  • Trust in teammates runs deeper than just on the court. Dooley found acceptance and support after telling his team the struggles of his life.

Great video. Glad to see his team embraced him unequivocally. Hopefully someday soon, these type of stories will be a non-issue.

Few can understand the physical and emotional separation one feels when fearing rejection and judgment merely because of how you were born. As a former tennis player its strange how I look at Matt and see myself many years ago but sadly I didn’t trust that coming out would relieve me of this distrust or potential danger. It was another time but one thing is still true that being an athlete and different places a burden on you that you either face or hide from. I am glad for Matt he was able to face it and move past the potential ramifications. He found he was valued by his teammates more than judgment could be. Congrats!

Hey folks, this is one man's journey, one man's experience, and apparently it has been a positive one for him. The institution may be dreck, but his team mates & coaches are supporting him. He is not talking about the church, he is talking about HIS personal environment. And kudos to him, & to them, for that.

My experience with coming out has shown me that most people will surprise you with there understanding and acceptance. Its only a few ignorant or self hating closet cases that have a problem.

I'm 13 and Matt use to play high school tennis in new braunfels with my older brother for four years and he didn't act gay or anything

It's disappointing that we still need to make video announcements whenever someone comes out as gay. Millions of Americans are gay and it's not anything bizarre or newsworthy. The way people live their personal lives is nobody's business but their own.
