I'm taking 9 of this gabapentin a day 300 mg each 💊 even I sleep 3- 4 hrs a day and I have one meal a day wow i need to get off of this crap
@DivisionFree 83 They're brilliant amigo! You can get a good 1 for around £/$30-40. For this money you can get 1 you can set to come on in the morning. I use one during Winter (I have bipolar disorder) for at least half an hour a day. When I switch it off I crave it! Even my birds are livelier/happier with a little exposure to it☺️👍🏻
So, I was prescribed 4000mg/day...(800mg/5xday) and was on it for over 4 years... But... now I'm almost 3 months off of it completely, and I did the taper in about 6-7 days, and included one, legal, super awesome ingredient to combat the withdrawals and seizure. Interested?
@@josemartinez-vp7do Hey, man... You need help? I WAS on 800mg / 5 times a day (4000mg/day). I was taking it for over 4 years. But, now I've been completely clean of it for almost 3 months now!!!
Wanna know how I did that?
@@ReadingInRedding thank you but I only takes them as needed I can go 2-4 months with no problem
Damn they didn’t even let him finish. I wanted to know what else Dr Travis felt
This medication has been a miracle for me! I only take it before bed. It helps me have deep wave sleep, it stops my restless legs, and I no longer have long bouts of anxiety ridden REM sleep, which used to cause me to feel exhausted after a full night’s sleep. I take a 300mg capsule. Just because other people abuse it doesn’t make it a bad drug. It helps a lot of people.
I started taking Gabapentin for nerve pain . I also take at bedtime and I feel great in the morning!
Amen brother i take 3 gabapentin 300 mg a day for my sciatica and other nerve pain from the osteoarthritis in my spine and it helps i wish the left would stop attacking the shit that helps people like us
That’s how it starts but it doesn’t last for a lot of people, it becomes ineffective and when you try to stop you go through a hell like withdrawal that I nicknamed “mind rape” be careful.
I was given this for alcohol withdrawals

Its important to educate about pros and cons about meds. its not good to spread mass hysteria and paranoia.
My brother was on this for years he shot himself two months ago I suspected this was responsible for his strange and odd behavior everyone thought he was just drunk but his doctor enabled him to abuse this drug for years and I now believe it was ultimately responsible for his death.
Yes that's so true.
I absolutely agree, this medication has its uses and just because junkies are misusing it to get high they spread fear to the masses. I had a severe disc extrusion with spinal compression, and I was prescribes opiates and muscle relaxers which unfortunately did very little for the nerve pain. Gabapentin has been the only thing that has been able to give me relief, so much so that I don't take the opiates or muscle relaxers anymore.
SO TRUE taking large amounts of drugs, like inflation, is a bad thing, 93,000 in 2020 died of overdose,,,, this admin talks about drug overdoses all the time, oh wait, sorry that was trump.
@@tigeralderman283 Trump campaigned on opioid crisis but failed to accomplish his promises
No regulations !!! Please do not do this to gabapentin, it's already hard enough for people with legitimate pain to get the proper medicine...I'm disgusted by the way people have been treated who have a legitimate reason for opiates and now you are going to make it the same for gabapentin!!!
As soon as I start getting my pain managed my meds are taken away because of bs like this.
Its regulated in mass...what a friggen joke.
Yep. We are suffering
Almost all drugs have side effects

I completed six rounds of chemo which caused horrible itching, burning and stabbing neuropathy in both of my arms. I was scratching so bad I was drawing blood! When it wasn't itching and burning it felt like there were insects crawling around under my skin. Two doses of gabapentin and I can already tell the difference. This drug saved my skin...and sanity!
i have pretty bad anxiety and suffer with ptsd and ocd. i was prescribed gabapentin 100mg and wow, this has honestly changed so much for me. my paranoia and obsessive thinking are almost nonexistent throughout the day and i get so much done and i feel great- honestly happy!!! and stable! it’s amazing. i’m so happy i started this.
Update please, is it still working?

Wow only 100 mgs. Was that 100 mgs a day? Any at bedtime? How are you now and has the dose gone up?
