@@paladin3116 you can buy one with 50k miles for 10k less if you're lucky, just saying. Love the timeless design, easy to repair, parts are in abundance, a decade+ supply chain built up around this car. Still built in Japan, 4.0 liter V6, no turbos. Dinosaur 5 speed transmission that will probably outlast the frame in the car. On top of that you can basically drive it *anywhere* in the world. One of a kind. The design of this 4Runner is so cool, gotta agree with you on that. I don't see that many 4Runners, but I have seen a 4Runner in my neighbourhood with this exact same colour, and it is the TRD Pro model.

(Sick of paying 400 a month for it) I had so much fun with the 2016 going into areas after it snowed and just sliding around and covering it with mud. It was very practical with reclining rear seats and despite being the base model had many options like the sun roof, heated seats, and leather everywhere. Everything is so bulky and satisfying to touch (except the door release inside which was just plastic I was in a Ford Escape that had cheap plastic everywhere but solid metal door openers) The only annoying bit about the 2016 was there's this compart door in the cargo area that rattles against the plastics sometimes. Also like he said no handle on the drivers side. I hate that. I added a brush guard, led bulbs, window tint, etc. Needless to say my parents love driving it and I'm stressed at how well they will take care of it. I have the 2020 and have to say the 2022 is still appealing. I wish they had installed the LED low, high beams and fog lights and blind spot monitoring when they upgraded the technology and safety in 2020. Annoying how they introduced each feature once a year. There are also some other annoying things such as the lack of grab handle on driver side and the volume and track buttons on the steering wheel is in reverse! The front camera is also a nice feature! Looking forward to seeing what Toyota will do for the next gen. Hope they at least keep the sliding rear window as well!
As an owner of over 120 vehicles, I must say that all of them after 3 years start to show serious deterioration. If ur a lease guy then it's OK If you work hard, deal w lots of computers and tech crsp at work and your brain is fried Then nothing beats the 4 runner. Wow! I love your honest review. I do love the loud exhaust, tires, and engines. Also, I enjoy the tank feeling as I drive to work each day. I have 2021 TRD Off Road and I love it! 2023 TRD Pro will be my next purchase.
Me and you! I am waiting for new body style TRD Pro. But I am saving now because I have to put down atleast half of the cost. In fact, the only way I will buy this is if I can order exactly what I want. I plan to put down atleast $20,000! So, I am ready to order directly from Toyota and wait for months until I get it.
The 4 Runner is one of the oldest, strongest trued and true vehicles on the market for over 35 years, some things are fine just fine the way they are, but those damn EPA regulations being so strict these days are trying to electric and make cars more efficient, but on the real, better gas mileage and a 8 or 9 speed AT, and larger towing package with more power & torque wouldn't hurt at all. This is one of the only body on frame acutual SUV's we have left, Just cause something works well doesn't mean it can't be improved. TRD with some other mods wouldn't hurt either
Toyota makes 4runner in 2WD. Also I sell them and the Pro has consistently paced purchase price in resale since I've been selling Toyota since 2014. Not including fees, most pro owners see their entire investment back if the sell between 3-5 years, with average miles on it.
I like it the way it is. I don't need huge screens in a car. I don't need to charge multiple devices all the time. I don't need fanciness. I need a car that takes me to places where I want to be. A car is a tool for me. I needs to be reliable and durable.
I like that the 4Runner is old. Old is familiar and reliable. Keep updating safety and leave the rest alone. I wish the 4Runner got the Electric Lime from the Tacoma, looks a little better than Lime Rush to me.
@@TheBravo13x I think the 4 Runner might still offer a V6, but they’re probably gonna replace the old 4.0L V6 with the newer V6 from the Highlander. But I agree.
I’m in between the Ram 1500 and 4Runner. As I do more research I’m leaning towards the 4Runner as it’s reliable and holds it value. As I’m hearing the power train has not changed since 2002 it give me the “if it’s not broke why fix it”. Good job Toyota, might be owning a 4Runner soon!
If you don't need the extra towing capacity, then 100% get the 4R. I've had a 97', 08', and now this lime rush version. I could still reliably drive either of my previous runners. I'll most likely be a 4R owner for life.
Toyota must be killing it on profit per unit. Have always loved the 4R, and the reliability and ruggedness let's them charge a premium for such a dated and low tech vehicle
I’m hearing in a lot of your videos that you complain about cars not having wireless Applecar play When cars get that what will you complain about next?
One of the best made in Japan SUV that is old school but still look gorgeous. Edit: I’m also concern is Toyota is about to but a new engine in 2023. But as long as it has that old school V6 and still made in Japan, there should be no worries for me.
The appeal is the ruggedness of being on frame versus unibody. Those who love the Forerunner, love it for the longevity and history it stands for over the years. Offroad vehicles are quite lacking when they become unibody due to the body flex. We have to ask why is it so popular when there are better riding, better comfort features, better steering, etc?? It is popular because it did not change the equation of what makes it great.
