Had the DDJ-SB up until about a month or so ago, great controller for any new beginners. Even if you have been DJ'ing for a little while now, still a fun controller. But if you know most of your effects and what not, you will want to upgrade from the Serato Intro like TLM said to the full version of Serato DJ. I personally had fun with it, but did return it after a bit. Just ordered a Numark Ns7, getting those spinning platters (vinyl). On it's way in the mail now, can't wait to get it. Gonna start learning some scratching thanks to TLM's video's. Tried learning scratching on the SB, just didn't work out. Good review TLM!
I’ve had the SB for 3 months now (my first controller) and I’m having a the lot of fun with it, but I have an SX2 on order - more on that in a minute. I went ahead and got the full version of Serato after the 14 day trial, running Windows 7 on both my laptop and desktop using a portable hard drive for music. Zero problems so far. My unit was up to date when I got it, but if you’re having problems you might want to check the firmware level. There’s only a couple of things I would change: XLR outputs would be nice since that seems to be the standard (easily remedied with a patch cable); the mic and headphone jacks really should be in the front. BTW, the FX bank has one level control for each deck - you can activate multiple FX’s, but they’ll all be controlled by one knob. Oh, and get a Decksaver cover designed for this model - they fit perfectly. I would guess that you can access 90% or more of Serato features either through the deck or the screen, so you’re not limited in that respect. However, I can see the advantage to having direct access to them on the deck, so reason #1 for upgrading to the SX. Reason #2: I would really like to have access to the ‘Slice’ function, which isn’t available with the SB. I never thought I would have use for more than two decks, but I’ve already seen situations where a larger ‘staging area’ would really help, hence reason #3 to upgrade. I was going to advise buying more controller when you start out, but I really can’t. I like the Pioneer / Serato model, but I wouldn't have known that without the hands-on experience. So do your research, get an SB, and when you’re ready to upgrade, the controllers will have even more features than today. As djTLM says: “Peace Out”.
I am considering the SB for my smaller venues... I really don't want to transport my turntables to those smaller gigs, so I am highly considering this controller. Obviously, there are hundreds of others I can consider. so far, the SB is on the top of my list.
Thanks a lot! I planed to buy an entry level controller and this one semmed to be perfect for me (budget). I was waiting for your analyse, expecially about scratching. Continue this way, your videos are amazing!
I was learning on CDJ 900/2000N in friends studio and need something to play at home on budget. So I'm getting DDJ-SB next week. Hope those CDJs didn't spoiled me up :D.
Although I already have the big brother which is the DDJ-SX, with the full version of DJ - I found this to be great for cameo gigs and very small get togethers instead of hauling the DDJ-SX inside the flight case or my 1200s with the mixer. It is also great in size for the value to bring to practice when you go on vacation, in fact I bought this on board a cruise ship and jacked it into the ship's club mixer without messing up the resident DJ as to which he thanked and respected me for that. BTW you said in the video that you were getting a hum in your monitors and to eliminate that is to put the MIC gain all the way down when you have no MIC connected this solved the problem for me. Before the mic gain was turned down I was hearing a hissing/humming sound which sounds like TAPE HISS on yesterday's cassette tape decks without the Dolby NR on. Hope that helps you and everyone else!
@Davie otops This is not true! Check out these video's: th-cam.com/video/6dztWdsS20M/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/8j8YlKrejG8/w-d-xo.html Both were done with Serato DJ Intro. As you can see/hear. there is no latency.
+djTLMtv I know its a little late to ask, but i got a Phono Cable and could u maybe explane me why it dont work to bring the sound onto those speakers D:
djTLMtv can you do a review on Pioneer XDJ-RX please? I am an edm artist and even though that's not your style of music I'd really like to see you do an overall review of that Controller. Thank you :) Big fan by the way.
Thanks for the review. Was checking out the virtual dj and now want to try out some decent entry level controller. This may be my first if not; still doing more research.
Thank you for sharing all this game playboy! Liked and subscribed and I will be watching all of your videos before purchasing my Pioneer controller tomorrow
I know that this is an older video but figured i'd share. The hum from the unit is because the microphone volume isn't turned all the way down. I had the same problem.
