Oh where should I start, I haven’t played this game since college, and I’m in my early 30s. But every time I hear the tone of “an old story from grandma” it brings tears to my eyes.

As long as I’ve known about mabi (which over 10yrs ago) I’ve never seen it on a tier list or any popular mmo streamer/creator talking about it. This probably one of my favorite mmo’s and it’s still looks amazing compared to a lot of newer ones! But hey man I love the video and keep up the good work!

Yeah I've noticed that too! Mabinogi doesn't get enough hype for its uniqueness and longevity. Also thank you for the kind words!

I think Mabi has become more of a chill game and a slower paced one; Of-cause if you have lots of spare money and an ungodly amount of free time who likes to grind in games.
One of the nicer lot of people i met in games some years ago however, which is a plus.

The combat at first can be slow and kind of odd, when you unlock more skills + Arcana's it really changes the pacing!

Astrology addition has been a double edge sword. Find it really powerful and fun but it killed any desire in me to work on my original goal of building/playing puppeteer. Waiting game to see when/if/how they improve the older skills.
There is also a bug right now that had stopped me being able to progress in the story. When a cutscene is suppose to play everything turns black and nothing happens. For awhile switching back-and-forth from Steam and Nexon's clients would get me past it. Mid point at G25 that method has stopped working. It has been assumed to be a windows 11 update causing trouble.

Recently got my hands on an ancient support puppet to make life easier. In between that I PTJ/Commerce while side eyeing the ever looming notion of dipping my toes into raiding/party content. There is another game due out end of next month, that'll for sure consume me whole, so I'm keeping my Mabinogi goals short term focused. One of those games you go at for a few months then take a break. Pop in a couple months later to see what is new or if an event catches your eye.

Negatives: PAY TO WIN, 10000% inexcusable predatory model EA wishes it could get away with. you hit the nail on the head with abysmal drop rates. the game does not respect your time.

@@thecasuallongsword Correct, this game is still fantastic and they still release awesome content regularly. Hell they just released a new set of skills related to combat and gave everyone a free "200m" item :o
Really the problem with Mabi is just that once you hit midgame and are transitioning to end game, everything turns into a gambling process.

The gambling obsession all anime themed online games have make it so painful to risk me liking it and wanting to invest time into it. I would try things like Mabi in a heartbeat if that was different but no anime mmo exists thats both good and not irl cash gamba.

Pay To Win depends on what a player views as PTW content. To me pay to win is making it difficult to play and progress through most content. You can get all the through Gen 26 in the story and get through over 90% of the game without spending a penny. However I do agree with others that it can become more pay to win for players that run the endgame raid dungeons Phantasm, Cromm, and Glenn. Plus for the players that consider fashion the endgame content it can definitely feel like pay to win since so many cosmetic items are in gacha. But just about any cash shop item can be sold for gold in Auction House including Pets, Gacha Items, and Premium Service. So the way the in game market works helps the cash shop stay in the gray area where it is not great but it is not overly horrible either. Also yes drop rates do suck and this is a game where you really have to grind content however it does respect your time in many other areas. Free players that make a effort to log in daily to work towards goals are rewarded quite well most of the time.

Bit lengthy comment incoming, but bear with me if interested... Mabinogi... P2W and RNG aspects is what massively makes me pull my hair off with this game and occasional incompetence of devs at times, as for one they never informed the new perseus scythe was permanent, and i crafted my own only to later learn via ticket and other people the event scythe was going to be permanent, essentially downgrading myself with worse scythe and losing kraken heart (rather valuable and rare drop) for no reason only because devs was not mentioning it being temp or permanent anywhere... Only thing i was told that they wont do anything, no compensation, nothing. And later when i heard about of this i already had failed spec up on the "event" scythe, because i thought it was gonna be for duration of event only... This was not the only experience i had, there's been so many awful moments like this which makes me both love and hate Mabinogi. The gameplay up to certain content is actually fun and doable, but when we talk about Crom or Glenn or Theta, man, I'd rather 100% avoid that content how stupidly difficult they made them. I am solo player, stuck in practically dead guild of my own as it holds sentimental value to me, nobody to run other than 1 friend who is consistently playing with me most of time. All skills 100% maxed and danned (except astral reave because my god even with slightest lag, you can't do it atm.)... I consider myself lategame player, not endgame, as i think endgame players are those with solunas and destructive robes, i have ruination staff, not even maxed erg because how ungodly amount of gold you need, and the enchants too, is so freaking absurd amount I can't keep up whatsoever. I consider myself lucky to have even ruination staff, and that too was from long saving and lucky gacha drops. The game is fun early and midgame, but you will suffer in late and endgame depending whether you whale or not, to me it's awfully stressful. Been playing Mabinogi ever since G3 in Mabi EU or so, but got shut down, then moved to Nexon NA's Mabi. Ever since I been *mostly* solo or duo with few I have knew. Early and mid game is fun, because you actually have decent chance to progress equally with everyone. Late and endgame only serves lucky people, rich people, or highly social people in large parties, everyone else feels pretty much left out if none of the three. That's basically my experience with Mabi so far. ...And also having to deal with lag as EU player, doesn't help with anything.