I really appreciate you're talking about this drug. I became addicted to it. I fell in May 2020, I broke my ankle in 3 places. I was put into a cast that was changed intermittently. At 7 weeks my foot and leg felt fine. At about 9 weeks in the cast my foot started to swell and the cast was painful. I called the dr office and they said to put my foot up and rest it. So I did for another 2 weeks. I went in and they removed the cast. It hurt so bad to wash my leg and foot. I couldn't put any lotion on. The dr diagnosis when he saw my foot is complex regional pain syndrome. This is an insidious disease. I was prescribed gabapenten 900 MG. But I could only take 300. So I took that medication for a year. I spent a year in a fog. Yelling and screaming at the universe, blaming everyone and everything for my injury, and the fact I was so out of it. A few weeks ago I noticed that if I didn't take my medication at the same time of day I would shake. I realized that I am addicted to these drugs the Dr's have been been giving me. That made me mad all over again. So I stopped slowly taking the gabapenten I'd cut 100 mgs a week until I just stopped. I was also on duloxetine and requip. I stopped the duloxetine also. My head is clearer, but my pain is incessant and vicious at times. I'd rather deal with the pain than be on a drug that I would come to not be able to live without.
Check out your teeth too
You do realize that you went into horrible withdrawal and THEN your body needed medication for the pain and still does. Probably a different nerve medication like Lyrica. With any chronic pain, we have to guinea pig with medications and treatments like physical therapy to find balance. Even a different diet helps. All those together add up to percentages of a livable life.
If it wasn't for me taking gabapentin 3x a day I could not get out bed. If it doesn't work for you don't take it. Talk to your doctor about it.
IT HAS SAFED MY LIFE AND JOB.

This is a very dangerous mood altering drug my brother used it for years and we just lost him to suicide be very careful.
I was prescribed this crap. I didnt take one pill because I did my research. Now my doctor is balking at giving me a damn lidocaine patch. Do they teach doctors how to treat patients with disrespect and zero compassion at med school these days? I'm a fifty year old female furniture mover in the freezing cold. You snotty people can go move your own damn furniture, do your own sheetrock, do your own concrete work. I think it's FUNNY the young generation refuses to work. If I would have known when I was young I would be treated like a damn slave and given zero pain relief when I got older, I NEVER would have worked hard a day in my life either.
People do drugs; who cares! End the drug war, start helping people that are addicted and want help.

A drug is a drug . I take gabapentin 300mg twice a day . But one time in my life I took 600mg 3 times a day and lost my 20/20 vision. I weaned myself off for a year. And my doctor put me back on. I have my 20/20 back. I did not have crazy withdrawals because I took smaller doses and kept up with my doctor appointment. Everyone has different reactions to medication. What works for me might not work for others. Some people can take Tylenol and some can’t. But if you mis manage a prescription by not following the instructions then you caused that problem all by yourself. There’s side effects to all medications especially if you don’t know how to take them. . Learn how certain foods can interact with your prescription and even too much sun exposure can interact with your medications. There are too many health websites to be ignorant on how to take a prescription, you also get pamphlets with each prescription..
You seem like a person who has understanding, and i do agree those who need it should get it.
Having been somewhere though where it was pushed on me and everyone else i met in the hospital was on it, you can see my questioning if they are using it properly or as if it was a wonder drug. ( I wish I was exaggerating something seemed odd expecially how hippa was to protect them, "dont talk to eachother about meds none of thats allowed"... bfs pardon my french, but we are the ones on this and it is to protect us not you from getting in trouble for doing something. No matter how many times they told us people kept bringing me info and nonr of it looked promissing so i took none of the options and roughed it out.)
I had a close family member on it before and i can almost guarantee it would make me like them, novicane doesn't work on both of us. This family member was to best put it drugged up to heck on it, so you can see where im very happy that i didn't take it, but do you see where some of us can wonder if its being used properly, and can i have your input on if it might already be being abused and if there is a way other then legal that would be likely to make people who are abusing it now to fix their ways?

