February 1st 2022 ~ The Royalcam chick is 6 days old today and weighed in at 460g prior to OGK feeding! That is a 160g weight gain! At this age the weights are constantly fluctuating. They may loose 20g overnight then put on 50g after a feed when this young. Little QT is doing great!!

I can understand why they only breed every two years. The physical toll over 6 months is immense and their devotion to each other and their young is too. Such a loving family unit ❤️🐣🇦🇺
Yes considering they incubate the egg 79 days and then raise their chick for 7.5 months - it takes them almost a year! They have to take a year off in between before doing this again! Bless their hearts!
Just what I "suspected".😂😂😂😊😊😊 I was betting OGK would be back in less than 24 hours. The way he left the nest was a tell-tale sign that he was a little bit "dejected" to be leaving so soon. So endearing to see two devoted parents, nevertheless. I haven't seen any other species do this. ♥️♥️
When OGK unexpectedly fell from the sky, YRK thought it was a juvie or a different albatross and clacked vigorously at him. In milliseconds she realized that he was her beloved and emited a welcome skycall. I am amazed at the level of socialization of these birds. They are pure love. Nice video. Thank you, Lady Hawk!!!
So adorable! It was a magical moment when Mom YRK and Dad OGK's beads almost touched sweet QT. This little baby must have felt so safe, protected and loved by its loving and caring parents. I got the impression that QT recognized its Dad's. (10:25) It was so cute. 😍💕OGK💘QT🐣YRK💕

Hi Bette - Yes and how he/OGK was gone for almost or right at a month due to being injured - could barely walk at all due to leg issue. His Pippa Atawhai was so happy to see him! She'd always get more excited to see him - almost running at times with her vocal noises. I do believe Pippa played a big part in OGK's healing. He made a full recovery.😊 Stephanie
This is definitely another species of bird that is exceptional in parenting. Very affectionate as well. These little ones grow so fast. Hopefully all goes well on the journeys they each take.. safe returns. ❤

Oh My God! These were the sweetest allopreens I've seen between YRK and OGK. Oh, these sweet kisses on each other's necks and heads are so chilling and relaxing. YRK and OGK are so tender and affectionate with each other. I can imagine one saying to the other, "A little more to the left, my love... Now to the right, further down the neck!" And these pinkish bills go massaging each other's neck and head as they kiss gently with tanderness. This is so beautiful, sweet and precious. Every time they meet again, they strengthen their bonds of love and mutual devotion. 😍💕OGK💘YRK💕
They were really giving one another such tender preening sessions! Did you see how gentle they are around the eye area with their big bill? They are very gentle with one another!
Poor OGK was so excited to be home again he crash landed on arrival. But he picked himself up and was just fine ~ just so anxious to see his lady love and little QT. Watching this family always makes me smile! 😀
This is one of the sweetest moments ever. They are almost human-like in their behaviors. The affection is so heartwarming. The chick is adorable, so peaceful with its parents.
