  • Another new guy here today. This old van came to us along with an older ford probe. But the van was cooler so he got the spotlight first. This is a walk around and tour, and this van will go back up for sale ! We hope you enjoy, thank you for watching! Drop a comment down below and let us know what you think.

    I have almost the same van. 1994 Astro work van, 252,000 miles. Bought it from a local salvage yard and drove it home. No rust, tilt wheel, A/C, cruise control, ABS brakes. Put new brake pads and shoes on it, a new serpentine belt, new fuel pump. Drove it from Central Florida to Williston North Dakota pulling a trailer with a Bugeye Sprite on it. Then to Sturgis SD and back home to Florida. Paid $780 for it, have about $400 more into it now. Going to drive her to Sturgis again this year. I love it.

    In college my buddies and I rented one of those. Enterprise had an unlimited mile special if you rented a vehicle for a month. We all chipped in and took a month long trip around the USA during the winter break of 1993. We put 12,000 miles on it! Great vans.

    If the engine stalls on rainy days, run a ground wire from the coil body to a cast iron metal as a ground or the battery negative cable. Put RTV on the distributor cap bottom to seal the cap. Replace the coil and distributor cap and rotor and module.

    Those are great vans! I used to service cars for a living and saw countless 250k+ mile Astros. There was a company that brought them to us and all of them had 250k+ and a couple had over 330k! On ORIGINAL engines, one had a trans rebuilt. Great vans, she's ready to keep working! If anything else Jay, keep it for a yard van!

    We have a few of these in our fleet at work. That back door handle is a very common fail on these vans. I'd be surprised if that's the original transmission. They usually go bad at around 100,000 miles but we do have one that has 175000mi on its original. The 4.3 is definitely the strong point of these vans. Reliable if property cared for and it does get up and go when you need it to.

    damn man, this takes me back, my parents used to have a white '98 Astro AWD and used it as a family van until '09 when that stupid cash for clunkers program came around and they had the perfectly functional van seized and crushed just for a quick buck to get a base model hyundai sedan

  • @PearComputingDevices

    Yeah, I have a 1994 AWD extended, she's in great shape for the year. Only 152k. But that thing stil lhas easily another 50 to 100k before it's genuinely junk yard ready. That old 4.3 V6 just doesn't die. Might stink, might clatter, might even shake. But it will still run. lol

    As others are mentioning, those are vinyl seats rather than leather. When I was younger vinyl was an upgrade option on even top level cars such as the Oldsmobile 98 and the Buick Electra. We called the "dog dish wheel covers" poverty caps. I, too, like that wheel set up. I think Chevy used the same wheel/caps on police cars and cabs in the late 70's to early 90's.

      The sweet spot for that engine in that particular van was 80 mph all day. U would have to watch your speed because it would sneak up to 80 plus without u realizing it.

  • @gosportjamie
    @gosportjamie 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would imagine those seats are probably vinyl rather than leather on a van that basic. But it looks like it was probably maintained pretty well, there's the new alternator under the hood and it also looks like some of the air conditioning service parts have been replaced fairly recently too. It certainly sounds sweet enough, and the fact that it's still wearing all four dog dish hub caps suggest that the owner must have been at least a little careful with it as I'm sure they're pretty easy to lose. It's a bit bashed but how many work vans aren't, they seem to collect dents. I don't imagine fixing the back door handle is too hard a job as long as it opens from the inside and then it'll make someone a useful, cheap van for a year or two, or maybe longer...

  • @Shane-Singleton
    @Shane-Singleton 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like it quite a bit. Guess somebody just didn't need it anymore. Wonder if it was part of a company liquidation. Sure seems to be in pretty good working order. Spend a little time on that roof and she'll be good to go. I'd even repaint those dog dish hubcaps.

    so other then a broken rear door, the custom cage part is broken/not held into place and the rear looks to of been used to transport some animal and the dash is a lil bit broken its in great shape runs and work wonder why it was scraped, normally most vans are pritty much either rusted out to the point were the air con comes from the hole in the floor, or the fact that the engine is busted/broken or its completely knackered as in is only fit for parts
