Corian is a brand of solid surface material created by DuPont. Its primary use is as a countertop and benchtop surface, though it has many other applications. It is composed of acrylic polymer and alumina trihydrate (ATH), a material derived from bauxite ore.

Beautiful work and theme. As a former user and corporate trainer in the use of acrylics you should always protect the acrylic from any right angle as it will tend to crack with any deflection and sometimes with just thermal expansion. I saw you use wood dowels I presume for the screws. Great idea. Using a bullnose bit is better as the bottom of the hole will be round instead of the right angles.Screw threads directly in contact is also a weak point. These are only FYI if you wish to make the product perform at its strongest. I can't wait to see more wood free projects. Again great video you are an artist.

Love the ancient Greek theme and the authentic carvings, a very unique vision that was supremely well-executed. I get the desire to try to make the neck out of 100% corian, but I would love to see (and hear) a neck V2.0 with a truss rod and normal metal frets. I think a vision this beautiful deserves to be able to sound as good as it looks.

The Dan Armstrong bass had an acrylic body. I think Corian would work fantastically as a body material only, with a regular wood Fender style P-Bass or jazz neck complete with truss rod. Bolt on style or even a set neck (Gibson style) bass build. I love your bass body chambered out for weight savings. This would be incredible, embracing Corian as a valid body material.

Corian frets...that's when I knew it was an art piece! However, with the face of a neck nearly always being a 'laminate' perhaps [with the right material/composite] maybe a 'stick-on' fret board including frets could be CNC/laser cut/3D printed and just glued on [replacement being an easy process too]. You could be onto something. As for the 'artwork', yes it needs a bit of stone like distressing and marbled with black veins to get the full on stone effect.

My first guitar had built-in frets too, but the fingerboard material was plastic. A couple of months later it turned into a fretless guitar...lol. The body was made from plywood.

So amazing how you are able to bring your love of music together with saving the planet as well as making something few could conceive and yet even fewer bring to completion. Enjoy your vids. Stay safe and well. Cheers, David

FYI, if you have any corian left over it makes excellent zero clearance tablesaw inserts etc. I'm mid-way through filming a video on this now.

How cool is this build, wow. Mr. Sway would you please travel all the way to were marble carvings are made and give them your CNC bass carving program instructions so, just like this corian bass, a new entirely made out of marble bass could be born, maybe there'll be some weight issues, but like you said, just for fun, thanks...!!!

That’s flippin’ awesome, Tim! We’re just having fun here. If it every breaks you can just epoxy it back together and claim it is a restored classic.

Tim, really cool. I thought about using corian for an electric guitar body years ago, you finally did it. The only thing is when you did the neck also in corian, that’s when I thought that might not work. To boot, you cut built in frets(!!?). Except for the neck I think it’s great. A wooden neck would be more appropo. But you know that, like you said it’s “Art”. Love what you do.

yea, I've seen corian bodies and wanted to do thast (still will with the rest of the counter). But for this I wanted to push it to the limit!

Might I suggest it would be interesting to build an instrument with the neck and scale of a guitar, but with each string agitating it's own strohviolin/phonofiddle-esque apparatus, with the 6 horns forming the body of the instrument? And to complicate it further, add 6 monitoring horns on the side of the body...

You could paint a jazz bass pickup white. If you put regular frets in that it would be a functional art piece. Would have been fine. I think the buzzing is down to the frets...assuming you looked out for bridge and nut clearances. I like it.

I love the idea and I think the bass would feel awesome in your hand. I'm also convinced you should be able to get a better sound out of that thing with different settings. ..

I'm surprised that neck held up to the tension of bass strings. Figured it would have warped like hell. Corian is tough stuff.
