So glad to see the progress on your raised garden beds and to see Sam once again measuring , pondering, preparing, and building. Watching him is a balm to the soul, allowing one for a moment to feel a part of something almost miraculous. After all, you all are creating something out of what was once a ruin. From the ashes, so to speak. Also, I've said it before, Rebecca, and I'll say it again. I love your caring heart. Your lovely creatures are so fortunate to have you taking care of them, ensuring they are warm, sheltered, and well-fed in the harshness of winter. So glad you gave us a mid-week peek. A loverly surprise, indeed. Happy rest of the week! 🥰
Becky, your animals are so lucky to have such a kind caregiver. Even the birds-they probably tell their friends all over where there is food during the bitter winter days when they probably wouldn’t find anything! Thank you!
As my folks got older, they stopped replacing the animals as the aged and died. But our Mule 'Sleepy' lingered on. We fed him on Bermuda grass, hay and Crimped oats, along with the crab apples that were too sour for us. He did get a bit 'porky', but he was in his late twenties so we spoiled him. Our cats all loved to sleep on his back and he never seemed to mind... Long gone now, but i still remember his snorting bellow waking me in the mornings...
What a lovely surprise to see a Wednesday vlog. Yet again you both never disappoint us. You care for all the animals, attention to details in the garden and in the cottage. You are absolutely amazing.
I've got a bad cold, a runny nose, and I am coughing lots. Then I see this latest posting. I feel a LOT better. Thanks Bec and Sam. Medicine comes in many forms..
Loved seeing the new ducks out on the pond. The beds are looking great for the spring. You’ll work so hard. It all will be beautiful when the house is done. Looking forward to the next video.
Love your choice of music!! Upbeat and cheery! I fancy myself an animal lover, but I can't hold a candle to you Bec, God will bless your care for others and animals over yourself, I am sure of that!! Happy 2025!
I get a lot of satisfaction walking on frozen mud, especially if there are small frozen puddles made from old footprints that crack under my feet. I can imagine that feeling watching you guys working on your garden beds and walking around the property 😊
I am watching your progress on your Irish homestead with great interest! My McGough ancestors here in the United States came from County Down in 1771. I have always wanted to visit the area of my mom’s family’s roots. Seeing what you are doing , it makes me sad to know that, at age 75 and with a bad back, I will probably never get to see Ireland up close. Follow your dreams. Hold your blessings close !
It's a treat to see you both get so much from your projects , your passion for the job is inspiring and we are lucky in Ireland to have you here. Míle Fáilte romhaibh. ❤
Absolutely. It's wonderful to see these lovely old buildings made into homes again. If the brilliant stonemasons who built them yrs ago could see the work being done now to revive them, they would be happy. This ltl homestead got a great family who have settled into the community already. Ye have protected the animals from the artic blast..now get yerselves in outa the cold. P.s Becky..no guilt about the incubator...plenty of time to do it in nxt few mths.
What a happy surprise to see a video mid-week. You two are a great team! The garden is going to be beautiful blooming in its stone borders. Looking at the house from the garden perspective…just amazing & gorgeous …may you all have many, many years of joy & good health in your beautiful home!
Aww, the runner ducks look so bemused at their frozen pond as they march around on it! I love how all the animals gather around to supervise any project you’re working on. The raised beds are looking great! So many details of the building running through Sam’s head, but if there’s any doubt, you can’t go wrong building something stronger. Oh Lord- got a jump scare when that timber fell down, just missing Sam’s head! Thank you guys for the peace and happiness you provide us viewers. Just to get away in our minds and spend some time with you, is very restorative to the spirit. Take care and be well. ❤️🇨🇦❄️☃️
Thanks so much. Yes it feel intense at the moment. Time is ticking and it's been harder than expected to get back into the house renovations! We are on track again now. 🤞♥️
As a Canadian living in one of the colder parts (average January temp -16 C), “cold” is relative. We welcome your degree of “cold” in January. Take care.
