    Far our guys we literally had the exact thought the other day. I don't think you are offensively promoting a location, someone still has to google and research and find there way out there and know the right seasons to be there. Its not like you are giving away all the info if that makes sense but your right especially as some small coastal towns want to stay small and quite. Then enters the gate keepers and thats a different kettle of fish and the issue goes around and around. What we have been doing is sharing the location but not specifically sharing the wave location as you guys know, surfing has the biggest gate keepers and lets be real no one like surfing with 100 people in the lineup so they have a point. i think you guys are very sensible in what you share, its inspiring others and there's so many positive takeaways too! you're doing a great job and sometimes there's no solution!

    • @KendallandGlenn
      @KendallandGlenn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for the comment guys! I think a lot of people don't realise we actually only disclose only a portion of the places we actually go for that very reason. haha. It's definitely a fine line that's for sure (and even finer with surf spots) hahaha. It's definitely a tricky one!

      Thanks so much Willow, it certainly is a magic spot. And sadly with the growing number of travellers on the road (particularly during the pandemic) it does seem to be a harsh reality we have to deal with.

    I wouldn't say it's this busy because of social media, Esperance has always been a really popular weekend getaway for people in WA and a lot of us have been trapped within our own state for two years now. I understand the concern about people not littering, there are often local community pages who do beach cleanups if you're ever interested in joining them. I don't think gatekeeping places is the answer, these beaches have always been popular - just maybe more-so because there's a whole state that can only venture within their own jurisdiction and it's well known that Esperance has some of the best beaches in Australia.

    • @KendallandGlenn
      @KendallandGlenn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the input Molly. Totally agree. We often miss official clean ups but usually pick up all that we find along beaches we go onto to hopefully do our bit. Thanks for the support :)

  • @PatrickHedgesArtist
    @PatrickHedgesArtist 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great vlog guys. Re the litter, we've put three boxes of surgical gloves in our van and wherever we stop, we make a point of removing not only our trash but other people's too. It literally only takes a few minutes to make a difference. Good for you for highlighting the problem. Lots of litterers (is that a word) probably don't even think of the harm it can do to domestic animals, and if they're littering, we know the aren't thinking of wildlife which is a huge shame.

  • @HappyAdventurer
    @HappyAdventurer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I've asked myself this question many times and I've come to conclusion that this planet is meant to be shared and enjoyed by all and I've learnt that it's wrong to assume that sharing a place will likely lead to it being over populated or ruined. It's better to think the best in others and to share knowledge. I certaintly know that I wouldn't have enjoyed being in nature as much if I never found out about amazing campsites or other experiences which I found out about from others willing to share. There will be those people who don't treat places with respect where ever they go. So don't let the people who treat places with respect not know about a location because of those other people.

    • @KendallandGlenn
      @KendallandGlenn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your input Tony. Super insightful and we definitely agree. I think it's still important to keep some super unknown places under wraps (at least on youtube and instagram etc.) but sharing some beauty and encouraging seeing this country is also very important. Here's hoping more people treat these beautiful places with respect than not.

    There are around 10,000 beaches in Australia (visit 1 per day = 27 yrs) and you picked the one packed with yobbos.

  • @Lime-Spider1959

    Yes it is . I started surfing in the early 70's so you may guess my attitude toward crowds. It's a fine line to walk on a finite resource. Most I think have good intentions and my heroes were the Leyland Bros and Malcolm Douglass who inspired me to do the FNQ trip in the mid 80's and later on after kids we spent 3yrs travelling Australia in a caravan and 2yrs working on the Ningaloo coast. There was very little in the way of social media early facebook to keep in touch with the family and friends.This was before TIAV started the whole trend of wannabes desperately competing to expose every little treasure Australia has to offer for a chance at internet stardom. Glad we got to do a few laps before hoards of drone flying , Akubra wearing queens of self promotion started popping up all over the landscape. Not much originality from most. Having said that I love your vids and others so I guess I'm part of the problem :)