The DDJ-SB is a good and quite complete entry model for its price. I'd definitely recommend this controller to anyone who just started DJing and definitely when you're not sure if you want to continue doing it. The only downside to this is that it's an entry level model; it's a fun toy but nowhere near to professional gear. If you're looking for an affordable controller with a more professional feel i'd recommend checking out some of the Reloop controllers, they are waaaaay cheaper for what you get. And if you don't give a damn about the price and you just want something that you'll never have to replace, with awesome features and an outstanding build quality: buy a DDJ-SX. I'm loving the shit out of that thing.
hey, the buzzing is because you have your power cable plugged into your laptop, unplug that and there will be no buzzing. (in case you haven't been told already)
I like the Size of the pioneer sb and the numark mixtrack pro 2 because when u have quick easy gigs u can go light, and not have to carry my heavy NS7. But not sure which one to get 😞.
Hi bro,1st of all...thanx for your awesome revieuws,u're for sure one of the best in business...(you should do more dj controllers)...you explain very well, though i'm not English spoken...I can understand all u said... Cheers bro.. ;)
Thanks for this sir :) I learned a lot of this video. Actually this is the first controller that I want to buy. But I dont have a lot of money to buy hahahaha post more videos and inspired all dj's :)
Hey Man, nice review, I got the Sb2 (very similar) a few slight upgrades but i also noticed mine has that humming buzz that you talked about when plugged into the Output section and also mine is unstable too- i also had to put more rubber underneath... must be a factory thing, my head phone jacks now also giving trouble.
Do you ever get feedback from controllers? I just got the ddj sb2, and I'm getting feedback and a beep that goes with the flashing of the cue and play buttons on the controller. I was wondering if you had any experience with this.?
Yo! good review, liked it. I was looking into buying this controller and I was wandering how this works with VDJ ( I owned a DDj Wego with VDJ pro )? is this better than than the wego? also I do get that sound from my controller, can a noise reduction cable fix the sound? thanks and keep it up brother!!
Heet Joshi Serato and Traktor are both good. It's a midi controller so there are probably custum Traktor mapping files for this unit, but I haven't looked yet. Try the DJTechTools forum
Hi, i own a DDJ-SB and im very happy with it, my only considerations are, as you said, the pitch fader is a little short and the balance of the controller isnt perfect, but i have a doubt: how can i double or cut in half my loops? is that possible? thanks!
Which audio interface are you using? I didn't want to use the sound card that comes with the controller. i wanted speaker options. please let me know when you get the chance
honestly i have used this controller before but ive used it with serato intro and with virtual dj 8 all tho i will say this in my opinion and my point of view like you said in the video that you will have to look at your screen more thats not true if you know your music you just need to know at what part of the song you start to mix... oh by the way DJ TLM I would to see a video of you mixing but with out scratching using the the Rane rotary mixer with out using the crossfader
i read that the jogwheels get stuck after anywhere between a few hours to a week and the controller has to be sent back for replacement... and even those get stuck. theres even videos on youtube showing this can anyone confirm this?
pioneer ddj wego 3 ,ddj sb or the rellop beatmix 2 can't really decide i like the beatmatching light featur on the wego and that i can controll djay for ipad with the wego also that i can mix tracks from spotify with it just kind of missing the drum pad and some features plus it's very small and kind of looks like a toy
Thank you for your video, I just have one question: Can't I map the Headphones Level and Headphone Mix (because I leave them at the normal settings), to be a gain for Deck 1, and a gain for Deck 2?
What up man?? I'm still waiting for that SR review, couz on that video that you made ''SX Vs.SR'' it looked like you didn't dig the SR but maybe that was couz you didn't mess around with it.. No, at that time I couldn't use the SR because it only worked with Serato DJ 1.5 and that wasn't available yet. So all I could do is check out the build quality and do a size comparison. I have shot a review for the SR now, but I still have to finish the edit. That's my biggest problem right now. I shot a bunch of video's, but I can't seem to find the time to get all the edits done, but I'm working on it ;)
djTLMtv No Rush...i'm defenitly gonna copp the SR..just wanna to ear your opinion on the machine first..if a pro DJ like yourself say it's good..that's enough for me... and well you keep it real...peace
flavaflavioo It is good, but it's all about personal preference with most of these controllers so it's always good to try them out if you have the chance

