  • Avantae Deven adopted three boys and two girls from three different counties in North Carolina. Only 3 out of the five survived her brand of motherhood.
    The abuse allegedly went on for years, but the secret didn’t come out until fall 2023.
    Do you think social services needs to be overhauled so this kind of neglect can’t continue?

    As someone who was adopted at an older age and had a very rough go with emotional/mental abuse from my adoptive parents', I still count myself lucky not to have had a mother like this! Once I grew older, my parents' and I communicated and could start the road to healing together. That doesn't always happen. Those poor little ones.😞🕊️🕯️

    Social services needs to be held responsible this stuff is happening all the time and most of the time they're more worried about people they don't need to be worried about the people that they really need to be worried about. Just because a child is adopted out they still need to be checking on them.

    Social Services is bizarre in how they operate. Back in ~1996, after my parents divorced, they were like vulture over my mom. But the thing is, my brother, sister and I spent years pleading with the courts to not make us visit our dad. He had been in jail for domestic abuse numerous times, had once threatened to burn the house down with us in it while in a drunken rampage. He'd regularly beaten my mom within an inch of her life. Yet the courts still required that we spend every other week at dad's and not ONCE did Social Services visit his house.
    But you'd better believe they were at mom's constantly. She worried all the time that they'd show up unannounced, decide that they didn't think there was enough food in the cabinets and take us from her. Meanwhile, after a final showdown where my middle school guidance counselor said she'd go to jail before she let me get on the bus to dad's again and I was no longer going out there, my little siblings were still doing weekly time with dad and coming home crying because all they'd eaten all week was mustard and grape jelly out of the jars.
    Social Services was a joke in the 90s and I doubt they're any better now.

    • @butterflythornton6143
      @butterflythornton6143 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They're not. I thought I could help the system one set of siblings at a time but they just get sent back home to save the state money. One judge said "this case is costing the state too many resources ” my heart dropped. So it cost too much to care. 😢 Just sad to watch. Either the state bothers the wrong people or give the wrong people too many changes. It's sad and the children seem to be the only ones paying.

    • @darleneww3670
      @darleneww3670 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not once did you say your father put hands on you or your siblings - Your parents marital relationship is separate from your relationship with either parent. Parents divorce each other, not the children in the manner you suggest. The courts had a duty to prevent parental alienation which they did.

    In the state of MS I have heard that many good families are investigated because of what someone reports, yet, the families that NEED to be investigated are not reported - either because of the fact that no adults are actually friends with anyone in the family (like this case) or the fact that they are not 'disturbing the peace" so no one investigates. so sad.

    This isn’t the first and it won’t be the last case like this. Also now that the US has decided to take women’s rights back a hundred years, the likelihood of excess unwanted children has grown exponentially.
    This woman would have been drawing money from the government after being allowed to adopt five children. (How did that happen is the first question). Didn’t anyone check on the well-being of those little humans? What a $hit show.

    Wow, this video made me furious. The sole requirement fto ADOPT children is to be breathing. This is yet a chapter in the tragedy that is American Adoption and why the practice needs to be banned or federal laws introduced and enacted to protect these children as a *special class* requiring federal oversight until the children are 18 years old.

    Not many people are willing to raise children in their homes through Social Services, no matter what state they are in. Staffing shortages, low morale, and more children being placed in state programs. Every state I have interacted with, in my 40 years of working as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Mental Health services, has taught me to believe that most of their workers deserve a lot more respect than they get. Most everyone I have dealt with, deserve massive pay increases but, like always, no one wants to have a tax increase. My Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements have not increased in over 30 years, but I didn't get into my profession to become wealthy.

      First, you need to learn how to use punctuation. Secondly, women don’t have to be mothers to be effective at their job. DCF isn’t failing because it’s, as you say, mostly run by young women who don’t have experience being mothers. Your comment is ridiculous.