    • @KendallandGlenn
      @KendallandGlenn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment michael. It certainly is a fine line and how lucky you got to experience before it has been overpopulated and commercialised. Our general rule of thumb has only been to mention names of places that are already well known so hopefully we've still managed to keep a couple of secret little pockets under the radar. hahaha. Thanks for the support :)

    Love this 💜 such great shots. Weekend camping worriers are everywhere. They drink to much they talk too loud & they leave rubbish everywhere . When they have fires they throw everything into them, glass, cans & plastic. They’re grubs. Sadly they spoil every camping weekend especially the long weekends.
    As for sharing your spots with us your viewers … it wasn’t the reason the spot your in now was packed on a long weekend… that happens everywhere all over the world. It’s summer we head to the beaches or the national parks as often as we can. Just more in peak times. Keep sharing I say as a lot of us will never get to see these spots but it’s great to look them up later & learn more about them. That’s just my opinion though 🤷🏻‍♀️ take care kids 💜💜💜 Storm ⛈

    Hi guys - been following your vlogs for over a year and love them. So envious of you and your lifestyle. I live in Perth and do landscape and wildlife photography, with a little bit of 4WD (to enable my photography) but joined a 4WD Club to learn properly. One thing from my early days that stuck with me was the quote “leave nothing behind but footprints”, which I think is a great quote. What really annoys me as a photographer is finding a superb location in a dune area, framing up an image only to find a beer bottle or can lying in the area I want to photograph and I can’t take the picture. We have a pristine environment so why spoil it. So much I could say about so many idiots 😡🤬. Keep the vlogs coming guys 👍👏

    Hi Guys,
    The problem is about attitude, not numbers. Social media is not responsible for poor behaviour.
    The lack of respect for nature has been going on for years…(Look at the state of our planet)
    Bringing greater awareness by exposure is the only hope of improving things, so the best thing you can do is include this aspect in your vids.
    One cannot complain about social media, and enjoy watching your vids as well…That’s hypocritical.
    Don’t be discouraged, use your position to improve things, and keep the vids coming.
    Safe travels 🙏

    I Think adding the location particularly surf spots does kill the spot and then it gets over crowded like you see in this vid and other spots become popular/busy in the last 10 years since insta, I don't think covid Has helped this because more people are exploring our back yard. I wouldn't say you guys are making it over crowed but I guess every post/vid on social media does contribute by everyone in general, i think leave it up to people to find the place them selves, even adding the station name like the recent places you have travel up north could be left out. I do enjoy watching you guys and wish I could travel full time like you are and love seeing spots you post that I have been too, but half the fun is finding the cool spot yourself so let people do their own research, It is a catch 22 I guess, I remember using things like the surf spot books you could buy from surf stores and Google maps to find spots which I guess is a similar thing but if you give out directions and details from wikkicamps like some other big Ozzie youtubers that tow caravans then I think its 100% going to make the spot crowed and hard to book.
    But love your bus and vids 🤙🏽

  • @terryjackson4538
    @terryjackson4538 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Don't feel bad about what you do. You're not the reason crowds are at every spot.
    45 years ago when I first started travelling with my folks, every good spot got busy on public holidays and school holidays. In the eighties there were a small number of 4wders so isolated spots were less crowded, now there are thousands of 4wders, grey haired nomads, travellers like yourselves and the average family just wanting a day or weekend away. Most are good and respectful.
    The loud, drunk yobs have been around forever, way before me, my dad and and probably his dads great granddad. My partner and I are lucky, we work for ourselves and tend to take breaks when others are at work, we still find places busy but are lucky to avoid Long Weekend Crowds.
    Don't feel bad about what you're doing because comments and advice like you've given in this video make a difference. Eventually some the yobs will listen, sadly the worst of them are the ones who would never see your great videos.
    I once picked up 20 plus broken bottles on a beach where kids were playing, it was the parents of the kids who'd smashed them the night before. Sadly you can't cure stupid.