We had a winter in Ireland in 2010 where it got down to -18° at night and -12° during the day. Lasted a month. But having spent time in colder climates, the buildings, infrastructure, activities etc. mean it doesn’t feel all that different. A Slovak I worked with said that although it was regularly -20° in Slovakia and occasionally -30° that the coldest he’s ever been was walking through a town in the west of Ireland on a damp day where the temperature was about 2° and the wind was howling. I actually prefer the colder weather when we get it in Ireland because it means high pressure, no wind and no rain.
Nobody can understand the Irish peoples aversion to the cold. We have, luckily a temperate climate with winters seldom getting snow. We are not geared for it. We don’t have snow shovels , seldom see snow ploughs. So yes we are not used to the cold.
It’s not the cold, but the damp that gets me. After a week of sub freezing temps, the humidity is gone from the air. Once that happens I’ve worked comfortably all day in just a sweater and a jacket.
Ooooo that looks so cold Bec! I remember an extraordinary late Spring blizzard in Ireland and being so cold I was afraid to walk because I couldn't feel my feet and was sure I'd fall over them, or leave them behind, if I moved suddenly! In winter it's easy to understand why 'murphs' became the foundation of everything served up. There were times I half expected to discover a hidden tatty to pop out of my pudding at Aunt Bella's house 😂. You take such all encompassing and thoughtful care of your farm animals and then add all the wildlife into the equation as well...Bless you. And Sam, you make all that stud work look so easy, yet manage everything on your own. So good to have the team back together again.....thank you for letting us tag along.
Super video. The house looks amazing on those drone shots. What a difference a proper roof makes. It is just phenomenal how much progress you have made.
Hi All, really lovely video, we are busy looking after our wildlife, to cold for all the wee birds 🐦 and our squirrels are waiting on the tree looking in the window 😅. None stop feeding time. Thanks again for Our Wednesday treat 😊
Becca your over-head drone shots are marvelous..giving us a wonderful view of the build... As another commenter said "a home rising from the ashes" made me wonder at the name you will call your home...perhaps something like The Phoenix Roost...you brought this home back just like the phoenix..rising from the ashes... It's wonderful to see Sam back at the grind..everything will be full-tilt-ahead now... The weather you're having is much like the cold we're experiencing here in Kentucky..superlow temps, snow and ice..matter of fact we have tree branches fallen from the neighbor's pines laying across our driveway as the ice became too heavy for them... God bless and stay warm...
Thanks Pamela. It's good to be back at the renovation. Sam needed the break from it but yes full steam ahead now. That deadline at the end of March is looming! 🫣 Hope you stay warm & safe.
The good news I suppose is that there's no mud at -5...😐. We're having the same temperatures here in New York. 🥶. Winters can be a trying time for some folks as they struggle to stay warm. I can imagine that some of Sam's "call outs" are probably related to chimney/heat related problems. I do hope that the grant folks will cut you some slack for that fact. Good to see that another piece of the puzzle has been completed. Thanks so much for the spesh !
I’m following your progress every video you post. It’s amazing how far you’ve came, when you showed previous videos. You’ll not know what to do with yourselves when it’s all done 👍👏👏
It must be cold all over the northern hemisphere - here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, we're going down to 9 degrees Fahrenheit tonight! The stud work is looking good. And the animals are all snug in their various homes. Stay warm, everyone!
Happy New Year all at the Irish Homestead 😍🤩 I hear you Sam as it is a bit hard after a break getting back into the swing of it all. The veggie garden is coming along beautifully - so luv the stone walls - here's for 2025 being a great year for all cheers Debz from Oz
Becky, please fix the reflective tape hanging on his right jacket sleeve. It could be a safety hazard for him with his construction work and it drives me crazy. 😅 It might be very cold there but your videos warm my heart. ❤ The house is really shaping up with the framing, great job. Love the animals.
