  • I got this Ground Buster drop spreader from JR Metal Products and it was just what I needed to spread pelletized gypsum, lime and fertilizer around my pond and yard.
Check out their website for more info and tell them I sent ya!

Great information as usual. We have attempted to replace our lawn with micro clover to improve soils fixing nitrogen via the plants and reducing our need to mow while maintaining a lush, green expanse. First year was great until the bunnies and deer declared it an open salad bar.! The did spread fertilizer pellets in return. ;-).
Wishing you and your family a blessed Easter celebration. Peace brother

Neil… that’s a great primer on drop spreaders.
We have a small 48” drop spreader and a broadcast spreader. I own one and a buddy owns the other… we trade usage back and forth.
Having a lot of trees and uneven ground I use the broadcaster more. My buddy has a more suburban lawn with strict property lines, decorative shrubs and pavement to worry about… so he favors the drop spreader for most uses.
I do use the drop spreader from time to time… I find it tolerates more wind with less drift. And that comes in handy when using those ‘weed & feed’ applications. It’s also handy when spreading powdered wood ashes or lime. Both of which are readily available and inexpensive here.
My first dinky little broadcaster did not make it to its third season. It taught me two lessons… it doesn’t matter which spreader you own… if you want to own it for very long… you have to wash it thoroughly after every use. The quicker you wash it and dry it out; the less it will corrode.
The second note… store it under cover. Any residues left in any crevice or on any metal surface will only and most assuredly transform it into RUST!
Well, I need to run. Gabby is on a track in the yard… she might be following the trail of the Easter Bunny. I need to distract her with a game of fetch. I hope you and the ladies have a blessed Easter.

Here is a trick attach a square tube receiver to front of the trailer deck get a receiver mounted winch then just winch the wagon on or whatever piece of equipment you need to load that for whatever reason is unable to power itself onto the trailer also if you add a recessed d ring at the tail end you can drag whatever equipment unable to move itself off. You can setup to use a set of jumper cables to operate the winch from either the tow vehicle or via a secondary power vehicle (ex. A certain yellow deere).

I personally love a nice yard, I’ve seen in the past that you used a handheld broadcast spreader, so that’s what I got myself this year, but wanted a much nicer unit with pneumatic tires that much better than the cheap ones at HD an Lowe’s. Now I see with all your tractors you have invested in a huge drop spreader. I’m foaming at the mouth with all your lawn equipment. I wish I had the funds to support such a want, but get by with my small equipment with my small yard. Really enjoy your videos, so interesting seeing what farmers go through just to grow crops.

For folks who are interested in US history and old style technology. I am also watching a channel called EngelsCoachShop and he builds and restores old style wagons. Right now he is in the middle of rebuilding an old manure spreader. And at least to me it is interesting to see how the technology has evolved, and how things are still kind of similar compared to the old technology.
I was not aware that you are a soil specialist by trade. I am highly interested in methods to improve the soil quality, and I follow a lot of projects, big projects but also small privately owned projects, where people are trying to improve the quality from the soil in the desert or a dry land situation. Is permaculture, which uses a lot of natural applications to improve the soil quality, a thing that is on your radar?
For example, are you familiar with Dr. Elaine Ingham, or Dr. David Johnson, or a group called the Carbon Cowboys? All of them are living soil specialists.

Do you have a recipe that stops the grass from growing for those of us who are yard work averse?

Not only do I have a recipe that will stop it from growing this season, we can give you years of care free maintenance with just the right potion. I wouldn't allow any children in the area but you won't have to mow at least.

I definitely fall into group 1. My neighbors, on the other hand, may not know they have yards.

More videos on fertilizer/ soil readings. I’m a lawn so it interests me.
What was the difference between in the woods and your FIL lawn?

    • @digdrivediy
      @digdrivediy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The woods had much more organic matter and better pH, but didn't have wonderful fertility either. We mainly wanted to compare pH levels because Rick had a tool that was reading pH and I didn't believe the results it was showing. The soil tests from the lab suggested his pH reader was likely faulty or giving us inaccurate results.
