Is it just me? Or is Kezz getting a lot taller? Because with that being said... Kezz is making it look like Julia is shrinking. At least on video. Just kidding Julia. But seriously folks... It was great to see the Birkenshaw's hook up with the Longnecker's. It's always been my opinion that these two families have a knack for making certain that the production value in their video's is always a cut above the rest. At least with video it's just as important to look good than it is to feel good. While at the same time it's always nice, and even more important, to see a husband and a wife (who obviously love each other very much) raise a large number of intelligent, talented, and well adjusted, children who are obviously going to make a very positive contribution to the future world to come. Take care. sincerely, Dean O. :-I
A great family of hard workers. Beautiful family. Johnathan and Ashley, I'm sure you all appreciated their visit. Thanks for sharing with us. Now I'm going over to subscribe for them.
I clicked so fast when I saw that exciting Gridlessness name in your title! Favorite clickbait title ever. Love that channel, and yours so much! Never thought 2 of my favs, with such different climates involved, would ever meet up and work together! So cool. I hope to see them use what they learned here from Tiny Shiny Home back in Gridlessness Canada. I am sure you all had a great visit and made some good friends. Loved the episode.
I subscribed to them! 😊 I’m always looking for new channels to watch from the beginning and binge watch, so I hope they don’t get annoyed by my comments on old posts! 😅 Love you guys and enjoy this nice AZ weather while it’s nice, because our summer is coming! 😅🔥🌵
I got addicted to this channel and a few others during the Pandemic..... I just love how people are using MATH to be creative! Especially Geometry and Algebra! I just watched a gardening video where they also used the Compass to make measurements using a long stick with a nail and a string! fun stuff! This is going to be quite the fascinating journey!
How wonderful Gridlessness stopped by your homestead on their journey! Brought to mind their earth root cellar construction… you may have given them some ideas for future projects in the great white north.
Well, how cool was this episode?! I just discovered Gridlessness ( and subscribed!) a few days ago, and here they are! Thnx Tiny Shiny folks.....you guys are so fun bringing the TH-cam Community together in a GOOD way.
Really enjoy watching you training others on your approach to this. Also, to hear what the conditions are like in the areas of your visitors will be trying this is nice to hear.
I'm glad to hear you got the walls staked off from the center compass for the framed walls. Great, your room is going to be a little bigger than the kid's rooms. Bravo! Too bad you have to trench another earthbag wall again Jonathan. I'm glad it just rained to make it easier. Cool, Jeff and Rose with a TH-cam channel of Gridlessness? Nice that you're teaching them how to superadobe. No, 68 steps plus 5 feet! He has to write it down! It sounds like they know how to stuff sausages. It's 2.2lbs to a kilogram. Yay, fourth course there! Congratulations on your build with Tiny Shiny Home Gridlessness! Thanks for this video Longnecker family!
just as a matter of interest, why do you think it so great that the parents' room is bigger than the kids' rooms? I'd been wondering about this anyhow…
@@nilcarborundum7001 I guess it's a bias I have since when I grew up I always had a smaller room than my parent's room. I figured I was just growing up and leaving anyway so I think of the kid's room as being smaller than the parent's room. If the kids decide to stay they could build their own separate rooms or buildings like with "MyLittleHomestead" kids did. The parents are there to stay! I think they "rate" a big room.
@@StoneKathryn Sure, that makes sense! I guess my parents reckoned we kids needed to do more different things in our rooms, so they were bigger. But then, we didn't have a whole outdoors to play in.
Hi Jon and Ash, good to see some work on the home, yahoo. I haven’t seen the gridlessness Chanel so now it’s something to check out. Just thinking about gridlessness and what they may need to build is an earth ship style using hyperadobe but with thick external walls.
bonjour la famille. i must admit, that i've watched a lot 'earth-bagging.' and yet, today's iteration was like a refresher course of how to do it right. i truly enjoyed watching the 'canadiennes' working with their parents and the homestead off grid conversation between the families. the exchange of knowledge and commitment is awesome. In 1880, a gentleman from Quebec, composed the melody for the Canadian national athem and Adolphe-Basile Routhier wrote ihe lyrics in French. Canada and the United States have much in common. and now and forever more, Canada and Cochise County have a link based on hard work and mutual cooperation. 'Ô Canada, our home and native land.. a thing in common indeed. using 'native land to build our respective homes.'
Another good day when you wake up to a new episode of Tiny shiny home! Glad to see that you are back working on the house again! Will take you a while to get back into the groove again! Best wishes!

