady driver accidentally not hit the brake but the gas ... I know they go to heaven my first dog came back to tell me, we had her presence for a week after her death which enormously with the mourning, now I know shes up there and when I go to heaven, hopefully, she will be there at heavens door to greet me

This is a tear jerker for dog lovers. Ive got 12 so it really got to me 💔 if this story had been true the cops would have had to look for the dog because of the fight with the rabid dog. But,this is TV after all.

NGL. That ending was brutal 💔. With today's technology, it would take a matter of hours, if that, for a drone to find them. Boomer saved three people ( technically four, but I guess Mark doesn't really count , because he's "got the stuff."😇). I really love the synergy between Landon & French. Man's best friend is undoubtedly an angel and that's no BS.
