  • If you have a love for being in the fresh air and competition then there's no reason you can't enjoy the thrill and challenge of Moth sailing.
    Current National and four-time European International Moth Champion Chris Rashley tells us what makes sailing these high performance boats so addictive for him.
    "The Moth is one of the few boats where you can just go out for a sail in an evening or an afternoon and you can just enjoy your sailing. That feeling has never left me after five years, the enjoyment of just going sailing."
    Find out Chris' top tips for rigging a moth - • Moth Rigging Top Tips ...

    When you say someone lets you have a go...who is this wonderful person who lets you borrow their very expensive boat and where can I ask them?!?

      Max McCarroll - Quite a few people actually. However, given that gormless look on your face / mouth breathing on your profile Max, I am not surprised nobody lets you near their boat. I wouldn’t.

      They will only lend them to you if you are a trusted friend to them and are a really good sailor, lending the boat to anyone less than that will result in an expensive bill. I would tend to say that when you are learning to sail them you are 10 times more likely to break something. We are also very careful about which friends we lend it to as some just keep asking to « test the upgrades » you do and it gets really awkward and annoying as moth sailors don’t have much time to sail them as they are often doing other campaigns therefore getting very little time on their boat and you will be taking away from that time...

    Great to see this, it’s only some 50 years since I sold my last one 3554. Love to give it a try, a friend at Gurnard, my age still has a foiler. But for some reason I don’t think I’d be ‘let out’
    Enjoy. Barry Watkin, Isle of Wight.

    What is that bow-line, dragging in the water?

    • @sw4gskyflash584
      @sw4gskyflash584 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      i think it was to controle the lift height of the boat so you dont go to high and be unstable or to low and hit the water all the time

    • @AngusMcIntyre
      @AngusMcIntyre 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They call it a magic wand. It is attached to the control surface on the main foil (the dagger board). The idea is that the boat should regulate its own ride height.

      @@AngusMcIntyre Thanks for the answer. I would expect it to be solved differently, cuz this looks like something broke off to the uninformed.

    hi, what is that thing in the nose, touching water?

    • @hanshans387
      @hanshans387 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      there is a mechanical linkage between the rod hangin down from the bow and the fin horizontal foil angle - the boat sinks, the rod is pushed backwards, increases the foil angle, increases lift.... the hull lifts out of the water, the rod becomes more vertical, the foil angle decreases. balance is eventually found. there is a second horizontal foil on the rudder blade tip, its angle is trimmed by twisting the tiller.

      Cesar Seabra Look up the Waszp!(Yes, with the "z" in it) It's as cheap as a Laser and made by the same guy who's making the Mach 2 foiling moths. The world of foiling moths is about to explode.

      I 100% recommend giving windfoiling a try. Yesterday I did 20 knots max gps speed in 12 knots of a wind. All that at a fraction of the price (£1800 total for my kit).

    Get a cleat for your mainsheet! You're letting it luff because you can't hold onto it consistently!

    • @veggyking3024
      @veggyking3024 ปีที่แล้ว

      these boast are a one design class so you arent allowed to modify them, also you wouldnt want go have a cleat on this boat as that will get you into more trouble than help you
      he is continuously working the main so that he isnt overpowered and can keep the boat stable in the water also i cannot see him luffing all that much in the vid, he is probably an incredibly good sailor who has mastered much of this boat
      if you go watch some more vids of moth and laser sailing you will see that they are continuously adjusting their sails
