I have my eyes to flowers fauna trees & clouds( Norfolks big skies ) as a rule I hear the birds & appreciate the songs my favourite birds are Robins Bluetits & while visiting Iceland loved the Puffins 💙
I expect there are swallows on my walks but a tunefull bird is just a bird to me 😄😁😃😀

We had hired a holiday boat last year from middlewich and cruised this stretch. We intended to take our 15 year old basset for one last holiday but unfortunately she didn't make it. We had a lovely toast to the old girl in the pub though. Beautiful little stretch of canal to have our tribute to her.

Hello from Peterborough, Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦. I stumbled across your TH-cam channel and have binge watched your amazing journey from start to current with absolute delight. Although I have never been to the UK, I have an affinity for this wonderful country. My Nana hailed from Yorkshire, born in 1890 and shared so many fascinating stories. There is a Canal System close to where I live that is a treasure. The Trent-Severn Waterway is a 386-kilometer (240 miles) long canal route connecting Lake Ontario at Trenton to Georgian Bay, Lake Huron, at Port Severn. Construction began in 1833 but was not complete until 1920
42 locks, including two ‘Flight’ locks, two ‘Lift’ locks and a ‘Marine Railway’ lock. Parks Canada maintains and operates these national historic sites to make travel possible for boaters and paddlers along this beautiful waterway.
The Province of Ontario also has two other major Canal Systems that you could take a ‘Google’ peek at, the Rideau Canal & the Sault Ste. Marie Canal.

Hello, I live in Oakville, ON. I have travelled our waterways several times by boat and houseboat. Loved each trip but I must admit the scenery was not quite as beautiful as the English countryside and waterways!😍🇨🇦

Swallows are the most beautiful birds to be around. They seem to have relatively little fear of humans and I often find that if you are near somewhere that they frequently perch then they will happily sit within a metre or so of you. And they're such characters!

I loved the Rolt quote about the relationship between the church and the pub. When I lived in a tiny village I had the walk past the churchyard on my way to the pub, and it brought a smile to my face thinking of the old drinking companions as I passed them bye on the way for a pint or two.

I love how you have plotted your narrow boat survival guide based on Maslow's pyramid. In the USA we nicknamed the Saddleback Harvestman "Daddy Long Legs." Lovely walk while you and Zephyr posted your books in town. I love the old bridge that was "chock-a-block" with sparrow, which is a new word for me. "Chuff" is another favorite UK expression. The swallows were beautiful to watch and certainly a richness of swallows! T'was fun watching you chase Zephyr with a towel after you gave her a bath! I love being witness to your amazing journey. I foraged clover in Colorado where I lived for many years. And of course we also have fireweed. And the barn swallows were my friends where I did yoga at a boathouse in a park in Denver. It is wonderful to see my friends again in another part of the world. Thank you!

This week your vlog had such a different twist to it, WELL DONE. I am going to watch it for a second time. Maslow was such an interesting person with interesting ideas. I wonder what his definition of a "friend" is. Unfortunately we use too many words these days without thinking about their true meaning for example friend and love. Sadly Maslow has left us.
Have you ever picked the clover florets and sucked the nectar from them? If not you may be amazed at how sweet it is and understand the attraction that bees have for them.

Hi Mark, Maslow's Hierarchy is so interesting in its simplicity isn't it? In the modern day we are led to believe we need so many things but they don't really improve our happiness and enjoyment of life do they? "Friend" is a word that is used quite flippantly too and I think that it is someone that you truly enjoy spending time with and that time is comfortable, easy and unforced. They should add a meaning and value to your life and likewise you to theirs. Social media has made having a quantity of friends the most important thing which is completely different. What a coincidence that you spoke of the little hand painted cards you send with your books. Because this past week my husband treated me to your 2022 book for my birthday which is best birthday present ever. I absolutely love it and was so excited to see the little bookmarker in there. Heart heart heart. And the next best thing about this gift was that it came via Royal Mail!! How cool! I've never received Royal Mail before seeing as I live in the United States! I feel special now. I really enjoy your nature/poem journal at the end of your vlog. Your artwork is fantastic. I watched vlog #182 and seen you lost your chimney when you went under the bridge. You should attach a wire or cable to the chimney and it's base, then it won't fall into the canals. Take care and keep up your wonderful journey 's.

