It’s terrifying yet oddly beautiful
it was not beautiful. it was the worst of the pandemic, as if what ELSE could go wrong.
That was such a surreal experience. That's something you only see in movies. But, it was real.
I live in Lower Nob Hill, looked out my window about 10 AM. Whoa! I thought it looked super cool, actually.
yeah, i remember waking up and seeing that deep orange sky. never have i ever seen anything like it…i was in south san francisco and i just couldn’t believe what i was seeing. there was a fire right behind our house on a large hill. for a southern girl who’s dealt with hurricanes, tornados, and now earthquakes…this was the scariest of them all.
Funny to see a video about something I experienced myself. Was a crazy day.

I’m in the East Bay, it was a bizarre day! The streetlights were on until noon, and the birds didn’t wake up til about the same time. The quietness was unnerving.

Long Beach, CA (500 miles south) turned orange too. Ashes were EVERYWHERE and the air quality was terrible for days following.
That’s crazy but the air quality this day in San Francisco wasn’t terrible it was actually good according to the air quality index. And a natural San Francisco phenomenon (fog)

Most color photos were taken digitally and were color corrected by the phone camera. It really was RED. Terrifying. My cat walked outside, had a look, turned around and ran back inside.
Second time I've ever seen this. First time was Cedar fires back in the day, when San Diego's skies were blood red. Waking up to this brought me back to being a little kid.
Live in Oregon, and wow was this the most terrifying experience in my life, thank god our house didn’t burn down… (we’re in a new house now but yeah, was a very dark time with although a pretty looking sky, a terrifying story behind its colors…)
Happened too in Seattle August 2020 into September was eerie especially with everything that was happening with CoVid and wildfires across the west coast

It was actually dark until about noon, when it turned orange.

I remember waking up at 5 am seeing the sky orange in the summer thought it was nothing, but here we are...
I remember that, I live in Richmond and it was like almost darkness all day it reminded me of a movie called night of the comet that if I recall had this tent of orange to it 740 till the end of the movie it was a weird day and the conditions were just right for an event of that nature and unfortunately it is quite possible that it will happen again

That was one weird day.
I remember not hearing a single bird when I woke up that day, the little bit of light coming in through the window was red like a Coke can. I remember trying to take a picture of it but my phone kept trying to color correct.
The lack of birdsong was so eerie.
Nature had fun with the temperature slider in Adobe Lightroom.
Honestly, it made for some of the most incredible photography I've ever seen in my life
I remember waking up in Santa Rosa that morning, and the sky really was very dark. That was the craziest thing for me. It was barely more light out then than during the night. The red glow scared me out of my mind (maybe I've watched a bit too much science fiction). I now call that day "Mars Day" for the color of the sky and the heavily reduced level of sunlight.
This should be in history book man this day was crazy

When I woke up I didn’t see cause I had class on zoom then I look and smoke was covering our backyard and I was shocked I thought there was fire next store but there wasn’t

I remember those days. I live in San Jose and we also had skies like this. A pandemic going full strength and then orange skies and fires all around us. Felt like the end of the world literally.

I wonder if tree planting has increased in California since that strange event. Is the population of the state working to replace all the trees that burn each year? Did the scare of Orange Day prompt new initiatives to get more trees in the ground?
Trees grow themselves. It’s a natural occurrence.
The trees are burning faster than we can replace and grow them. It literally looks like another planet
It was so dark I literally thought I slept through the whole day and woke up at night. I remember the time on the DVR said like 10 or 11 and I totally panicked thinking I slept all day until 10 or 11PM. The sunlight usually starts to get me up in the morning and obviously that didnt happen that day. Frankly, I was a little bit panicked and disoriented
I had a dream like this.

I doubt lawn watering is one the major water wasters.
I remember this all too well it looked so ugly and I stayed outside for a minute and noticed how much ash was on everything outside.

This day was unbelievable, unprecedented, surreal and apocalyptic enough without trying to tie a weather event to climate change. Everything isn't climate change. Do your homework, reporters.
