      There are some theory's that zombies aren't actually dead it is caused by a virus that effects the brain that causes thier behavior of flesh eating and grunting slower movement etc... If you think about the fact that since they will probably injure themselves cuts broken limbs etc.. while in a zombie state and don't get help or medical Attention they will get infection or loss of circulation wich can then cause dieing of the tissue wich can then cause decomposition of the body therefore you get a zombie that is decomposing but also living wich makes it possible for it to move and have senses.

      The start of the video makes a huge number of assumptions. Most depictions of Zombies indicate a functioning brain stem, which imply functioning heart, lungs and basic bio-functions. Possibly even a fully functional digestive system.

    First time I saw rigor mortis for real was when my dog died. We dug his grave but we couldn't move his legs from the position they were when he passed away. We were afraid to break them by forcing them to bend so we had to dig a little more to make room for his legs.
    I will never forget that feeling of coldness and stiffness from where there was previously warmth and softness.

    The traditional zombie is impossible, but zombies with a parasitic infection would work. Not fungal though, that would spread to the other parts of the body and eat it.
    If a parasite goes to the brain, tells the brain to keep its body from decomposing, recognize other people (prefrontal cortex), tells the brain to eat people (also prefrontal cortex), and take control of the parts of the areas of the brain so it can feel, hear, smell, touch, and see, it would technically work. It would only work for a few hours though before the parasite consumes most of the prefrontal cortex.

  • @ryptoll4801
    @ryptoll4801 ปีที่แล้ว +49

    I think the belief in zombies mostly just comes from the (very common) fear of death, tbh. Death is scary, and sad, and it would just be that much more horrifying if your buried loved ones came back to life but as a twisted version rather than as themselves. It would be a loss worse than death, and more terrifying because a zombie is a creature you can't kill, considering it's already dead. The idea of zombies bring up this incredibly difficult question of: would we rather want our buried loved ones to stay dead, or to live, but as monsters? I think a belief in zombies is kinda like an irrational fear, possibly the fear of that we won't find peace after death. No, I don't believe in zombies, as I already knew about brain death, but it's still a scary thought no matter how much I know that rationally, zombies are impossible.

    A remark that classical undead zombies are considered would be better mentioned at the beginning.
    Because there are parasites (not in human) which makes their hosts behave strangely so the host could be called zombie very aptly. The most famous is cordyceps in ants, but toxoplasmosis in rodents is also fun.

    I kinda got to see a body go through Rigor Mortis. My grandfather once ran over a jackal (with the full intent of killing it, they're pests on farms) and decided to bring it home to show us. It was really cool and there wasn't a lot of blood so we got to open its mouth, stare at its eyes and teeth and feel its fur as well as seeing how the muscles move. And we noticed how it became harder and harder to move. In the end we chopped off the head and boiled it down to keep the skull as well as a tuft of hair from its tail. The skull is now the home for my pet geckos and I sadly lost the tuft.

      The human brain is waaaaaaay to complex for that to happen, even the cordyceps fungi doesn't have that level of control over an ant. Also the cordyceps does actually kill its host after about a day. The body can't be sustained if its hosting something so invasive. Plus on top of that lets say the impossible did happen and something could control humans and make them hyper aggressive and then defied nature and didn't kill its host straight away, well the infected would still die within days from exposer, dehydration and starvation and on top of that, why wouldn't infected just attack each other, if they're that aggressive they'd attack anything, including other infected and wipe themselves out. Be happy zombies of any kind are impossible, a real zombie apocalypse would be absolutely horrendous.

    • @connorbaird8596
      @connorbaird8596 3 ปีที่แล้ว +229

      @Thanny Stormtrooper No I'm afraid this is not correct at all. The cordyceps fungi, aka ophiocordyceps unilaterally, does not replace the brain at all, in fact it doesn't even enter the insect's brain. Instead it infects the muscles affecting the nervous system, manipulating movement completely separate from the brain. Rabies doesn't compell you to bite anyone, as a matter of fact most rabies victims are bed ridden invalids who often die of dehydration from the hydrophobia caused by the virus. They aren't a threat to anyone.
      On the origins of zombies, they come from Haitian voodoo mythology. Traditional zombies are people who are put under a spell by a witch doctor. As a matter of fact they are some what real, as voodoo practitioners do indeed have zombie creation rituals where they will heavily drug a victim with certain concoctions, sort of like a truth serum, leaving them so shit faced high that they will then be essentially a thrall for the witch doctor who did this to them. Its actually a really tragic practice that is very damaging to the victim. So please in future don't go spreading misinformation, even if it's about something as trivial as zombies.

    Oh btw
    I was studying evolution (human evolution to be exact)and the early humans (homo erectus eructus something) performed cannibalism
    (Which basically means eating someone of the same species) and so I did a bit of research on cannibalism (cause my textbook didn’t have enough) and I found out that the early humans died of cannibalism because of brains…
    Yeah like even modern day old societies that still performed cannibalism (as a way to respect their dead relatives , yeah they ate their own relatives after death cause they thought as long as the body still remains the soul can’t really you know go to heaven or whatever) they stopped like a few decades ago because the brain apparently has something (I think the neurotransmitters) that would act as poison and the person who ate a human brain would… die duh!
    So my point here is if you eat a human brain it acts as poison so how is this the favourite food of zombies?
    What? They like stuff that can kill them?

    I feel like the "Days Gone" zombie virus can actually work IRL because the infected (freakers), although being braindead and attack non infected, its been confirmed by the NERO Dialogue (one of the factions on the game) that the Freaker still eat and drink water (infact their bodies evolved to digest more things and eat stuff like grass, berries and just stuff a deer would eat) and they also retain some sort of Vestigial memory (Its implied that the freakers still change/wear different clothes)
    The same thing goes for the Green Flu In Left 4 Dead, It essentially acts like a zombie virus, except it causes the infected to hallucinate, in the comics, we can see that the infected see non infected people as demonic entities, which drives them to attack them. So basically those 2 are the only zombie viruses that could actually work or at-least make some sense

    Zombies is more of a term referring to an undead than literally an undead. An undead only exists through magic. A zombie is actually a living being, without advanced intellectual functions, that doesn't feel pain, that feels the need to feed (despite being unable to absorb nutrients), and also incapable of cellular regeneration. A zombie is an irreversible death process, but very very slowly, as most systems have stopped working, and their energy needs are minimal.

A lot of people could potentially die/become infected in such a scenario, but I can't see it ending civilisation, or even lasting particularly long. The rage virus is unrealistically infectious, too. The absolute minimum time to "turn" would be a few hours, because biology simply doesn't operate fast enough to go from getting a droplet of blood in your eye to being a raging lunatic in seconds.