"The benign tolerance of old age..." made me lol given that I know so many intolerant old buggers 😂 Beautiful to see the swallows up close though. Reminded me of a time I was working in a shop and a young swallow flew in through an open window and stumbled about the stockroom. I always smile near the end of your vlog when you leaf through your journal. The picture of the emu always brings a smile to my face. Earlier this year, in our summer, a pair of emus took up residence in a field I pass most days driving my son to work. Over the course of this year, they managed to raise a pair of chicks, which are now practically full grown! I always think of your videos when I see them. Love and blessings from the Land Down Under. Thank you for taking us along on that journey. What a privilege to have that swallow so close to you. Swallows are not indigenous to our area (rainforest), but we have them anyway. They made their way up the mountain and found an old cafe to roost on. The cafe got torn down, so they flew away, but I noticed a couple of them had returned in the spring. Watching them is wonderous.

I haven't heard about Maslow's Hierarchy of needs since university. Love this vlog, swallows are so amazing to watch, in fact any creature is great to watch. The only real downside to narrowboating is choosing a route where you can get supplies etc. Take care as always. =-)

Great video again. Enjoy your walks and pictures of wildlife around your countryside. It is on my bucket list to visit the UK sometime. My Father spent over five years over there jurying the war around Scotland as homeguard and in the forestry unit. He love it there and talk fondly of his time there. Someday I hope.
Have you tried dry shampoo for dogs. We use it on our Golden Retriever all the time. Works amazing. Thanks again for an enjoyable video.

Thank you Vanessa for this beautiful vlog again! In the Netherlands I use for my boat GTL (Gas To Liquid) fuel. I buy at the road as I have a car, but is rare at the road. On waterway fuelstations you see it more and more. But also HVO I have seen. It is made out of gas by Shell and is an ancient process. It is very clean, pollutes less and gives you a cleaner engine. For old engines and pipes/filters beware that it can cause some leaking because it is thinner and can penetrate a little the seals. So some people stopped using it.. But this did not happen to my installation. (Mercedes OM 636 from 1980) Also maybe because I fitted new fuel lines? Bye Casper

It really is a good spot, have moored there too😁, have been following your Journey on the Caldon Canal, Peak Forest & Maccy & now onto Middlewich Branch, did the Cheshire Ring last year for 3 weeks on Hire Boat so has bought back many memories, thinking of Buying my own Boat now, but only for Leisure not full Liveaboard but lots to decide on as you well know & have mentioned about in your vlogs. I never thought of survival on a narrowboat before but u made it sound sense, breaking down the necessities to live and exist and organise the priorities for a life a float. Topping up water, finding waste disposal, a secure mooring spot etc... and it can take a whole day sometimes to get that all done, but still we have access to such wonderful views and slow speeds to enjoy them. Everything about your videos is a work of art; the artist in you is always at play. It's easy sometimes when watching these types of videos, to only see the boat part; traveling the canals, the locks, mooring, etc. but there's much more to this lifestyle, isn't there? It's almost like you're living a vacation, having to look for a fuel stop, buying groceries, and the things you need in order to live on your boat. I've watched enough of your videos that I've come to think of it as a privilege, as though I'm watching someone who in the future will be heralded as one of those cherished authors you refer to from their books and journals you read. I like that you showed the Brickwork Bridges, the Girder & Rivet Bridge 🙂 - Then - The rather Bland Concrete Bridge 😞 .... And the Whispey-Spider - We used to have loads in Our garden shed and I used to chase my older sister away with them 😄 ..... But that shopping trip??? .... Hope you don't need to do that too often ...... I showed my daughter your book, She loved it and also commented on the little card saying what a lovely touch ... And it is! ..... Swifts?? - Every year we get them, even though we live in a town centre - must be the Churches nearby .... They Flit - Fly, and SWOOP down through the streets in the morning and the evening, then high in the sky before dusk ... A great sight that usually lasts a few weeks at least 🙂 ... This year? - Not ONE! ... Don't know what's going on, but it can't be healthy 😞 ..... Seeing you wash Zeph' there ... My daughter has a spaniel that's forever finding Fox Pooh to roll in .. PHEW!!! .... And what a job when they get home? ... Does Zeph' do that? If So - HOW on earth do you cope in a Narrowboat? 😂😂
