  • MOVIE REACTION ► A Christmas Carol (1984) - FIRST TIME WATCHING The conclusion I can draw after watching the movie is "A Christmas Carol" : A very instructive and touching Christmas story. I would like to note the excellent direction of Clive Donner. The combination of the tragic and the comic in the film creates a truly enchanting effect. As well as the wonderful music of Nick Bicât, which is etched into the memory for a long time. What do you say?

This is my favorite version. George C. Scott has a very unique voice, incredible range, and powerful delivery. Your analysis was outstanding! It's always special to see a review from someone who has a background in cinema. I would love to see a review where you speak entirely in Russian with English subtitles while you watch classic "American" movies. It would be a fun way to learn Russian and I'd appreciate the Russian perspective of American cinema. First class editing, as always. Please keep doing more episodes!

@@abarsukovafilmed in the beautiful town of Shrewsbury where I grew up. The writer of A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens often stayed in Shrewsbury so fitting that it was filmed there.

The Ghost of Christmas Future helped influence me as a child for my artistry. Such a powerful and thought provoking imagery. This whole movie funnily enough was artistically inspiring for me. This is definitely the best version.

There is a wonderful version of this that was made for television in 1999 and stars Patrick Stewart as Ebenezer Scrooge. It actually delves more into the character's early years, the relationship with his sister and losing the love of his life and how he became more and more bitter. Certainly worth a watch for anyone interested. BTW, today is my birthday so I'm wishing every single person who reads this (and everyone who doesn't) the very best for the new year. We all deserve a MUCH better 2021. Stay safe everyone. Cheers from Florida.

My absolute favorite version, and the most faithful to the book, although a few things have been changed? Most elements are intact and I've seen better representations of more specific moments from the book in other versions. But this is the version I watched repeatedly for GCSE English many years ago, so it has a special place in my heart. 🎄

I've seen them all including The Muppet Christmas Carol with Michael Caine (#2 on my list). This is my favorite. George C Scott (Patton, The Hospital, Petulia, The Changeling) was a very dynamic actor who's range of emotion was very broad. Nice reaction 👍

This version is my favorite. I think if you ask anybody what is their favorite version of "A Christmas Carol", they'll either say the 1951 version, starring Alistair Sim, which is very good also, or this version. I enjoyed your review, and I agree with you about the music. Music adds so much to a story, probably more than we realize. You're the first person I've heard mention that. I hope you review other versions of "A Christmas Carol" I would love to see that. The 1971 animated version is very good, even though it is short. I also like the 1970 musical version with Albert Finney, even though they totally change the "Ghost of Christmas Future" segment. And the "Muppets Christmas Carol" is also very good.

That's the good thing about "A Christmas Carol". There are countless versions of it, but it seems like each one puts their own spin on it, but they still remain somewhat faithful to the original source, so you still get the gist of the story.

This is my favorite version of A Christmas Carol
George C. Scott is my favorite Scrooge
It's not hard to see why he hates the holiday so much if you look into his past
The love of his life abandoned him
His best friend and business partner died
And his sister who he loved more than anything also died
    All around the holiday season
The holiday is a harsh reminder of how alone he really is
So he internalizes his pain and lashes out at anyone who finds joy in the time of year that brought him so much suffering

This is not my favorite version (that honor goes to the Alistair Sim version), but I will admit Scott played the most stubborn and unrepentant rendition of Scrooge--constantly trying to justify himself to the spirits. While I think that's apropos for Scott as an actor, I also think it kind of takes away from the story. Like the audience is supposed to want to see Scrooge repent...not get what's coming to him.