Can't think of a better review video than this. 👍

This is the exacly controller that i've wanted to buy and you just read my mind doing a review haha
Can you recommend a pair of speakers for the pioneer DDJ-SB? I want something that isn't going to break the bank, but is still quality????
this is my second controller and it is amazing value for what you get!
Do u know how long I been waiting on your review on the pioneer sb!!!! Thx breds
I know that this is an older video but figured i'd share. The hum from the unit is because the microphone volume isn't turned all the way down. I had the same problem.
when dj tlm effortlessly starts scratching... my life and pride as a dj went away LMAO
I also have the humming noise, but it can be reduced by turning the mic level down. Doesn't go away totally though.
Excellent review. Very informative and balanced. Thank you!

Dude that scratch near the end...teach me your ways lol.
Got this and the sb3 gold edition both my favourites
Can you make a review of the new DDJ-SB2 ? I really like your reviews very helpful and defined.
hey, the buzzing is because you have your power cable plugged into your laptop, unplug that and there will be no buzzing. (in case you haven't been told already)
I like the Size of the pioneer sb and the numark mixtrack pro 2 because when u have quick easy gigs u can go light, and not have to carry my heavy NS7. But not sure which one to get 😞.
Comparison video is coming! (SB vs Mixtrack Pro 2)
Again as I said , u the boss !!! Thx
Thx for that ***** I am leaning towards the mixtrack pro 2.
Hi bro,1st of all...thanx for your awesome revieuws,u're for sure one of the best in business...(you should do more dj controllers)...you explain very well, though i'm not English spoken...I can understand all u said... Cheers bro.. ;)
gixxerboy555 hi I need help onto how to download this on my laptop
Grabbed one of these over the summer to play with. I use Mixxx DJ instead of Serato.
the missing gain or trim knobs is no prob... just remap the two filter knobs as trims and only use the auto filter fade.
definitely getting this for my first set
Small beep from monitors, it's troubles with ground in you electrical equipment or laptop.
Thanks for this sir :) I learned a lot of this video. Actually this is the first controller that I want to buy. But I dont have a lot of money to buy hahahaha post more videos and inspired all dj's :)
Just went to order mine today... I used to be on turntables before, I hope I can get used to the controller.
I use this with Traktor Pro, love it.
SB2 added in trim, they must have paid attention!
+djTLMtv this biping is cuz you have pluged pc and ddj-sb to the amplifier.
Do you ever get feedback from controllers? I just got the ddj sb2, and I'm getting feedback and a beep that goes with the flashing of the cue and play buttons on the controller. I was wondering if you had any experience with this.?
Thank you, very helpful!
Pioneer DDJ-SB or Numark Mixtrack Pro 3? Looking to purchase my first controller but not sure on which one to purchase
Ddj sb 2
Oliver Connett The SB is my favorite, it's so good for home practice and very practical for travelling to small parties or shows as well
Great review!! The only question left is - does it still feel like your mixing on pioneer gear? With the platter movement and pitch faders ?
trying to get my feet wet in the DJ game and I will purchase this to start. thanks for the vid!
Heeeey guys... Im stuck between the new Mixtrack pro 3 or the DDj-SB which one do you think is a better buy? Cheers
Ddj sb 2
Sometimes in the middle of mixing the headphone volume is just suddenly decrease and i barely can hear the music. Is this a common issue?
please is there any means i could use the ddj-sb with four decks either on virtual dj or serato dj. i really do enjoy mixing on 4 decks. thanks.
Female DJ Frizzie I don't think so
Yo! good review, liked it.
I was looking into buying this controller and I was wandering how this works with VDJ ( I owned a DDj Wego with VDJ pro )? is this better than than the wego? also I do get that sound from my controller, can a noise reduction cable fix the sound? thanks and keep it up brother!!
Do you think that buying the full version would be worth it? If i were to just use this controller?
I had a question, i want to buy this but before i do will this work on traktor pro 2 software on my laptop? Or the serato software is the best?
Heet Joshi Serato and Traktor are both good. It's a midi controller so there are probably custum Traktor mapping files for this unit, but I haven't looked yet.
Try the DJTechTools forum
Ok man thanks alot!
It will work on both
So to dj , you just need a controller like this one and a pc ?
Yes, you can get started with the SB and a computer (and the free software)
+djTLMtv ok thanks :)
would this be your first choice in the entry level controller arena?
Great video!
thank you so, much for your tutorial! great Job!
great controller but is there anyway to get the headphone volume louder?
Great review, thanks a lot

