    Great idea! I use 3 inch balls, so I made my marks on a ribbon instead of paper and I can reuse the ribbon many times. These lines help a lot when making fabric ornaments.

    I use the rough Styrofoam balls for my ornaments so you can't see the pin holes. I used your technique with the paper strip and just sniped a small hole at the fold lines. I was able to mark my poles and equator by sticking my sharpie in the holes of the paper strip. I did a whole bag of balls in about 20 minutes! Thanks for the idea!

    Cool thanks. I'm going to make a small clear ball for my Loomis Head drawings. This will help to make the markings.

    How can I draw a line over a wooden ball?

    • @ornamentdesigns
      @ornamentdesigns  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe you can use tape instead of pins to hold your paper strips in place? Not sure. I never work with wood.

    I just started making kimekomi. Good tute; thanks for posting. I'm keeping this on a playlist to come back over and over, and will look forward to your other videos. One friendly constructive criticism, if I may: your instructions are good, your tone is even and nice to listen to...but the "uh's" and "um's" are very distracting. "Filler" words (including "like" and "y'know") make a speaker sound less confident, and less knowledgeable. But you actually know A LOT!!!
    Here's a free tip from a speech coach: (and fellow teacher): Count the total "uh's" and "um's", then divide by the minute length of your video/presentation/speech. If you set a goal of cutting that number in half the next time, you'll be an even BETTER tutorial diva than you already are! Keep up the great work, and happy ornament making! :)

      +M K Martin I agree with you. I'm a work in progress. Especially when I'm going unscripted. The habits we pick up as teenagers sometimes stick with us forever. Quitting smoking was easier than quitting saying "like" every other word.
      Funny story... My husband is Japanese and he picked up the "like" habit from me back when we were still dating. Luckily one of his college ESL instructors realized what was happening and put a stop to it. Now my husband is the "like" police. He even gives me hell when I'm using it properly and not as a filler. lol

      +Ornament Designs, I know what you mean. For me, the "um's" were very hard to let go. BTW, I'm impressed by the way you handle constructive criticism...but even more impressed by your creative talent. I am excited to try your method for marking the foam shapes. And you should know that your website was REALLY inspiring; I absolutely loved your "fire" themed kimekomi. Japan must be amazing; I lived overseas for a few years and loved (almost) every minute of the expat experience. Good luck, and happy crafting!

      When I started reading this comment, I got quite annoyed.
      But then I read on and realized that your criticism was actually constructive and very useful advice for many areas of life.
      In the end, some praise is in order :)
      Thank you!

      Glad you found it useful. I agree with you about the lip smacking. I've tried to improve my tech situation for my newer videos to reduce that kind of thing but it's a work in progress.

      Growing up, my parents taught me that only boring people get bored easily.
      But you aren`t just boring. You are also very bad-mannered, and that can`t be concealed, not even by the best and heaviest of makeups.

      Disturbing? Wouldn’t you feel better about yourself if you just turned it off rather than criticize someone who I think does a great job.