I took gabapentin for anxiety for about 6 months. It helped to calm me without changing my personality. After that time, I decided I wanted to wean myself off. I did so with no side effects. Gabapentin is, by far, the best antidepressant that I have ever found. Years of trying different antidepressants yielded little to no results, but gabapentin almost immediately began helping me. What a letdown to see professionals fear-monger like this. People are already terrified enough of drugs and now they’re being told to stay away from what is generally the safest option available at the moment. For anyone looking into it, I just want to say that every medication has its dangers, and you absolutely should educate yourself on them, but gabapentin is not the next oxy.
How do u know?
Weed is better
@Mitch for one thing... it's the go to meds that doctors prescribe when coming off opiods, benzos, meth,...I know because I worked on a rehab ward and administered this medicine. It's nothing like methadone...
Gabapentin....is an anticonvulsant, analgesic and anxiolytic properties suggest that it increases GABAergic inhibition;... therefore it's used to treat anxiety and pain, some doctors prescribe it as a mood stabilizer...although that's rare.
I don't think they're fear mongering, just explaining the risks
The day I started taking gabapentin my life changed. The withdrawal is unbelievable. I'd give anything to go back. I got myself here but I don't know how to get out

It took me 6 months to wean off this drug. It’s been a couple of years since your post and I hope you’re doing better
I took Gabapentin for years for Trigeminal Neuralgia, stopped taking it when it stopped helping. I didn't go through withdrawal, though. Cymbalta is the drug that almost killed me. Withdrawal is still ongoing after 4 months. Still have extreme nausea, sweating, dizziness, fainting, and vision problems. The worst symptom is that I constantly think about suicide.
My mom went through it. Trimenual neuropathy will take you to the breaking point. She did 2 rounds of radiation and it didn't help. She started acupuncture 2 months ago. The pain was worse for a week then she started healing. Please try it. Shes doing great
I'm going to try it for my trigeminal neuralgia anxiety and depression I'm kind of scared after reading some of these comments 😵
Cymbalta is absolutely the worst.
Oh my God, I hope you're doing fine now. SSRIs or SNRIs really do have a hard withdrawal, don't work for a lot of people (I read on wiki it only works 30% of the people taking it) and can have SEVERE side effects like loosing yourself and higher risk of suicide. It's horrific.
Gabapentin made my dad suicidal. He always wanted to die while on this horrible drug. He eventually died slowly.
Well.... The doctor prescribed it but never mentioned tapering. These are capsules, so not sure how I would if I needed to.
The people who abuse drugs, ruin it for the people who REALLY NEED THESE DRUGS,OPIATES INCLUDED!! IT'S NOT FAIR!! I'm housebound because of these cut backs on opiates!!
If it's that bad you can always go to the crappy Methadone Program you'll never get off of that! I've been off of it for almost 8 months and holy crap what a withdrawal on it for almost 9 years does work good for pain if your condition is that bad I hate to recommend methadone but I see more and more pain patients coming in there when I was leaving because their doctors and cut them off! Of there opiates 🙏
This medication stopped me from killing myself, I was at my wits end with my pain, fibromyalgia, due to trapped nerves at c6,7. t was the only thing that worked and I feel normal again.
It does have euphoric effect on me but I got used to it, if I miss it for a period the side effect are sever. So I try not to miss it, The UK have recently classified this drug so I can only get it presribed in monthly doses, which really isn't a big deal
I'm on gabapentin and it helps me so much. I have ME, fobro and trigeminal neuralgi. This medication has really helped manage pain. It's easy for those not in pain to criticise. Obviously I would love to be well and not taking it, but that's not the case and fibro pain is so bad we need any help we can get.
Similar for me. Here's to normal heath and happiness!
Thankyou for sharing. I have stenosis, spurs, and pinched nerves
This drug WILL make you want to kill yourself. That is a known side effect.
I have been on and off of gabapentin for almost 20 years. I use it for nerve pain. It works better for nerve pain than any opiate. I also use pain medication with it from time to time but I have never noticed it increasing the effects of the opiates. I am prescribed 300-900 mg three times a day. I do not understand why this medication is being abused, as I have never had any euphoric effects from it. But then again, there always seems to be someone out there that will abuse whatever they can. Gabapentin was an absolute life saver when I had an infected tooth.

So, you mean every single TV show lies?