Just love the way you all look after your animals so cared for and can see the way they interact with you all. Wish others had the same care. When I had cats they never caught birds and think it was because they were so well feed and spoilt that they were just happy to lounge around. Your garden will be great in the spring once all completed. You are having minus 5 and this week we will have 45. Been mostly high 30’s and 40 but it is summer in a desert.
We moved to the Bahamas to assist in the ministry there. We could not bring livestock into the country, so we brought 12 fertile eggs and an incubator. The electricity there was unreliable and the last few days my wife moved the incubator in and out of the gas oven. All 12 Rhode Island Reds were successfully hatched and grew into beautiful chickens. The island we moved to did not have large chickens, just Banty's. The Hattians would come around just to see real chickens. Our Bahamas Adventure 🐔
The Homestead looks amazing now , doors and windows will make it a real Homestead. Just how you are going to keep the Critters out will be interesting😊😊😊😊.Keep going you are doing anv amazing job. Waiting for the doors and windows big reveal. The family that plays /works together, stays together. Love from a veryvery chilly West Yorkshire. I love to read how far and wide people are watching from, tell us in your comments please.
A lovely mid-week surprise. The gardens are going to be great, can't wait to see them planted up once the cold weather subsides. It is coming together nicely
It's lovely to see you both in this frosty new year! It's pretty frozen over here also in the states with about 6" of snow in my yard - brrr! Take care now and best wishes to you all :)
Wonderful video- full of the animals and watching Sam working on the raised gardens then the indoor studding. There’s always some progress going on and it’s so exciting to watch. God Bless and have a safe week.
You’re making progress on the interior of the house, the garden and doing a great job caring for the animals. I love the photo of the paneling lining the wide depth of the doorway. I have an old stone house with the wide depth doorways and they are paneled. In my opinion you can’t go wrong with that lovely paneling. ❤
It was so cute watching you feed the birds . . .I do the same thing, I have lots of little spots where I put the seed for them, I think some birds are more shy then others and feel comfortable eating in a quieter spots. Thank you for feeding the birds. :)
Finding a good balance when you have a massive project in front of you that lets you balance life, family, enjoyment is SO important! Its so easy to get hyper-focused on the big project (I can say that since that used to be me!) but life and our families need us to be engaged and WE need to down time so we don't get burned out. Hard to do sometimes, but so worth it! Love watching your progress from Ohio, US. (We lost our farmhouse to fire in 2022 so the last couple years have been rebuilding and fine-tuning our new cottage-my massive project.)
I love that you feed the gorgeous little birds in the chilly weather. 🐦⬛. Don’t worry too much about the chicken eggs, you have so much on your plate and are doing a fab job. Enjoy your holiday with family.
it is so nice to see the renovation and also how the animals are doing. nice that the birds are also thought of who now have a harder time finding food. hopefully you will continue in this way. my compliance to you. greetings from the Netherlands. see you next time
Don't forget to put fresh water out for them too. I know it's difficult & freezes over, but all other sources for them will be frozen too. I put some out & then swap the dishes around when it freezes so they have some. They love sunflower hearts too & mealworms. It costs a fortune looking after them & all our pets, but they are worth it & what keep the land cycle turning along with the insects. I wouldn't worry too much about the bunnies & guinea pigs, they huddle together for warmth. My old rabbits had a big hutch outside & it had a wooden piece that went over the cage/mesh side. It covered most of it, but when it got really cold (-12) I put some heavy clear plastic over. Obviously they had extra bedding & food & I had to swap their drinking bottles around as they kept freezing up a bit, but they were warm & the hutch was insulated too. I just worried about the front cage but letting the cold in. Once it was covered though, I could tell the difference in temperature when I stuck my hands in to feed them & check on them. I did put them in the brick shed the first winter but they stopped eating their food. Apparently because they couldn't see, or hear, what was going on, they were anxious & stopped eating. The nosey parkers were fine once they were put back in "their spot", but covered up & protected. They make us worry so much, but tougher than we think & give us so much back. 💕💕
Well done Sam with the stud work it's coming along nicely. I love the way your looking after all the animals, plus all your feathered friends. It's freezing over here in Lancashire as well. Stay safe and warm, with luck it will soon be spring.
