Wow man, knocked it out of the park. I’m 20 and I’d say this was spot on. At the age of 19 I was a lukewarm Catholic at best but once I got some of the difficult questions answered I did a 180, or rather God caused the 180 inside of me, and I’ve never been the same. It’s been a year and some change of me denying myself, failing, going to confession, denying myself and so on until I’m finally able to get rid of whatever sin was plaguing me. I actually pray in my own home now and read the Bible. All because some difficult questions were answered.
    Keep up the good work!

Same for me! A year ago I was blaspheming Our Lady and now I'm praying 15 decade rosaries almost every single day. I love Our Lady and am so grateful she's forgiving and doesn't hold a grudge... I could never relate to those people who exercise every day and feel bad if they miss a day, but i missed my rosary today and i feel so uncomfortable about it!

I'm still in the process of reverting back to Catholicism. Recently i remembered the thing that absolutely kicked the legs out from under my faith: a 9th grade (2001) public school history class that made us learn a completely one-sided version of the Protestant "Reformation". Our history book may as well have been written by Martin Luther himself, it was just so explicitly anti Catholic! I didn't have any ammunition to fight what were very biased and outrageous claims, and instead i came away from that class believing the Catholic Church was stupid, evil, and hypocritical.

Hello Ciro, my advice is just to question everything and research it for yourself, have faith but don’t follow everything blindly, there’s answers and make sure you read your Bible, equip yourself with the scriptures then use that knowledge to explore religion.
Ps: I hope you fall in love with Jesus, remember that the Bible is a history book, not fiction. I suggest you start in the New Testament, one of the gospels (Mark is the fastest to read, and full of action) then the book of acts is the start of the Christian churches (churches that follow Jesus) and then jump around through the epistles because they are letters of correction sent to these churches. 🔥🕊❤️

I will follow the plan you laid out, thanks!

Thank you much for this! I am a Catholic evangelist and some of the first things you said are exactly what we teach. 1) Answer *their* questions. Until the point that the Lord convinces them, you need to give them *insurmountable* answers to their questions. There is no need to teach them about anything else until their issues have been resolved.

I had a friend who was raised Catholic but became agnostic as an adult. We talked about Catholicism all the time, and he told me if he’d known me when he was younger, he’d probably still be Catholic, and I’m by no means a theologian! He said in CCD, when he’d ask the nuns why Catholics did what we do, they’d answer “Just because!”

I was the classic case you talk about Bryan, given lacking “education” in CCD, my own mother taught it and when I had simple questions even she, the teacher, had no answers. I thought I knew everything about Catholicism and thought it was frail and weak because of the portrait I was given about it by my CCD and lack of support. It led me to a dark path of atheism but by the grace of God I have been led back. Now I realize I wasn’t the only one and I’m sad to learn there are so many kids who are like I was. I’m still a new revert to Catholicism but I would love to one day be strong enough in my faith to be a CCD teacher so I can save kids from falling away like I did. Actually have answers for their questions, teach them the fullness and truth of our faith. I can’t wait to keep learning about our amazing faith!

Well said! While I did grow up Catholic I always considered myself to be an agnostic until my junior year of high school, and then I kinda felt like a lukewarm Catholic that kinda contemplated falling away from the faith, it was quite honestly the worst period in my life, until I my 3rd year in college when I transferred schools I came across missionaries from a group called FOCUS and they played such a pitiful role in my life that I owe everything I have to them in playing a pivotal role in my reversion, had I not met them I quite honestly think I would be dead or still living the degenerate life I was living. I’m 24 now, in the process of joining the Third Order Dominicans and am on fire about the faith.

Thank you so much, just ordered the book did Jesus have a last name. Hoping it will help my nieces. Like many catholic families in Ireland they get baptised, first confession communion etc seeing it as a day for a party and gifys mainly but only go to church on what their mom calls special occasion. Their mom is very religious but going to mass weekly no.
I help out in my local church, first was in the youth group (no longer exists) for 10 years from good Friday march 2000 then stayed on when the youth group ended. I am the only one out of all my siblings that goes to mass weekly and truly believes in my Catholic faith which breaks my heart. I wish my nieces had more opportunity to explore their faith. They are young.

The faith needs to be presented as something that guides every action of every day. Memorizing trivia and being able to regurgitate it on a test does not work. Kids need to have a solid foundation of biblical study and historical context to appreciate the faith and how it has come to grow. I can say from experience that after simply memorizing facts and not knowing how to apply them to the world, I didn't really care about the faith or growing in it. It wasn't until I started reading the Bible, making an effort to understand what was going on at Mass, and actually praying every day that things started to turn around.