No belive all that shtttt I'm on gab been on for 6 years and I'm trying to get off and feel Like I'm dying I had no idea I would go thru this I took gab for anxiety and sense I been trying to get off it I been very sick PLZ NEVER USE GAB
Gabapentin helps my nerve pain in my groin and back ease up.
I’m disabled and it’s the only thing that makes my pain somewhat tolerable
The sad part of your comment is at some point they will do with this drug what they did with opioid pain patients and remove you from it or reduce you down so low the medications have no effect anymore. I wish you the best of luck but the writing is on the wall if you are a pain patient or an addict they don't care about you in America. I hope you live in Europe for your sake.
Order some Kratom
Gabapentin many years ago I took it. From the very first pill I took I started shaking my. mother said it sound like I was speaking in tongues. I was shaking so bad that I felt like I was having a seizure. Now they put my mom on it and she didn't have it this past week when we were in the hospital and she was getting sick. I can remember the side effects of that med and that was more than 10 years ago. They offered to give it to me again and I refused. I'm trying to get my mom off of it. they offered her Lyrica and she wasn't sure but I said to her side effects not as bad as taking that Gabapentin. She gets so drowsy and so out of it that I feel so bad that I want to cry cuz my mom looks like and drug addict when she takes it. I just know the side effects are horrible ,chronic headaches, throwing up, chills and still had my pain.
Adore Ivette loo
But,,,,,,that doesn't happen to everybody.
Its destroyed my very healthy mother. Dont take it, please
It is destroying my very healthy mother too. And we don't know what to do!!!! Damn you doctors for prescribing this shit!.....
was there a neurologist on this clown panel?
Not one
I know right.
Well Gabapentin is the only thing that helps me be able to walk. Unfortunately with diabetic neuropathy I'm stuck with it.
I have peripheral neuropathy my question is did it cause u weight gain at all. Cuz I am on it for like 2 yrs and I find it hard to loose weight even with dieting
Nothing wrong with taking gabapentin. I was in the same fix as you one were. Thumbs up to you!
I’ve got a brain tumor and am also stuck with it. However I’ve managed to cut down significantly using CBD, which I suspect could be very useful for people trying to withdraw and particularly as an initial alternative to gabapentin as a pain reliever, especially since the CBD withdrawal effects are *significantly* less harsh.
I have a ankylosing spondylitis and fibromyalgia. I’ve been on gabapentin 300 mg for about 5 years and I’ve never had any problems.
Undoubtedly the low dose you take is very helpful
I had a life threatening attack of Transverse Myelitis in 2014. I was paralyzed from the neck down and lost my ability to breathe on my own. This left me with severe deficits and BAD nerve pain in my hands and feet. I take 800mg 3 to 4 x's a day. Without it I would not have a life.
I also suffer from t.m lost all function from breast down been almost 6 years now I been prescribed lyrica at first then went to gaba because insurance doesn't cover lyrica anymore
Three herniated lumbar disks, + spinal stenosis.
I take 200-300 mgs of Gabapentin every day.
Helps a lot.
Skip it once in a while if I can. No bad downside to doing that.
I don't have a dependency.
If DEA raises this to narcotic, that would be a horrible blow to a lot of good people.
The young people taking Gab to get a high are totally selfish, ruin it for people who need it.
I love my gabapentin
mm kl is it addictive are you feeling dependent on it
I like my Gabapentin.
Wish it would help with my restless leg
Aww it's mutual babe
Actually way more honesty here then I imagined. 4yrs later still plenty peeps saying no withdrawal this is a nasty Withdrawal far worse then most think sometimes don't know till to late ..
My Dr had me on 600mg Gabapentin 4 times a day for over three years and i gave it up cold turkey and i had no problem. Side effects while on it was much worse, raised my estrogen levels and my testosterone dropped, put on weight with it. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone
I take it at night just 800 MG and no problems. I have weaned myself of a couple times and no problems there either. To be honest I don't know if I feel any different taking it. I am 75 and take it for pain.
I got put on Gabapentin after my PCS symptoms didn't go away after a few months. It's honestly caused me to become someone I'm completely not. It made my thinking even more delayed than what it already was, and made me so angry. I'm trying to wein off of it rn and it's the absolute worst.
