I put my spare quick links in the end of my bars wrapped in a bit of old inner tube to pack it out
And same on the other side with some cable ties!

Global Mountain Bike Network wrap an inner tube around your hub and tape it, and because it is close to the centre it wont add much rolling mass

I have foam in my steerer tube so mud dont gets up there, and i've also taped the inside of my tyres with ducktape, yeaa i know it sounds dumb but it keeps me from punctering and it,s an enduro bike so weight dosent matter that much 😉 and my biggest customize is my Push Elevensix rear shock dialed for me 😎👍👌

replace the cap like you normaly do to add some airpressure and put in the link.

Wrapping adhesive-backed velcro tape (the woolly side) around your cables also helps to prevent cable rub on the frame. I like the cleat bolt in the rotor tip - very cool! Thanks Doddy!

I've used grip tape on all my levers, and have gotten excellent grip. However, my thumbs now stick out of my gloves. The grip tape has worn that spot of the glove away to nothing. It works, but be ok with replacing gloves frequently.

For the racers, I have re-useable zip ties for my number plates. Just think how many single use plastic ties end up in the trash after a race. Been using the same ones for over 6 years now. I also carry a couple of them in my camelback for emergencies (a third hand when fixing a chain). They're also nice because you can re-adjust them.

  • @4c107

FINALLY the name of that elusive rubber tape! People kept calling it "heavy duty electrical tape" but the thickest I could ever find was basically just normal tape. I really need some for my downtube as the protector doesnt cover enough and Ive taken a couple big strikes to it already.

Doddy, your first video, or maybe even first two, were a bit awkward, not used to the camera, I suppose. But your maintenance videos are the best that I've come accross and they're really well presented. All that remains is for us to see you shredding some trails!

  • @andrewince8824
    @andrewince8824 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Colours are your friend. My rotor bolts are green and gold alternating. This really helps me not only keep track of the bolts I'm tweaking during servicing but also makes my bike more distinctive should some little oik try nicking it.
Also on the theme of colour, my cables are externally routed. The brake uses one colour cable tie and my gear cable uses another so I can quickly determine which I need to cut for repairs or maintenance.
A piece of cut inner tube helps with QR seatposts which use a steel on steel system, my Identiti clamp uses just such a system and that small bit of rubber really improves the action.
Grip tape makes good, attractive chainstay protection.
Actually recommend crank boots even if you use alloy cranks. First you're protecting the bike. Secondly, you're adding colour which helps make your ride distinctive.
Get one of those rubber nipples for your top cap bolt. It'll help prevent unsightly rusting as that bolt has a bad habit of holding water.
If you use push-in nylon bar ends you can store small parts such as spare links, bolts or even grease in the, capped off with tape, a plastic bag or a plug made of rolled inner tube. Concealed carry maintenance.
Enduro guards are a real benefit to suspension. They weigh nothing but can massively reduce the amount of gunk getting onto those expensive shocks. Front guard also keeps your goggles cleaner.
A number plate can help hide unsightly cabling on triple clamps.
If you run Magura brakes you can make your bike more distinctive by changing the "owl eye" caliper rings, clamps and even levers to more unique colours. This makes it much easier to identify your pride and joy should some yob try taking it.
A tube of Fruit Pastels, Wine Gums, Rolos or Polos fits perfectly in a 24mm or 29mm crank spindle. Keep it in place with a bar end.

Which suspension lube did you use here? For a RockShox fork the manual says to use the 0w-30 red rum oil for the foam rings, and some light grease for the dust wipers. What's that you're using there?

good hack for helping tune the grip of flat pedals is also grip tape. you can make them grippier by applying grip tape to any of the flat surfaces on the pedal. silva grip is best. its a metal grip tape that lasts forever. can also help keep you on a pair of pedals longer if you happen to rip pins out and the threads get damaged.

When you Tape a Missing Link to your Cables don't wrap the Tape all around. Fold the last 20mm at the half and stick the Tape to itself. Now you have a Flap to Open it.

I like to apply "windshild" silicone to my glove fingers where they contact the brakes and shifters. The windshield silicone is softer than regular RTV style. Get it at most auto parts store.
Instead of grip tape. Try hocky stick tape on levers.

If I’m using grips that are not lock-on, I pinch some lock-on collars from an old set and put them inboard of the grips to stop them moving sideways. It doesn’t stop them rotating, but at least I don’t have to keep sliding them back out again.

That trick of using one cleat bolt per rotor for spares is pretty clever. Spare master links have a habit of rusting when left exposed to the elements, though, so I'm not too fond of taping them to cables. Otherwise, ace tips!

  • @barrymckean3281

I use clear circular sticky labels of varying sizes to stop the cables rubbing on the frame. Once they are on, they are pretty much invisible, and they haven't worn through yet. I think I paid about 80p for a load of them from WH Smith a few years ago. They do the job perfectly. :)

  • @pinchflat

Instead of using electrical tape to bind cables together make a cable tie using shifter ferralls. Cut the closed end off and loop a zip tie over a cable and trough the tube and around the other cable.
Electrical tape gets soft and goes gooey in the summer heat.

NEVER shove anything into, or down the seals. There are lubes that are applied directly to the fork.
The cables move indepedently and should remain so. To stop this can damage the housing or cables, and make for pressure being put on certain areas along the cable rout. Instead, take a 1/4 inch tube, with a diameter a bit larger than a straw, and more sturdy, cut it from end to end in a spiral, then wined the now spiral tube around the cables needing collected. Putting the tape behind this then.
The cables can then move freely in the manner they are designed when turning or dropping.

Great vid! A personal tip of mine is to put a few folded cable ties inside my bottom bracket between the cranks. you never know when one might come in handy!

Should be Silent slow rebound rear fast front and really really stiff suspension .bar high and far back that is a mint bike and high spoke tension and some threadlock about 50 psi front 60 in the rear and tubeless cause I hate flats and some barons and yeah I ride Freeride and big jumps
