This is from a mid-80s PBS show, hosted by Laurie Anderson. In the show, Jim Henson and Frank Oz both do voices for Bert & Ernie. Many other cool folks pop up in the show including a young William H. Macy and dance due DanceNoise.

I remember seeing this as a teenager in the mid-80s. The dancers at 22:30 had a huge effect on me, possibly initiating my appreciation of redheads. And fishnets.

Gee-too bad about the ballet. It was going so great but kept getting interrupted, and then didn't quite add up to a great ending. He should re-do the ballet before he gets to old and give it a real hilarious start and then build up to a some unbelievably imaginative and funny ending. ... but no.