I'm taking it to try to ease withdrawl symptoms right now. I wonder if I will get depwndant on it taking it for just 10 days
@@978eric3 just watch your self and be careful
They love to prescribe gabapentin it's like a hit
I have syringomyelia and Chairi I malformation.
I went from being athletic to not being able to walk unassisted for several months. The pain is not normal it's beyond what I can bear. I have passed kidney stones without medication, labored for 24 hours and 32 hours without epidural. This is a pain that i can't manage without pain medicine.
Who wants to feel like they are in a fog all day = gabapitamine? Opiads have there place, believe it or not some people do NOT abuse their medication, some of us always have left over medication. We just want to survive and live.
I am so over everybody being lumped into 1 catagory = drug abusers!
Why can't professional in the medical community come up with a way to test for people who will abuse and people who will be saved by opiates? My medication helps me live my life.
The tricky part about this problem with Gabapentin is that doctors are not being told that there is even an addiction potential! Whether it be called dependence, addiction or even physiological tolerance, they all mean the same thing. When the body adjusts to any med, abused or not, it becomes dependent on it. This drug is taking lives because it is being given to people for a myriad of psychological conditions (depression, anxiety, bi-polar, etc), and only a minority have any benefit from it for the reason which it was prescribed, and at that, the dose must is often increased by the doctor with a 'more is better' way of thinking.
All in all, for most, the problem really begins to manifest itself, regardless of the condition which the Gabapentin was first described, when the patient is taken off of it, either by tapering, or just cold turkey (very bad). Withdrawal is, most of the time, for most people, VERY painful, mentally, physically and spiritually.
I am in the same boat. It's horrible to be made a statistic JUST because we are in pain!
JND 0630 - Amen !
phils95cobra - Bullshit !
Pain meds are meant to relieve pain.
Actually there is a test my pain management Dr asked if I was interested in finding out through my DNA & a few other factors, I was happy to do it. I’m surprised that no other pain clinics are offering it. Basically there are 4 levels, A B C D.
No worries you cannot fail the test.
Fast metabolism absorbs the medication faster & is flushed away, this helps the dr the patient to realize that this patient needs higher doses or w/e is needed to help, & the dr doesn’t think that maybe they are just wanting more, or lying, so why isn’t everyone asked to participate. Good to know, tight?
I take for chronic knee pain and my lumbar back is this meds okay for me
Drugs affect everyone differently. And you can become dependent on almost anything... Especially if it helps deal with a problem. Benadryl for allergies. Etc...
So don't abuse it!!!!!!
I’m alarmed listening to this discussion. I have been on Gabapentin for about four years and I have never been “high or suicidal thoughts etc. I also have altered with direction of doctor to increase or decrease and have never had a withdrawal of any sort. I sleep wonderful, function great with my chronic pain as a result of Gabapentin. Listening to this makes me think that everyone must experience the drug in many different ways, for me it’s been a wonderful game changer with pain.
I'm on the stuff too. Glad to hear from someone that hasn't had a bad time with it.
I have been dealing with nerve pain & sleepless night for years without any medications by choice for the very reason of dependency. I recently developed Shingles & experienced the WORST pain in my life. After a trip to ER for the excruciating pain I was sent home with pain patches, hydrocodone & muscle relaxers which barely minimized the pain. After a follow up visit with PCP I was prescribed gabapentin which took about a full week before I actually felt any relief & sleep had improved 100%. Here I am 4 weeks into Shingles and actually functioning. I now desire to get off of the gabapentin as I hate taking ANY pharmaceutical drug. Has anyone else been on gabapentin short term and have any valuable information they can offer as to how they felt coming off of it? I will consult my PCP to wing off of it.
I was taking Gabapentin I started having memory loss simple things I stopped taking it I don't recall any side effects I cannot recall at all but my memories back
I'm taking Gabapentin now, just prescribed last week. I've noticed several new symptoms but feel it's worth having them, because they are mild, but noticeable, to get rid of the lingering pain/itch from Shingles.