Don't need a new version of this SUV! This is the best vehicle in this class ! Doesn't need the latest electronic b/s buy a Lexus if that's what you need.
Absolutely love this truck. I hope to have my TRD off road for many years to come. My only concern is within the next couple years it’ll cost me hundreds of dollars to fill the gas tank.
The rear seats do recline in the 2022 4Runner TRD Pro, the hard plastic latches are just above the rear seat belt bottom bolt. You can see how far back the seats recline by the slanted channels on the interior wall plastics in the video when Sofyan opens the rear gate, time stamp 5:23…….my kiddos love this feature 😉
Beautiful vehicle We could live without all your NEGATIVE COMMENTS!!! My '12 Limited AWD is 10 years old, 85K miles, and just broken in!! No Bitching about that!
The rear seats do in fact recline. the control for it is on the side wall of the vehicle just behind the passenger door. basically on the wheel well bump
Very soon I will have my TRD PRO 2023. Cant wait. I do not care for some electronic gizmos. I bought it because of the reliability of its transmission and the engine. Might be ancient but it will take good care of me as I will do the same to it from the mile one. And if I feel like it, I will buy me a 6th gen, but only after a year or two. Not a good idea to buy the first edition of a vehicle after such a huge change.
@@zarbon700 Ford offers it in the Bronco. Jeep offers it. Toyota offers it in the Tacoma. People would buy it. Now I have a 2000 4Runner manual. Last year they offered one in the US. I’ll keep my old one as long as I can. But I’ll never buy an auto🥱 I would go right down to the dealership today and buy one if they offered the 4Runner in a manual again. And so would many others. The rest of the world still agrees with a manual transmission on a 4x4. No one is out in the bush putting their truck in D
Thank God not a full digital display...! would remove the character of the vehicle . A bit too plasticky but the 8" display is pretty nice to live with. Just enough old school mixed with enough tech to be a reliable and ancient TRUCK that isnt copying all the crossovers . LOVE it. Except for the buttons for fan speed. Rather have the ORP's knobs for certain. Hate taking eyes off the road to turn the heat lower that sucks. The rear seats DO offer a little recline, the lever is on the side hidden by seatbelt I believe. I agree on the seats being low and I'm not tall. Looking into seat-jacker spacers. One good 4Runner tip: in an Off-Road premium, you do not have the same exhaust noise and the Pro. Pretty good review here though .. nice job !
The Mighty 4Runner The King of Old School Toyota should do the right thing when this is redesigned next year, keep this V6, and add an 8 speed They won't, so Get it now, before Toyota kills the V6 and turns it into a proper 4-cylinder lady in 2023

Don't be so sensitive. He's a car critic. It's his job to mention those types of things. . But if you watched towards the end he mentions the reliability, capability, durability and the charm it has. He recommends it at the end.
Best and most complete review on TH-cam. Well done.
Remember back in the mid 00s when this color was trendy? The 2005-2007 Ford Escape hybrid came in this lime green
I remember it being trendy in the 1970s when most car were available in 12-16 colors.
thank goodness the power lift gate wasn't added. hate how slow they open/close
As an owner of over 120 vehicles, I must say that all of them after 3 years start to show serious deterioration. If ur a lease guy then it's OK
If you work hard, deal w lots of computers and tech crsp at work and your brain is fried
Then nothing beats the 4 runner. It's simple ,rugged, and lasts 4 ever
The jeeps and broncos are over hyped crap
After owning three Raptors wc all broke down after 3 years
I must sat the trd pro 4 runner and landcruiser are the best vehicles on the planet
Thanks.I’m looking at the base TRD with a few options. My wife thinks I’m nuts but I keep my vehicles for 10 years and this seems like a brick shithouse
@@profpigeon5441 go w the trd pro!!!
So, I am ready to order directly from Toyota and wait for months until I get it.
its all about kaizen.. quality, durability and reliability. love this suv!
Our community is better because you're in it.
Recline? Yes you can recline the rear seats! My 16 SR5 can recline!!!!
Love my 2020 Pro! With all my accessories, I might get 6 seconds. Not why I own a 4runner. Best SUV on the market.
What A Great Review! That 4Runner TRD Pro Is Look Like An Old-School SUV.
The styling aged so well that Toyota finally brought the Sequoia in line with it. Honestly still one of the better styled vehicles out there.
Exactly. I'm all in on EV's but the 4RUNNER will be one of the last standing gas gems
4Runner gets a redesign next year, there’s a good chance it’ll be hybrid. Look at all they’re new models are literally all hybrid.
Just got my red 2022 trd off road! Arrives early March. I don't want a redesigned pos personally
Is there any whistling at highway speeds due to the roof basket?
I love this version of 4runner and love that back window. I want one so bad
I have a 2022 SR5 Premium in Nautical Blue, and I love it!
