There is a better way which I show in another video. You can place a flat edge against the two valve lobes and you are at TDC when both flat edges are together.
So much easier than the inline 4. Especially a classic Japanese where you have to pull the tank off man. This is easy because the heads are right there.
Thanks for the video, looks much easier than i anticipated it would be, but then, I haven’t tried it yet. I you produced a good video, any chance we can get one where you actually adjust the clearance?
I tried that chopstick trick on a single cylinder KTM and when the piston came up somehow it chomped my wooden stick like a toothpick and there were splinters all over the inside of my cylinder. I'm not sure whats a better way to find TDC but the chopstick method has risks ..... jus sayin
Oh dang that sounds horrible! On the 1200 I now use a straight edge to determine when the engine is in TDC. The 1250 is a bit more challenge as you can’t use a single straight edge to find TDC.
12,000 miles how can i tell if its been done on an 05 rt? just got it first timer learning on a big girl learned how to navigate around my neighborhood now im on to the nitty gritty so far plugs look oe nasty carbon build up upper right side cylinder coil pack shows arching air filter is well due drained the crankcase check clearance and service clutch and brake fluids once i figure out my strategy aswell as rear bevel oil where would i find oem quality parts for a wholesale price?! ;) cant find a coil pack anywhere
I’m not sure where you can find the parts at wholesale unless you’re a dealer or repair shop. I’d suggest trying www.bobsbmw.com or www.maxbmw.com. Have fun with your RT!
Great video!!! Helps a lot and save money to over pay at the dealer, they are very expensive for nothing. Thanks for the information!!!!
Thanks for the comments. You are welcome!
Great video and that genuine smile at the end!
Thanks for watching. I appreciate the feedback!
There must be a better way to find the TDC position. usually the valves gear or shaft have a marking.

That’s quite true!
When you said the other side are you referring to removing only the spark plug? The valves are only on the one side of the motor?

That is in my list! Thanks for the suggestion.
Great video
Thanks for your feedback.
What do you need to do to adjust the valve clearance if not in tolerance?
I haven’t made a video on that yet!
so if the clearance is off is there a video on how to adjust the valves?
I have not made one yet...
I have 21 rt what tool do you use to reset service reminder. love your videos
Thank you. I use a GS-911. However, I’m going to work on an alternative solution. I’ll make a video once I figure it out. Stay tuned.