I experienced memory loss too and then felt like a zombie i couldnt communicate back after being on it for 4 months. I was on 1200mg
I have a bad case of 2:11 peripheral neuropathy as well as other back issues. My doctor wants to prescribe a neuropathy med. Do you have a video on other meds like Duloxatine plus any others. I would appreciate it so so much
Thank you.
I’ve never heard of anyone abusing this recreationally and getting addicted. Most people take it just how their doctor prescribed.
Here they call them gabbies 3$ for a 600 MG on main street in winnipeg
For me, it's a god sent! I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder when I was 12, and was put on gabapentin to control my anxiety. Before, my chest felt like something had a vice grip on it and I couldn't' leave my house because my anxiety was that bad! Now, as a 27 year old women, my life has improved dramatically because of this drug! I've been on lower doses before, but there is a drastic difference and my doctor and I decided to keep the original dosage! My aunt takes gabapentin and she says it works very well for her too! I understand that not every drug is going to be a right fit for everyone, but for me it was a literal life changer!
i take 900mg a day and it helps a little with my terrible nerve pain. opioids work wonderfully. 2.5mg of vicodin at night and i was good for 24 hours. that is no longer an option. so many people abuse prescription pain meds that the people who need them cant get them anymore. the gabapentin keeps the pain under the wanting to die threshold which is better than nothing.
I had a cervical dichotomy infusion on june 2020, I have been on gabapentin 8mg for a year. I don’t take narcotics. I also have tried to get off of this and it’s been difficult. I’m tiered of taking this med, and the doctor has not even tried to take it off. I’m very unhappy all the time. Pain dose not go away and I also take Tylenol extra strength. I’m extremely tired
Get a new doctor and listen to your body, I also had a surgery in 2020 that huge pain but this med for me doesn't work and is making me a zombie. Good health going forward.
Know what’s crazy? I’ve been on Gabapentin 3,600mg daily for over 10 years and the VA constantly let’s me prescription lapse to where I run out for up to a week, and you can’t get it refilled elsewhere etc. so I’m stuck dealing with the body aches, diarrhea and everything else that comes with stopping the medication suddenly.
Wow! That's pretty scary and sad!😢
I have a friend that takes one. This is my 2nd time. It is helping me.
I'm on 1800 MG of gabapentin a day for nerve pain. I try to function on 1200. My body has changed so much, from weight to attn span. I'm hoping to get off it!
I gained a lot of weight.
Maybe the dose can be lowered
Same, I gained a ton!
I stopped taking it mid 2019. It was rough but, worth it!
Life saver. Use it to not drink. As former severe alcoholic. This can help many.
I was taking Gabapentin for about a month before being put on a pain patch. I wasn’t told to stop the Gabapentin. About a week into my pain patch I felt high, dizzy, and like I was in a different realm (mentally). These feeling only got worse. I asked the pharmacist about my pain patch and these feelings and he told me my pain patch dose was too high. Later that day I talked to the pharmacist I threw up in a friend’s car and was extremely tired and dizzy. Later that evening I looked up Gabapentin and the pain patch I had and found out the Gabapentin causes serious reactions with the patch. I told the pharmacist this the next time I saw him and he told me that Gabapentin is safe with all pain patches. Now I know why I was feeling the way I was. I stopped the Gabapentin without tapering because I feared things would get worse with my pain patch medicine. Why doctors and pharmacist don’t warn patients about this is beyond me.
Was the pain patch medication called fentynal? A drug many times more potent than morphine and is a opiate, in the same family of drugs as heroin, morphine, oxycodone. It is usually only prescribed for end of life terminally ill cancer patients or those with very extreme pain. Your issue is that fentynal patch, very addictive opiate, you should certainly try to get off of it asap, wean off it with doctors help. Is it a patch that you wear for 3 days called fentynal transdermal? If so, try to get off it, its the most potent opiate drug second only to the street drug heroin.
You need a new pharmacist. Run to another one ASAP.
This medication for anxiety has saved my life.
I was on gabapentin for chronic pain and diabetic neuropathy. Since West Virginia has regulated away opioids from primary care, I was on it because of my adverse reactions to antidepressants used in nerve pain. It took a while to adjust to the side effects, but the one withdrawal I hate is the skin crawling. I'll be sitting somewhere, minding my own business, and suddenly it will feel like I'm sitting on an anthill. It never really helped me anyway and I told my doctor, but regulations and laws prevented him from prescribing what he felt would help.