I’m hearing in a lot of your videos that you complain about cars not having wireless Applecar play
When cars get that what will you complain about next?
They will complain there's no head up display, or ambient light. There's always some useless tech they want in every cars.
One of the best made in Japan SUV that is old school but still look gorgeous.
Edit: I’m also concern is Toyota is about to but a new engine in 2023. But as long as it has that old school V6 and still made in Japan, there should be no worries for me.
“Thigh support” wtf. How spoiled we are.
Hey man…we all miss Radio Shack
I am waiting on the 2023. If it follows the Tundra and Sequoia style, it’s going to be nice.
Same here.
Love your reviews! Greetings from Athens, Greece
I loved 2002 RadioShack
GREAT REVIEW! Thanks for doing this.
Totally agree with the idea of refining the platform and better power aligned with better mileage
Ugliest Looking Color ive ever seen! they used to use these colors in fast and furious back in early 2000's
The 4Runner actually got the refresh in 2014 not 2017
The appeal is the ruggedness of being on frame versus unibody.
Best resale vehicle on the planet. sells same price used as it did new 1 yr later.
Gotta love that spec of 4Runner!
Beautiful vehicle
We could live without all your NEGATIVE COMMENTS!!!
My '12 Limited AWD is 10 years old, 85K miles, and just broken in!! No Bitching about that!
Is this still built in Japan? I had one many moons ago and it was built so much better than my other Toyota's made in America.
Yes. You have to order and wait for delivery. WORTHY.
The simplicity of the 4runner is what keeps it one of their best selling vehicles. For us toyota lovers if we want fancy we go lexus.
Lexus has a GX 460 that’s also an old school SUV, but it’s the last old school luxury SUV ever made
Those rear seats definitely recline. My 17 TRD off road premium does
I'm owning a 2020 4runner OR 2 rows and there are 2 levers at the sides of the seat next to each doors to adjust the angle of the back row .
Great video, Sofyan. I can't believe this only has a five-speed transmission. Have a great week.
Toyota has a record for being slow to adapt. My 97 tercel is a 4 speed manual, no overdrive.
Seriously find somebody to film you. Nearly a mil of subscribers and this hand held video quality..
If you reviewed this 4runner for its intended purpose, this will be the ideal vehicle compared to its competitors.
The rear seats do in fact recline. the control for it is on the side wall of the vehicle just behind the passenger door. basically on the wheel well bump
I just got one earlier this month new :)! Already 1000 miles
Let me see it.b
Very soon I will have my TRD PRO 2023. Cant wait. I do not care for some electronic gizmos. I bought it because of the reliability of its transmission and the engine. Might be ancient but it will take good care of me as I will do the same to it from the mile one. And if I feel like it, I will buy me a 6th gen, but only after a year or two. Not a good idea to buy the first edition of a vehicle after such a huge change.
Looking at trading in my lexus rx350 for a 4runner next week. Great review as always!😁
same here.
My neighbor traded his 2002 RX 300 to a 2015 4 Runner SR5, 7 years ago. Still running perfectly at over 80k miles!!
Great reviews as always, I'm really happy you reviewed this car.
The 4Runner is very nice car. I love it.
Just got one earlier than I planned to have it because this is the last chance I can have the 4.0 v6
I wish they’d just offer a manual again. All the old school stuff is fine with me, but auto only is a drag. I’d buy one right away with a 6 speed
Why? Very few people would buy the manual, so it wouldn't make sense for Toyota to build something that wouldn't recoup the investment.
@@zarbon700 Ford offers it in the Bronco. Jeep offers it. Toyota offers it in the Tacoma. People would buy it. Some people still actually enjoy driving and don’t just want a minivan mall-finder transmission. Auto is just laughable. Very sad haha. I had a 1990 4Runner with a manual.
@@Sadskacivan Agreed!!!!
Any timing from them on when you'll get a presser Sequoia?
The hood scoop does not block your view.
Pretty good review here though .. nice job !
The 4Runner is legendary. That's it.
They didn't have the LED high on the 2021? My 21 limited has low and high LED or am I tripping.
Do you have a 2022 Acura RDX video dropping soon?
The Mighty 4Runner
The King of Old School
Toyota should do the right thing when this is redesigned next year, keep this V6, and add an 8 speed
They won't, so Get it now, before Toyota kills the V6 and turns it into a proper 4-cylinder lady in 2023
Lol proper 4-cyl. You’re right tho. A 4-banger with a silly turbo.
nah i think they will keep the v6 just de tune it from the lexus lx
@@rks-bh6tb they won’t keep the NA 4.0L V6 tho
I guarantee you when this truck is redesigned everyone will hate it and want the old one back
They still might offer a V6, but the old 4.0 V6 might be replaced. They’re probably gonna use the Highlanders V6 with an 8 speed auto with the better fuel economy along with the hybrid