Brian, my son and I are in rcia currently. He’s 17 and I find it very sad that out church doesn’t have an actual youth group for young people his age. There’s no Sunday school, nothing! It’s a small farming community so not sure if that’s why. Is this a common thing amongst most CCs?

    • @CatholicTruthOfficial
      @CatholicTruthOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

@Kosmo77 - sorry for the delayed reply. I have been sick. Welcome to the Catholic Church. We are glad you are in RCIA but share your sorrow as well. What state do you live in? Small rural communities don't have much where others are flourishing, so it depends on the area and the church. Where we live up north, there are not many youth programs, then there are others where there are many.
We would recommend starting a youth group, or Sunday school at your church. I have started several youth groups at various churches I have gone to which are still there today in many cases. We are the church after all, and we always say, if there is nothing, start something. If not, are there any other churches in your area that might have something? I bet there are other people who want what you want, and so once you get adjusted in the parish and start meeting people, you can find people of like mind.
      Thoughts?
      Bryan

Give them reverence and actually act like Jesus Christ is in the Eucharist...and get rid of the horrible contemporary music. It's just bad hokie music and can't compete with contemporary music. It becomes just bad music. Focus on offering the sacrifice to God the Father and not on us. Give us silence to hear the voice of God speak to us. And for the love of God please stop ending the Mass with announcements. Do it during before the homily!!

Da youts* need to understand the Holy Spirit is there whether His Presence can be felt or not. Archbishop Sheen once spoke about young people claiming to get nothing from going to Mass - but Sheen challenged them to bring something TO Mass; their hopes, problems, dreams, and most of all to bring a heart open to Christ.
America’s young in particular are highly satiated with all kinds of social media and the Mass should, besides being the perfect form of prayer, be an escape from the world even if only for an hour or so. At Mass heaven and earth unite and that’s better than any entertainment in the universe.

Omnipotence paradox? A common modern version of the omnipotence paradox is expressed in the question: "Can [an omnipotent being] create a stone so heavy that it cannot lift it?" This question generates a dilemma. The being can either create a stone it cannot lift, or it cannot create a stone it cannot lift. If the being can create a stone that it cannot lift, then it is not omnipotent because there is a weight threshold beyond its own power to lift. If the being cannot create a stone it cannot lift, then there is something it cannot create, and is therefore not omnipotent. In either case, the being is not omnipotent. Then church will ague that God can only work within natural law, but that doesn't change anything about the argument ,and so that says he is bound my natural law then? ( he has his limits) but yet if you believe the mythos and stories he impregnated a woman without sex, and made a man out of clay ,and women out of a rib, I would say that's out of the realm of natural law. Or
For instance - feeding a hungry person. Is this act moral in and of itself -- and God then understands or realizes this -- and thus commands us to feed the hungry? Or is it rather that feeding the hungry is morally neutral in and of itself - neither good nor bad -- but the act becomes moral only when and if God commands it? If you think it is the former, then that means that morality clearly exists independently of God, and derives its status from something other than God. And if this is indeed the case, then God is essentially irrelevant to the matter, for we can define or recognize the morality in a given action -- such as feeding a hungry person -- without any need of or reference to God. In this case, feeding a hungry person is moral because it alleviates the suffering of the person ; no God necessary to deem feeding a hungry person as a moral act.
However, if you think it is the latter proposal -- that feeding a hungry person is a neutral act, neither moral nor immoral, but only becomes moral when and if God wills or commands it -- then what we call “morality” is nothing more than the unjustified whim and potentially unreasonable caprice of God. And this is a rather precarious position to accept, because it means that morality is simply whatever God says it is. Heck, God could command cruelty, and then by the logic of the argument, cruelty would be moral.
But God would command cruelty ?
Well, actually…God does. According to the Bible, God commands cruel and unjust things left and right. For example, God commands that we kill people who have sex outside of marriage (Leviticus 20:10) and he commands that we kill homosexuals (Leviticus 20:13), as well as people who work on the Sabbath (Exodus 35:2). God even commands that entire peoples -- such as the Canaanites and Jebusites -- be exterminated (Joshua 1- 12). , “that’s just the tip of the iceberg.” Indeed, to provide a comprehensive list of all the heinous commandments God issues would entail the writing of an entire book in and of itself - then someone said after Jesus arrived , the old testament wasn't reverent? Then I said I guess that makes the 10 commandment ill relevant then?