Enjoyed your video today. You are not exaggerating the cold.We have snow and ice like I'm sure you have in Leitrim .Be careful in this weather. I love how Sam got the fire lighting. Take care and God bless you all xxxx
As you guys are freezing your butts off there, here in Western Australia in the Sth West, it has been really hot. It`s been cool today , but will climb up to the heat again. Cheers. Gr8 video tonight, Wednesday.
That bigger lintel sure looks better than the first one. That first one made me feel uneasy on first sight ( builders daughter )it’s progressing really quickly. Love the garden beds. 🇦🇺🎸⚡️🤘🏼🤘🏾💋💙
My Wife got me an Irish Homestead Hoddie for Crimbo, 100% Cotton. This is a rare thing when these days most clothes are polystyrene ( plastic). Top class
Good to see how well fed the birds are and your animals cozy and well fed too❤ happy days to you all and keep warm! Hot here in Australian summer🦘☀️cheers🌻🪺🐾
I love how kind you are to animals and I am sure it inspires others to do the same..I know I'm inspired.. Your back in the game Sam..this year is a big one for your cottage..
We too in Ohio & surrounding states in the USA and north in Canada are experiencing the polar vortex, ultra-cold air spinning like a top 15-30 miles (24-48km) high. It usually stays penned up above the North Pole. But sometimes it escapes or stretches down to the United States, Europe or Asia. It seems we're all experiencing it together! But the winds are gone now and the sun has been out the last several days which is great! The frost is pretty though! The sunrise and sunset are so beautiful where you live with all of the natural scenery! It's nice to see progress on the raised beds and on the inside of the cottage! The animals are resilient! Stay well and warm! God Bless all of you!
Garden is coming on well and the progress in the house. Thanks for the update on all the animals, love seeing them all. Your little dog (sorry I can’t remember his name) is outside more now than he was before x
Love your channel. Thanks for the mid week update. Sam is so like my brother can't sit still for more then 5 mins to drink his coffee. Makes me smile everytime. So nice to see you taking care of your animals. I wish I had money to buy a small farm holding. I do feed the birds and right now it is -30 celcius in northern Ontario, Canada so I am putting out an extra ration to help them thru this cold spell. May 2025 bring your family many blessings and continued health, happiness and love. God bless.
Having an arctic blast here in Oklahoma also, not quite as low of temps as you are having but still bitter cold! Glad to see everyone looking happy, healthy, and staying warm!
Beautiful! What a treat to come back from my early morning routine and find a video to watch whilst I drink my coffee. Treacherous outside here with icy roads and pavements. In the future you could probably have a hot bed in your garden or polytunnel. You’ll have the materials for it onsite. Lovely to see all the developments, great stuff!

They are amazing to be honest. I really don't like them ;-)
So glad to see the progress on your raised garden beds and to see Sam once again measuring , pondering, preparing, and building. All true❤.
Becky, your animals are so lucky to have such a kind caregiver. Even the birds-they probably tell their friends all over where there is food during the bitter winter days when they probably wouldn’t find anything! Thank you!
She reminds me of snow white with how she is with her animals. Its lovely ❤
More power to your elbow! Grand job. Paul from Dublin
Ahh that's a lovely memory to have. ♥️
They are our best friends.
What a lovely surprise to see a Wednesday vlog. Yet again you both never disappoint us. You care for all the animals, attention to details in the garden and in the cottage. You are absolutely amazing.
Thank you so much!
I love that the cat and dog get along so well as supervisors😂
I question Sam letting the chicken supervise the framing.
Not just the best construction, repair and restoration work, also the best edited and produced vjdeos. From a South African supporter... 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Thank you thats very kind.
I've got a bad cold, a runny nose, and I am coughing lots. Then I see this latest posting. I feel a LOT better. Thanks Bec and Sam. Medicine comes in many forms..