When i tried it, the avatars looked they were drawn by a child with not even an ounce skill. It was as if they had the pros do everything else...then fired everyone and hired talentless children to do the avatars. The mouths...were random squiggles.

Yeah, wayyyy way back in the day like... 2008-2010 and a little time onwards from that, it was super basic as far as character customization went. There wasn't a lot for that, and also outfits didn't have movement to them, really, or it was minimal.
It's definitely come a long way lol Played it over 10 years and the improvements are getting progressively better as time goes on.

Cool game, unfortunately needs a revamp of the combat. Feels like blocks awkwardly trying to slide in place. And Nexon's shitty cutthroat pay-to-win is at an all time high and it doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
Oh and new time players don't worry there's only about 20 years of content to enjoy so make sure to take your time and take it all in! Also the attendance event is about to end this month! Better fork over your cash, this stuff is never coming back! What a joke.

      @The_RealH3R0  16 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

I get where you’re coming from-frustrations with a game you enjoy can really sting. But I think there’s another way to look at this.
The combat might feel clunky at first, but sometimes that’s part of the charm or learning curve. Games like this often have their own rhythm, and once you get the hang of it, it can feel really satisfying. Plus, developers often tweak things based on feedback, so there’s always a chance it could improve down the line.
Yeah, Nexon’s monetization model can feel aggressive, but a lot of players still manage to enjoy the game without spending much-or anything at all. With enough patience and strategy, you can often grind out what you need. It’s not perfect, but it doesn’t have to ruin the experience either.
“20 years of content” might sound overwhelming, but isn’t it kind of amazing that there’s so much to explore? New players have a treasure trove of adventures waiting for them. It’s not a race-take your time, soak it all in, and enjoy it at your own pace.
Missing out on event items can feel rough, but they’re often about creating excitement and rewarding active players. Who knows? A lot of these things make a comeback eventually, or there’s always something new on the horizon to look forward to.
At the end of the day, no game is perfect, but there’s clearly something special here if it’s stuck around for so long. Instead of focusing on the annoyances, it can be more fun to dive into what makes it unique-and who knows? The devs might surprise us with improvements if the community stays constructive.

Happened onto this video after seeing some update on Steam. I'll do those of you on the fence a favor. I am among the few who learned not to waste their time on this game the hard way. That nostalgic feeling you have, it's a thing of the past. You aren't missing out on anything. The only saving grace is that the community is cool. But other than that, the game is just God awful. P2W is ridiculous; to the point even your homestead items provide additional stat boosts and the fucking reforging tools. And don't let these people tell you "You can just acquire them from the game, and trade other players." The players actually running content aren't running things you need to run if you're playing; so, have fun running solo most of the content. I can go on and on; but really it only should take word to discourage you from playing this game.
    It's run by Nexon.
GG no re, 0/10, stay clear. You are welcome for saving your time.
PS: Make sure you do drop a like on Hero's video though; like I said, no shade at the community.

As someone that's played Mabi for about ~12 years now, the 'Mabinogi' that we once knew no longer exists...your point about the "nostalgia" is spot on. The one point I'd argue with is that the "Homestead items provide additional stat boosts" isn't really a P2W thing? You can get those from events or just buying them with gold.
That being said, there's still some elements of the older Mabi that still exist today, but I think the key to enjoying the game is being headstrong on whatever it is you want to accomplish. That could be anything from Fashionogi to chilling w/friends, making/playing music, skills or building up your equipment (which is where the 'P2W' comes into play, be warned). Once you find the thing(s) that works for you, the older magic of Mabi can still shine through (even if not as bright lol)
