Did you hear him call Miyake by Yuki Ota and the Japanese as the South Koreans?
It's also probably why he's never commentated ever again for fencing and Olympic fencing.
Whilst I'm not always the biggest fan of the current fencing commentators, they at least don't botch it like this guy did.

Yeah, because of the very specific target area in foil (the torso and groin only), there are very specific rules about blocking your opponent's ability to reach the target. So ducking with your head or using your non-weapon arm to block your opponent's attack is a foul. You can see on the replay that Joppich basically parried Ota's riposte with his head and that's why he was carded and the touch was invalidated