Happy to help! Hope you feel better soon.♥️
Loved seeing the new ducks out on the pond. The beds are looking great for the spring. You’ll work so hard. It all will be beautiful when the house is done. Looking forward to the next video.

Your attention to detail throughout the property and care of your animals is a delight to share. With Sam carrying on without a beard is chilling.

Shame, the poor ducks must be thinking, what the heck happened to our pond lol.😂

Becca, you are great at looking after the animals. It is so cold here that all the animals need to be kept fed and watered. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The aerial views at the start showed us the structure and order you have brought to a wild piece of land in a relatively short time - well done ! 🎉
The good news I suppose is that there's no mud at -5...😐. We're having the same temperatures here in New York. 🥶. Winters can be a trying time for some folks as they struggle to stay warm. I love that you feed the gorgeous little birds in the chilly weather. 🐦⬛. Don’t worry too much about the chicken eggs, you have so much on your plate and are doing a fab job. Enjoy your holiday with family.
Thank you. Have to look after all the animals - including the birds. ♥️
11:41 ooh the wood paneling in the doorway would look gorgeous ❤ absolutely you should
Everything is looking wonder. The ducks are so cute!
it is so nice to see the renovation and also how the animals are doing. nice that the birds are also thought of who now have a harder time finding food. hopefully you will continue in this way. my compliance to you. greetings from the Netherlands. see you next time
Thank you. I love the birds and hope eventually planting more trees will bring them more shelter in these conditions in the years to come
@@theirishhomestead sounds like a good idee 👍🏼
Good on you for taking such good care of the animals. 💖🤗🐦🐕🐴🐓🐈⬛💖
Well done Sam with the stud work it's coming along nicely.
I love the way your looking after all the animals, plus all your feathered friends.
It's freezing over here in Lancashire as well.
Stay safe and warm, with luck it will soon be spring.
I laughed out loud when I saw the ducks walking on the ice. Great to see Benji out and about. I just love him.
You two are such hard workers! Wishing a you both a bit of warm cozy time to recharge.

Doing manual work in the frost soon warms you up,
It's bad out there. Stay warm both. ♥️
I love Nell keeping tabs on you both ( & the others in her ‘herd’ )🌟. Good morning from Tasmania, Australia 🦘
Looks like you can make a fun hidden cubby above that door between the two sections you’re making that cool thick wood paneling walk through. 👍
Thays a good idea. Only problem is nearly 100k people will know it's there! 🤣
Yep. Looks pretty fresh out there. Nice to see Sam has his smart firemans beard on !!!!
What a lovely surprise to get a Wednesday Video!
Made my day ❤
So glad!
My Wife got me an Irish Homestead Hoddie for Crimbo, 100% Cotton. This is a rare thing when these days most clothes are polystyrene ( plastic). Top class

Your back in the game Sam..this year is a big one for your cottage..
Hardy Board is an amazing piece of building material!!! So exciting to witness “walls” and “spaces” become REAL!!!
hi darlings... much love... xxc
Back into the swing again, surging ahead. The stone edging is a great achievement, and the beds will be a lovely feature in growing season.❤
Everything is looking good
Garden is coming on well and the progress in the house. Thanks for the update on all the animals, love seeing them all. Your little dog (sorry I can’t remember his name) is outside more now than he was before x
Beautiful shot of the geese walking across the ice covered pond- beautiful light, sweet scene.
Now I really can ”see ” your house and area in the spring ❤Its going to be beautiful
God bless.
Sunflower hearts are great for the wild birds especially the finches.
Omg. That looks cold, poor old ducks ice skating. Hope your raised beds do well for you.😊😊
Lol we did break the ice for them on the nearside but they insisted on checking it all out.
That is going to be a lovely entry between the two rooms! HNY to you all 🎉
Yes while the ground is hard ,doing stonework is a good plan
Happy New Year to you all. A few small gifts on the way.
Ah thank you. ♥️
Good morning! Yes, terrible conditions. I'm staying home today!
