I know a lot of people are getting thrown-off on the heavy emphasis on how the lips were drawn, but it may actually serves as a visual aid since there will be tons of lip reading for Yuki's sake. Also, having both this and The Dangers in My Heart on the same day is enough to send me into a diabetic coma (I've got Type 2 Diabetes, btw)
Two comments. I think the slow pacing at this point is to highlight how stuck Yuki is before meeting Itsoumi. It seems that all the interactions with Itsoumi are so quick and I expect the pacing to pick up with more of those interactions. I kinda love the full lips in the show, because it highlights the shape of the mouth during the lip reading scenes. I noticed the same thing with the long fingers that allow so much expression in the signing. Itsoumi’s gentleness is show in his mouth and finger movements. In contrast, the harsh expressions and sharp finger movements of Oushi show his overbearing nature. I also like how Oushi gets nervous and his signing gets shaky and hesitant.
I stumbled into this one and I fell in love in the OP, and the rest of the two episodes were just like that. Hope the feels continue. Yuki is just beyond sweet and goofy. Itsuomi is multi-lingual and perhaps the initial attraction is that he wants to learn sign language. But then staying in contact with her from Laos might indicate more. Ōshi literally believes that Yuki is disabled. His lecturing Rin because she came up from behind, when Yuki was in no way troubled means this guy is controlling. While Yuki has a problem, she is not disabled and she does not need protection, just normal consideration from others like Rin. This story is just so well done. I hope Itsuomi turns out to be a genuine good guy!
As somebody who has a lot of experience with deaf people and ASL, you can read those sublties in sign. It's just shown differently. Anger for instance could have big gesutred signs and sadness could not, they're shown through the language, just through facial expressions and body language as well as the signs themselves. I'm so happy they made this an anime! I've been reading the manag and the author does so much research to do it well. They actually have more background on Itsuomi in the first few manga so it should be next or the episodes following. Also, I'm very happy because in the manga, Oshi is actually very chill later on. He does a very good job showing that he just really cares for her. Not in a toxic way thankfully.
This is slow paced? There was an almost confession in the first episode, and she realized it was love in the 2nd. Most romance shows need at least a full season for that, if it ever comes at all.
I think the hearing aides she wears are there for what you note: they show folks she can't hear. It's kind of similar to how many blind people wear sunglasses, even if they're totally blind. Besides the usual stuff of protecting in case of injury, it's something culturally kind of just assoicated with blindness, and so folks operate accordingly. My guess is that somehting similar is the intent of the hearing aides even if htey do nothing.
I absolutely adore this series so far. I knew nothing about it going in, and it has been such a pleasant surprise. I do hope that this series will be more of a comforting love story, instead of a story that leans on drama. But…. I will have to wait and see how it turns out. So far, after the first two episodes, I really like it :)
I read the manga because of the similarity with A Silent voice and that it was a romance story. I think I read more than a season 1 will be able to adapt, but anyways, my point is that if I have known that this will be adapted, I truly recommend anime only's to stick with this show. This adaptation is a gem.
i am not deaf and dont know sign language but watched almost all of "Switched at Birth" and you can tell from their signing when they are happy or angry though I am by far from an expert. Loving this anime so far.
On the research part of your video just now, I'm doing that with PTSD on my comic. I have PTSD but it's different for everyone, so I'm always looking into it. I just like the fact you looked into this. Always being the boss man. \0/
I think that it is safe to say that your opinion is in the minority. So far, his characterization has him coming across as a total d-bag. I'm anime-only, so this is just speculation, but I'm thinking that he has a family member who is deaf and had to learn to sign to communicate with them. This made him stand out in homogenized Japan, and he resents them for it. We will just have to see if he reaches an epiphany.
Hm, I may be projecting. I used to be in love with a girl but was way too shy to act on it, I did a lot for her but never let my emotions show. She ended up dating one of my friends, I never showed or told how hard it hurt me. Sadly, my friend didn't treat her that good. She changed a lot from it and became a very bitter person. So when I see Ôshi being stressed about that Ikemen getting in her life, I relate way too much.
Loving the first two episodes. The message is really positive. Yuki and Rin are well drawn and cute. It would also seem the artist that drew "A Girl and his Guard Dog" has improved in drawing guys.....guys still look kind off but not as bad.
like yuki i identify with her but im not deaf but when she said that people told her that her voice sounds weird i got it because i have a speech impairment and when i open my mouth its a problem and they say oh why you dont go to with your own people that have the same problem as me like they want to put me into a box and leave "the normal people alone" so i get why yuki questions isuomi why me and where she is sees "normal girls" all around him i get her world because im disabled also and i think every girl has this problem or its just me well idk thats my experience ...
This is a good romance so far- I wonder if the white haired guy is romantically interested in the main character yet. Maybe he’s just interested in learning another language, seeing as how he’s already learned several others.
For me i feel like the 20 mins ep flew In 2 to e minutes. Instead of dangers which is too much fanservice & characters feel too off. Especially the girl . She is just a male fetish which i hate
if you said dangers is male fetish, this one is 100℅ female fetish, tall hot guy with feminine lips, aggressive and has creepy behavior. Imagine getting a head pat from stranger in your first meeting and get a message"let me into your world "🤢. If an ugly guy doing this it was 100℅ sexual harassment but if the guy is hot it's cute and romantic bl bla, what a joke. Atleast Dangers has better interaction and the character feels more real than this joke
"Why is he interested in Yuki?" Cause she's precious

They also immediately confessed and became a couple at chapter 10! 😭🫶🏻
Currently if I’m not mistaken currently eps 3 adapted chapter 3 and 4

Yuki is hella cute. And a new language to learn. He is hooked now.

I needed a new adult romance anime after The Ice Guy and the Cool Female Colleague ended and waited for the manga volumes didn't help 😊
I love this show. It's so adorable!
I like the show so far. I want to see her get out and explorer more.

Favorite anime of the season
I absolutely love this anime!
If you want a great portrayal of a deaf character, then I recommend reading Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson.
oh my god I literally forgot that character existed
I've gotta reread that book
I just feel bad for Ôshi, dude may be overbearing but he clearly loves her and must be hurting.

@@XSaebaYRyoZ It's not the thing that Oshi is shy, it's the thing that he is not being nice to her most of the time.
Great review and yes, the show is very good.
the lips reminds me "beautiful squidward" meme :D
