    This product is like nothing else for polymer clay I've seen. Perhaps when I grasp the basics, I may just give this a go. I adore the big fish with the green patina. I'd have that on my wall in a heart beat! 😍

    Hi Val, Awesome tutorial!! I have watched alot of Christi’s videos re swellegant and this whole system is just so great. Thank you for sharing.

    I love the green because it looks more authentic to me. The blue is a gorgeous colour but I can't recall ever seeing blue patina on metal, have you? Perhaps if the blue was far less vibrant. And, oh-my-goodness Val...you sculpted the fish and bowl yourself? They are absolutely beautiful. You're so talented! Thanks so much for sharing. :) oxo

    I'm about to FINALLY try Swellegant for the first time! I've had it for several months, but my body hasn't been cooperating with me. It's finally letting me get back to clay & I'm so happy!!! Thanks for sharing this video, as always.

    Those are amazing. I'm torn between the two, blue is my favorite color so I love that one but the verdigris does look absolutely ancient. Great video, as always.

    Love this Swellegant demo of yours and I agree that you should do a video on the fish too. I've seen the bowl tutorial and enjoyed that very much. But you really should try a few of the dyes too. My favourite's are the Chartreuse and the Caribbean Blue.

    Awesome Valerie. I love your little object d'arte! I've used a different brand of similar product. I do have the mini set of swelligant products but hadn't tried them yet. I think I concur with your assessment of the process, but it sure does make the stuff you use it on look good.

    I love the blue Val. It's really interesting but I've been banned by family from buying any more craft items as I have stuff every which where. I know where things are! So this will have to wait. Please would you show us how you made the fish and bowel you first showed us as examples, they both looked great. Tfs, enjoy the rest of the weekend. Blessings

      @UnrulyHousewife  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I will do a tutorial for the bowl I think, as it is fun to do (not necessarily with Swellegant). I might do the fish too... I should I guess. I'd have to deconstruct how first though, I was fiddling with it all day when I sculpted it, which would make for a lousy video. ;D

    I was wondering if you can file it with light sanding block to bring out the copper? Or, is that a no-no. They did both turn out wonderful. I have all the swellegant products but haven't got around to using them. I loved this video. I have watched the Embrace the Caos video but she moves around so much to different pieces and doesn't totally finish them all. So it was nice to see the whole follow through that you did. Thanks and hugs, Kitty

    I was doing some small ones on paper towels, not a good idea, I had spillage and it stuck and pulled my prep and metal coating right off, I had done the back as well. Was my first time playing with it though so my advice is to be neat! Great video as always. I love the blue one. I tried a bracelet with I think bronze and sky blue patina and then touched it up with some silver, it came out pretty nice. That blue is quite blue for sure!

    Hi Val, after many months {I have been building and sculpting like mad and have added the wonderful Apoxie Sculpt to my doings} I have bought a set of this stuff and all it's add ons, it adds up quick! lol, I hope you are better?, I have the same trouble you have as I mentioned when I was here last so I do know.
    Thank you for introducing me to this and other stuff, because of it I have almost finished a large "Talos" sculpt, he is the huge bronze man that comes alive in the great Ray Harryhousen film, it is perfect for him, You should be on commission, I wont be the first to have bought these products, get on to them

    Hi Val! Since you mentioned the safety glasses, I want to provide a link to ones similar to the ones I got. they are made by 3M, cost only about $3 or $4 dollars and work great! The go on over my own glasses - so unobtrusive and comfortable I forget I even have them on - and they work!!!!! I've had a bead I was buffing with a dremel fly into them and I was sooooooo glad it wasn't just my glasses!

    You are right, much too labor intensive (and expensive) to make for a craft fair. (Although I would pay dearly for that fish!) But the little hearts would make great gifts for friends who are too special for Made in China trash bought in a mall. Just to walk by one of the little trinkets in my house would make me look twice and smile. You have a very light hand, which results in more detail and a finer look than some well-known demo folks.

    Beautiful, but u can also get the same look with copper metalic, or brown polymer clay, and blue turquoise acrylic paint. and it's instant no waiting until the next day, and without the chemicals.

    • @UnrulyHousewife
      @UnrulyHousewife  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can look good, yes. The thing about these is that the metal is real and the patina forms naturally. It's something different I guess.

    • @FranOnTheEdge
      @FranOnTheEdge 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unruly Housewife yes, and because it's a real reaction the patina is naturally lovely. (To me anyway). I have got some good effects with just acrylic paints, but there's something about Swellegant that just appeals to me - or any reactive real metal paint and patina. I've even made my own patinas - that was tremendous fun. I'd like to do that again some day.

  • @DianaMoon11428
    @DianaMoon11428 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello - hope you're staying safe during the pandemic.
    I was very confused about Swellegant until (after watching as many videos as I could, and reading) I realized that, as you are covering up the polymer clay with a metallic paint, you are essentially turning it from a piece of polymer clay to a piece of metal. Then the patinas and dyes do their thing, as if you were treating a piece of copper or bronze. So no point making something colorful - pay attention more to the texture of the polymer clay piece because that's where the charm of the patina process will come from.
    Does that make sense?

    Finally, something that makes sense! I watched 3 Christi Friesen videos and she was so busy trying to get people to buy the whole product line that she made no sense. I also watched another person try it and her wall art looked like pond scum. Apparently, she did not know about dabbing more of the metal stuff on the piece to show the highlights. She scrubbed it off as you would normally do with acrylic paint, creating a horrendous mess. Not sure how practical this is for wearable jewelry, but now at least I know how it works! Thanks.

      Martha D I remember watching an antique roadshow kind of show where a man found an antique gun with lots of patina, ,and he took a wire brush and polish to it. The buyer told him he made a $50,000 gun worth $25 by cleaning it lol....it's funny how much people will pay for things that look old...another person varnished a whole bunch of first edition comics...I thought the antique dealer was going to cry