Toured over here from the @Gridlessness family 😁 Ya couldnt get 2 better channels together for a feed like this .🤷♂️ youtube should pay both you families for these amazing episodes 😊 followed 💪😏 cant wait for more .. Cant beat this style of building..too awesome
Jeff is a great hunter, mostly Jeff's wife and daughters seem to make most of the food, mostly in wood burning stoves, but it always looks so good. I've seen them on their channel, they fish in ocean, and hunt elk, deer and bear as well in the forests, plant and grow gardens, and they consume all that they catch and grow! Amazing work they do.
This format is interesting! 👍 When you show and explain something to a person who is actually there, it becomes more understandable. 👉I also have a suggestion for filling the earthbags. Put the wheelbarrow on an elevation (like a ramp) as high. This way you don´t have bend down each time to heave up each shovel of earth mix to the height of the earthbag- opening. I know it is such a little movement , but it is a movement you will have to perform a million times on this project. It will ruin your backs. 🚑 If you would build a platform that moved alongside the trolley system, put twoo wheels on one side, and handles on the other side. This way you can easily move it along when the earth bag trolley moves. It would look like half of the little wooden trench bridge cut off, but with wheelies and handles. Just a suggestion, of course, no critique.
Both of your channels have inspired my family to take the leap last year - now we are starting to get the hang of it and are loving every moment - We live in Northern AZ on our little homestead and have a youtube channel called @gridlessandgrounded - keep inspiring people like me with your content - our quality of life has greatly improved and I will always have much love for you all in my heart!

Hey, we all dont live in Igloos in Canada. I live in Alberta and our summers are +30 deg C and Winters -30deg C. Winter is 4 to 5 months. Love gridlessness by the way and I do follow them
@gridlessness could totally do a geothermal heat pump along with the earthbags/hyperadobe. Use the ground for all the resources that dont take away from the earth while you use them.
When you talked about measuring the feet on the bedroom walls.. I thought of before when Ashely's foot wasn't actually a foot AND I remembered being in a courtroom hall for jury duty during Covid a sign saying "Stay 6 pies Apart" !! 😮 in Taos NM.. Evidently Spanish or Mexicans measure by a 12" pie pan.. Not feet !!! 😅😂
Very cool! You guys really have it down to a science. Thank you for making a really fun instructional video, I learned a lot. Here in our part of Canada we built our homestead with log, and wood which we have an abundance of up here. Then we heat and cook with wood most of the year.

Thank you :) Right now we're just trying to get our property built out and don't really have time for anything else. Maybe one day we'll be able to build for others.
A very good and pretty thorough explanation of how you do your bagging. Too bad that you didn't have maybe another team as well to share the experience and cut back on all the explaining some other time.
Where in Canada are your friends from? Must be pretty far north if they have to heat 10 months of the year. I'm in Nova Scotia and we use heat about seven months, max. And we have beautiful warm weather from May to October.
Hey, love your video's. why don't you use a Vibratory plate to flatten you Adobe bags? When they are filled of course. I am from Belgium and have built our brick house myself. And no I am not a builder, I was a Fireman paramedic. Greetings from Belgium. Willy.

Is the milled Canadian timber treated for any kind of insects? Kiln dried maybe? Or maybe you don’t have those kind of wood pests in Canada? Glad no termites in Canada.
They can, but then you won't ever be able to access them again. We'll be building framed walls (those stakes we put in at the beginning of the video) so we can go up in the ceiling and drop down wires where we need them for maintainability.

Yes it's a 5' hallway. Wider than most hallways in a normal house.