I got off of gabapentin with no effects at all. The people who have bad withdrawal are on other meds with the gabapentin
Almost anything you put in your body for a period of time you will develop a dependancy which is not the same as addiction. You stop coffee you get headach and you stop exercise you get anxiety. People need to learn everything can cause you harm if you take more then people can handle. Also if this man was not taking it for nerve pain then he should have not taken it because it does not help with bone or muscle pain.
How true!!!
Where can I find this episode in full?
some dude is in his bedroom right now slammin some of this stuff cracking up at the video.
This is also an Epilepsy medication. It doubles for other things as well. It isn't like taking an aspirin. This builds in your system and you need to taper off. Do people not listen or read the info that comes with their prescription?
I’ve been on 900mg for 5 years. They told me it’s non addictive etc. I’ve gotten off other drugs and this is by far the worst one I’ve had.
Wow they’re talking about tapering, no cold turkey. I love how they’re really talking about the withdrawal, and saw they adverse side effects of cipro
I think doctors when they prescribe this drug at whatever dosage should closely monitor how it affects their patient. I had 12 surgeries on my left leg; leaving me with weird nerve pain. My doctor prescribed gabapentin 300mg a day. I have to tell you its been a God send for me. I am aware that this is a powerful drug and respect this. I also know its may not be the best drug for nerve pain for everyone. For me personally; I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I didn't have gabapentin to calm those nerves in my leg. I guess what Im saying is that its not a one size fits all and doctor awareness and observation can help in making sure that patients are on the right track.
Gabapentin is amaxing, so is pregabalin- the stronger controlled cousin of gabapentin. But it helps so much, just because a few people abuse it doesn’t mean it should be harder for everyone else to get the medication you need
Gabapentin is/was a life saver for me. I suffered for 4-5 years with non diabetic neuropathy. At one point I'd have to sit down after walking across the floor a few feet! I dreaded going anywhere except for eating out or going to movie, but only if little walking was required. Travel, vacations, and sporting events were a nightmare. All of these were once my hobbies. I couldn't sleep because of the burning and shooting pain. My life is wonderful now thanks to my neurologists and pain management physicians. They did all sorts of tests, and prescribed this drug. I would be in trouble without gabapentin.

I guess we shall find out today as Im quitting cold turkey.
Why not stop gradually? How are you doing?
Spine surgery. Gabapentin was a miracle for me. Took nothing after my surgery.
It took me 5 yrs to get off. My hands still shake. Gabapentin had no good effects.
I’m currently on an opioid and Lyrica for chronic back pain. I don’t like the word “high”, but I definitely felt some kind of euphoria with Lyrica, while I didn’t really feel anything with an opioid. Maybe the first night, but that’s what is it. Lyrica has very similar sedating effects to Xanax.
When I start on a stronger opioid dose. I may feel a little nauseous, dizzy, etc. It’s almost like something that makes me afraid of increasing my dose, so I only ask to increase it, if it’s necessary.
Lyrica doesn’t have those effects on me, it actually stimulates my appetite, and I gained 2kg.
My doctor started me on 75mg a day for a week, and then put me on 150mg a day. I decided against increasing my dosage anymore, as I was trying to lose weight, to help my back. The medication also wasn’t helping with back pain. After staying on one dose, the weight gain stopped (I lost what I gained), as my appetite went back to normal. The sedating effects also vanished. But I decided to give it a try for a few months, as apparently it can take awhile to work. I wished I didn’t.
I take one Lyrica in the morning and evening, and one Targin (abuse deterrent CR oxycodone) morning and evening too. If I miss a dose of Targin. I may have increased pain, but that’s it. If I miss a dose of Lyrica, these are my symptoms:
- anxiousness
- vertigo
- headache
- feelings of electricity buzzing around my brain
These are scary symptoms from simply missing a dose.
