I picked up the older model, but self propelled, for $200 used today. Good deal, not a great deal. In pretty great shape and perfect for my rental property. Ready to operate for the renter, a female who has never mowed a yard in her life.

I've had the older model with the 5amp battery for 2 years now and I'm loving it i have a bad shoulder and elbow and I like how easy it starts, lightweight and how it folds for easy storage it doesn't take much space i just wish the mower could have gone lower than 1 inch to cut .

@@RichieColemanSr I know this is 8 months old, but I've been testing the 60v Toro 22" Recycler against the Ego Select Cut XP. No real difference in speed, cut quality at lower settings, or mulching/bagging performance. The Ego's got bigger batteries available to it, and comes with the biggest battery available, only meaningful advantages. Whereas the Toro is less expensive, has better suction, cuts better at higher settings, better handlebar ergonomics. The Ego is also too light for self propelled to be worth while. I've got a somewhat bumpy yard, and using self propelled just makes the mower bounce. The button is also in a bad location for ergonomics, and the whole handlebar kinda sucks.
I got one because I have a hill on the side of my house. 30 days in its been returned to have the self propel gears replaced. It's not really durable. It's good for like a townhouse or a house with a flat yard.
I would like to get a battery mower at some point. But I have some thick green grass that grows fast. Will even bog down my Honda self propelled mower. I can't see a battery one having enough power for me
Grass down in Houston can look like a jungle in days after a good rain. I know he lives somewhere further north, but that grass wasn't beginning to emulate what we've got down here. Like you said, I've had to make multiple passes with the front up at times to stop it from bogging my mower down before.
I hate the plastic little tabs that hold the bag on the previous gen. That’s what I have now and it falls off all the time, especially on hills. The new one has clips that hold it in the channel.
Would you be willing to purchase an “off-brand” 40v battery for testing? You can find replacement 6ah batteries for $100 which is a great deal if they are any good..
Try double checking the handle locks making sure you have the handle correctly locked in all spaces. And make sure the lid over the battery compartment is completely closed. I know im extremely late commenting but i had the same issue one of the handles was just a bit loose so it would start than turn off. I just purchased the push version of this at Home Depot tonight, the battery is huge, like my Johnson, but like 723 other posted comments on Google and TH-cam, the new version also stops after about 1-2 minutes and has to be started again. It is well documented about extending the handle and making sure the bag or mulcher are set properly but that is way too many complaints. Im returning mine tomorrow. I wanted so bad for this one to work because the battery alone I could use on my 3 other Ryobi products but the Monkey fix or workaround is ridiculous so returning and now will chop at Harbout freight since the HD Ryobi rep said they never heard of the over 700 complaints regarding sudden stops.
Don't get Ryobi, I got both Ego and Ryobi. Ryobi started to show signs of aging after two months of use, Ego not budging at all. Plus the ego blade setup is way better and much cleaner cut. Ego battery seem to go a little further too.
I've had my RY40109 for a year and a half now, and other than being dusty (from being stored in the garage), with a bit of grass debris here and there, it looks brand new. I have roughly 1/3 an acre of land that I mow, and it powers through +6" grass (when we have an extended period of rain, the grass grows like crazy) without any issue. I use a single 5Ah and 4Ah battery, along with the 40v trimmer, and usually still have a bar (or two) left on the batteries when I'm done. I was going to buy the Ego mower first, but Home Depot was out (even though inventory showed three). I am not disappointed in the RY40109 at all... :)
