I think they edited out something in the middle that caused the sharks to flip . The pitch seemed to be going horribly and suddenly they had multiple offers
these are regularly 2 hours+ long that they edit down to like 10 - 15 min, wouldn't be surprised

It’s all about the patent. If they get the patents they applied for they’ll have virtually no competition, or will make tons of money simply licensing it

Food service does not pay $15/lb for precooked bacon. I've been in food service for 20 years and that was a bold faced lie. These two are delusional.
It seems like they really entertained this because of the diverse foods that can be developed from seaweed. The bacon itself obviously doesn't taste very good, but I think the sharks see the other implications.

I think there’s way more of a future in cloning/replicating food animals like pigs and cows than there is in trying to find “alternative substitutes”
They can already do it in the lab, but expensive. Even they can make it cheaper, lab grown food contradicts with the concepts of "natural, environmentally friendly, sustainable".

I haven't had beef or pork since spring '97 but why do vegans always want their food to look like meat? Very odd. Put it in the shape of a leaf and call it something new.
Most of them were former meat eaters but due to health reasons they decided to not eat meat anymore and they want to make vegetables that taste like meat

Ridiculous concern, a teeny bit of research would have you know that seaweed can be sustainably grown and you would know there is an overabundance of it already.

Look at what Beyond Meat has done. They’re at the top of the category and they still are yet to become profitable. Their stock is down 95% from its peak. These companies are sold in IPO’s based on hype, the VC’s cash out and the public is left holding the bag. The idea that food is a category where decades-old incumbents can be beaten by ridiculously high cost “healthy” alternatives is ludicrous. EV and sustainable energy companies capitalize on the same story. And for the most part, they are equal earnings losers. The world needs to move away from large scale meat production and fossil fuels, but it’s going to take decades and these companies will not make it to the end. They’re too early, they’re too expensive, and humans are very stubborn consumers of things we’ve known our entire lives (food, cars, etc). I’d bet the farm that this company won’t make it.
