@SweetTea742: No far from it. Machel did it before Ola. But seriously the original credit will have to go to Lord Shorty and Ed Watson all the way back in 1975. The fusion of Afrobeat with Soca is nothing new and started very early in soca's life soon after its inception in the early 1970's. Lord Shorty produced a very popular soca version of "Hello Africa" for Ella Andall back in 1975, take a listen: th-cam.com/video/u2L0zQo_V-g/w-d-xo.html Also in 1975 Ed Watson who was Shorty's regular arranger back then produced this soca version of the Afrobeat hit by Fela Kuti from Nigeria for his 1975 album: th-cam.com/video/6SU_BjxYW90/w-d-xo.html
Ooooh! I thought so SocaPhD! Thank You! But, I should have clarified, do you think Ola was the one who possibly reintroduced it heavily into Soca in the 2010's? I remember Soca going down the EDM route for some time and then Olatunji released "Ola" with the Kan Kan Riddim which to me, sounded different to the soca genre of that time.
Just heard this song while standing in line at chipotle and caught myself dancing the whole time…. Now I’m listening to it on my way home.. thanks Siri

Would you agree that Ola was the first to incorporate the Afrobeats to Soca?