  • @lisagolding8740

    Yes it’s ruining our special and pristine places. Beaches, camp areas, wetlands, woodlands, bush land etc. IMO people (influencers, and social media apps) Shouldn’t be disclosing the locations. Especially publications like Perth Is OK. so frustrating. Rubbish, food scraps, toilet paper, burnouts, broken glass etc. it’s gross. If people want to visit these places, they should go out and explore for them selves. Not spoon fed the locations.

    • @KendallandGlenn
      @KendallandGlenn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally agree Sara! Our general rule of thumb has been to only disclose information that is already readily available and well known to the public, and any others, to not disclose specific information. The beauty is in the exploration and discovery, and not ruining it for future people that actually get out and explore these beautiful areas :)

      Thanks so much Lee :) this is very true. Hopefully it all settles down soon in the coming year or two and maybe people will start taking a little more responsibility for their camping etc. Thanks so much for your support! Glad we can brighten your days a little bit :)

    You know it is along with this whole vanlife craze. Believe it or not but once upon a time people used to travel (in vans) or tow campers/caravans etc and spend their summer or winters days in beautiful locations without the fuss of social media and checking in for their daily Insta post. This generation have basically ruined it for everyone that came before them all in a matter of a few years. I hope one day things return to normal and these hippies in vans can travel to Europe or Bali or wherever and leave these poor locations all around Australia alone because alot of these places can't handle crowds and are not set up for the masses. Why anyone would Instagram and TH-cam these spots to hundreds, if not thousands of gullible sheeple. Visit these spots, but keep a lid on locations and don't name names - pretty simple really. Because the next time you visit you will probably not enjoy it as much and you will only have yourselves to blame.

      Thanks for your input! Our general rule of thumb in all our travels is to only disclose locations of places that are already so well known. You'll notice we don't actually name specific places that aren't known for that exact reason. And yes while some may do things for the sake of posting, please understand we do not. Originally this channel started as a way to document our travels for our future selves and families, and perhaps encourage some people to get out and about and see this beautiful country. Totally see your points but tarring everyone with the same brush doesn't really achieve much. Thanks for supporting us and giving your opinion :)

    It’s not th travelers it’s the townies that stuff it up for the travelers

      We definitely have seen a lot of locals ruin places but still insist on blaming "van lifers" etc. Quite a tricky battle that's for sure!

    Maybe you can share places and people can be respectful of the place when they visit. Leave no trace that you have been there.

    Keep locations secret and share with people that you know will respect the place. Just tag Australia and let people do their own exploring.

    It is so hard to know what to share, vs what not to. Fishermen generally NEVER share their location for exactly the reasons you put out. On the other hand if all of your video was generic parking lot and sand without any geographical information they would be boring. Except with Leo. You could just film Leo and I'd probably just watch for that.
    On the other side of the coin, the cat is already out of the bag. Google maps et.al. have removed almost all hidden places that you can still get to via a car.

    Film the dumb ones, past it on parks and wildlife. Or send it too the council via email or phone call. It's time these stupid people learn it just for them. They leave the car park when the ranger comes but it does not save them with a court order. I seen it a sheepyard flats. The ranger made them pick ever bit up and then he said to us the court order coming. Get rego numbers.

    KEEP THE LOCATIONS SECRET !!
    The people that CBF exploring for themselves will be the ones that don’t respect places. If people desperately want to know where a place is they can DM or reach out another way.
    Social media IS spoiling travel

    Education. A saying told to me. They do not feed Christians to the loins any more. So education tells this is not right. Telling the place. People numbers are growing. So people find. So tell a story of living in rubbish

    The social media thing has already happened. The damage is already done and nothing will stop it from getting worse. You should not feel the burden personally for this, there are other channels and social media posts before you, who already broke the sacred vowel, and revealed locations. You might as well do it also, because there really are no secrets left in 2022 anyway.
    At the end of the day, it comes down to you and your own conscience, and whether or not you feel comfortable receiving gratifications for your contribution to this problem.