I understand that doctors desperately want to find an alternative to opioids, but Lyrica or Gabapentin aren’t the answer. They’re believed to be effective against neuropathic pain. But they’re apparently useless on back pain. I also don’t like how they’re prescribed off-label for so many things. I have suffered memory problems after being on Lyrica for a year. I sometimes forget words, and it’s something I’d like to come off of. But doctors still seem so hellbent on prescribing it. My GP (primary doctor for Americans) is currently away, so I saw a fill-in doctor. The first thing he said, was “have you tried Lyrica”. I said yes. I even told him I currently take it.
I am worried that these medications will be the next big problem, as some patients are already abusing them.
Jon, as you probably know, Lyrica is nothing more than a more powerful, repackaged and re-branded Gabapentin. It carries with it all of the same health risks and side effects as Gabapentin. Terrible stuff!! I hope you are one day able to get off of it!
I am 89yrs old Nursing Sister who had Caudel Epidural and Bilateral L5 S1facet injection and at the moment I'm on Gaberpentine 150mgms BD and feeling very much better I had the procedure earlier December 2021 I'm interested to know more about Gaberpentine thanks very much
I've been taking gabapentin for my post cervical neck surgery (triple discectomy) and it's benefits have been better than the Robaxin & oxycontin my dr. had prescribed to me. I have had zero withdrawals from it. It all depends on the person imo. I do not have an addictive personality, so perhaps my experience may be different than others. But as far as effectiveness, it has worked great for me to relieve the nerve pain post-op. Better than the other medication prescribed. I use it in conjunction with Tylenol.
My doctor prescribed this to taper off Xanax, but quit early because of side effects.
Was given gabapentin to withdrawal from klonipin 2 years ago. I can’t get lower then 300 mg. I can’t handle another terrible withdrawal. Thank you medical community for doing this to me as well as many others. The medical community and FDA have ruins many lives

Can't think anymore memory loss feels like the beginning of dementia from this medicin
I take Gabapentin for diabetic nerve pain and it helps but not 100% and I notice it messes with my memory and I'm forgetful alot.
Exactly. And lose muscle function
My mom has been on this for 6 years and it is "the long goodbye". It has ruined her life and we all as a family don't know what to do with her or how to help her. She just got into a bad car accident from being really bizarre leaving the house at night and driving very sleepy. Lots of distrust and paranoia. She says she's going to stop taking them pills but I cannot be certain. This is the worst thing that has happened to our family. She has burned every bridge and continues to burn them daily. I'm trying to stay strong and be there for her. But there comes a point where I may throw my hands up and back off and let the mental hospital take over. This is sad and I hate the doctors who prescribed this satanic garbage to her. Everything from personality changes to altered mental status lethargy confusion I could go on and on. But my poor mother this drug has ruined my very healthy mother and she is now addicted and lost her mind. 💔
I’m so sorry you’re going through this with your mom. Absolutely heartbreaking. My mom was prescribed Gaba about seven months ago and the changes in her are horrific. It’s like she has dementia. She can’t remember where she is, what day it is, etc. She gets confused and talks about dead relatives as if they are alive. She repeats herself constantly. She can’t carry a full conversation without using the wrong words and doesn’t even know her left from her right. I’m convinced Gaba is playing a part in her memory and cognition.
@@angiewoodward7642 my heart goes out to all who have lost their loved ones to this despicable drug. Fuck gabapentin and it's creators. I hope they get theirs.
Gaba does play a part in cognition. Take her back to the doctor so they can slowly wean her off!!! They can place her on another medication without those horrible side effects! This happened to me and when I realized what was happening, I went to my neurologist to decrease the dosage! I now am taking 300 mg once a day from 900 mgs. Never again!!! I couldn't even count change! 😢
Is there a way you can go to see her doctor with her? If she is experiencing that many side effects, I'm sure the doctor can start weaning her off slowly! Your mom should not do this on her own! Best of luck!

I've been on it for a couple years now. It was amazing at first. It helped me with school and work but now it's taken an ironic twist where I think it might be hurting my energy and focus. I want to reduce my dosage but I also want to be able to take it again in the future. Not only is withdrawal terrible but I feel like my symptoms are returning with such tolerance. It was just so incredible and clean burning at first but I'm at a nasty point where I feel like I take it just because my body is addicted rather than it positively affecting my medical issues.