Hey men... this is what im looking for, i'm new to djing and all these stuff...
What app do you use? to make the music?

If your desktop does not have a disc input, can we still get serato DJ Intro for free. Like on their website or something?
Yes ddj serato dj intro is free to download without buying a controller
Crab Reaper Yup, get it from the Serato website
Can i use this with virtual dj? Or do i have to buy serato software in order to use the controller? Plz reply
pioneer ddj wego 3 ,ddj sb or the rellop beatmix 2 can't really decide i like the beatmatching light featur on the wego and that i can controll djay for ipad with the wego also that i can mix tracks from spotify with it just kind of missing the drum pad and some features plus it's very small and kind of looks like a toy
Thank you for your video, I just have one question: Can't I map the Headphones Level and Headphone Mix (because I leave them at the normal settings), to be a gain for Deck 1, and a gain for Deck 2?
The SB2 is coming soon
Dude this guy is like, scratching the shit out no fucking problem!!! You da man
TLM baby! If you don't know, now you know

I see that many ppls have problem with stuck jog wheel. Do you know anything about that?
My exact question. Thumbs up.

I am in big doubt about this controler, by specification it is one of the best on market in his prize class,I like it a lot. Dont know what to do.

Would've taken it in a heartbeat if it wasn't for such a deal breaker flaw. I've read about a workaround by using grease, but for me relying on that would be too risky as returns would cost me a lot of S&H and Tax.
My original first choice as a beginner was the Numark Mixtrack Pro 2, which I'm much more comfortable with as I've used it's predecessor.
is this good for the person starting dj as his career
I wonder is this controller compatible with Korg Kaossilator Pro?
can this work on a desktop computer? my friend says the dj controllers dont work on desktops only laptops but they the same shit so i need confirmation cuz i really wanna buy this.
I'm using a desktop computer (Mac pro) in this review.
It works on any computer that meets the minimum specifications.
thanks man cuz its either i get the 2 n 1 laptops or this. i do miss practicing mixing with my friends and i love serato so your review got me sold on getting this at bestbuy. imma price match this so i get it cheaper.

djTLMtv does serato dj run with an amd processor???
can you tell me what kind of interface and how to concted from to... thanks
i got this controller in blue :)
WHATS THE MUSIC YOUR USING
WHILE DEMONSTRATING THE SB?
so.. if i get the full version what?

Can you dj the sb in the club because im gonna dj with. It on agust 16
Zhavier Jwan You answered your own question ;) You can DJ with anything you feel comfortable with. You won't have the same functionality as a CDJ2000/DJM900 DJ set (or a more advanced controller) because the SB is an entry level controller, but it can get the job done. Are you using the full version of Serato DJ?
The hum happens because it does not have balanced out puts.
Only with serato works?
