I must say, MangaKamen, your videos about heroes and villains are the ones that inspired me more and more, especially for my own fanfiction story, and especially my own villain, Toshineko Hirozaki, the character in my profile picture. That, plus your Right and Wrong Way series are my favorite content from your channel.
Some of my favorite rivals are Dark Pit, Black Knight from Shovel Knight, and Bass.EXE from the Battle Network series. They're not friendly like a lot of other rivals, but they aren't one-note pricks either since they they have their own motives and morals that they follow that clashes with their protagonists. Plus, they often have some of the best, most memorable boss fights.
My all-time favorite rival is Vergil. My favorite Pokemon rival is Nemona. She's a different take on a friendly rival. She's already a champion and wants a friend that can keep up with her she xan be herself around. Her goal is to challenge you to make you stronger. Her personality is great too, she's energetic and battle crazy. And her team does have some story telling to it.
Yeah, it’s great how Nemona is actually holding and changes her party throughout the game based on your skill level. But then in the final battle she’s able to finally go all out and use her real team.
I came up with this idea for a friendly Pokemon rival being taken to its conclusion in that they'd have a couple of their fights be optional. Hell maybe you'd get stuff from battling them regardless of if you win or lose. Heck maybe they could be interested in other matters like exploring the region. Meanwhile you could also have to deal with a more dickish rival who you'd be able to put in their place more easily from the EXP you got from sparring with the friendly rival.
Y'know Anarchy Reigns has a really good rivalry. During the campaign you have the option to play as either of the two protags. Who have conflicting motives. Leo is part of a super militarized hi-tech police force who is trying to capture his former mentor alive. As said mentor had a ptsd attack and killed a child. Meanwhile Jack was the father of aforementioned child. No only does he want Max (Leo's mentor) dead. The fact that one of the BPS killed his daughter also left him with disdain for the entire organization. But the perspective is framed in a way where for most of the game the are each other's villain. As much as i detest playing the same game twice to unlock the final act, i think the game would benefit from that. Also the entire games soundtrack fucking RULES
Honestly it would’ve been interesting that your rival In Pokémon would adapt and change their tactics against you with each fight, showing that the AI has learned from you and has a few Pokémon to counter yours.🐱
